We were please to join an Uptown Walking Tour that started at the Charleston Visitors Center provided by BullDog Tours. The weather was lovely, and our guide, Mr. David Romein, provided our family with two hours of interesting, useful information about the city. He combined Charleston history, architecture and social dynamics while walking at a comfortable pace. He brought silent buildings to life, providing us with a description of the families who once built and lived in the structures. He included the lifestyle of the wealthy, and those enslaved people who made much of their comfortable lives possible.

We strongly recommend including a guided tour during the first days of your visit to the Charleston area. The introduction provides a useful understanding that will enrich much of what you see afterwards.

Thanks so much for the wonderful review! Your words perfectly describe that tour as well as the guide who designed it. Charleston has the largest historic district in the country, and very few visitors realize it expands out as much as it does. This tour is designed to expose more of Charleston's rich history. Thanks again for joining us on the tour!

We've done several Bulldog tours over the years, Old City Jail (very scary and amazing), Both the Ghost and Graveyard Tour and the Dungeon Tour (lots of fun) and the Dark Side of Charleston tour (very informative). This weekend we did the Haunted Pub Tour and it was AWESOME!!! Adam was a great storyteller and very well informed. His stories are all researched and historically possible. (He's not just telling you the popular stories that are made up for the public.) Bars were so friendly and complimentary snacks were great! We had a wonderful time and would recommend it to anyone who wanted to explore downtown with some great drinks and snacks while being told some wonderful ghost stories and stories of the local history.

Thanks so much for your review! We are always happy to see people return to us for a tour of our great city of Charleston. Adam is a master storyteller and has crafted a one-of-kind tour with the Haunted Pub. Thanks for sharing the feedback and for visiting with us again. We look forward to seeing you again soon!

My husband & I had a great time on the Bulldog Tours “Savor the Flavors” Walking Food Tour which took place from 10:00-12:30pm. Our guided tour was hosted by Beth who was warm, witty, personable & knowledgeable. Our 1st stop was “Another Broken Egg Cafe” where we sampled delicious Stone Ground Grits topped with Bacon,Tomatoes & Scallions and also had awesome Beignets! The 2nd stop was “The Spice & Tea Exchange” which consisted of Fine Spices, Herbs, Blends, Salts & Teas. This was a fun stop learning more history about how spices, teas, sugars, etc. became prominent in the South. Charleston Crab House was our 3rd stop where we sampled a Fried Green Tomato topped with Pimento Cheese accompanied by Dirty Rice with Andouille Sausage. There was a side of Thai Chili Sauce as well. Stop #4 was a new Chef Vivian Howard spot called “Handy & Hot” where you had your choice of Biscuits or Handpies and Lemonade, Coffee or Tea. Our 5th & final stop was the French Chocolate Cafe. This was a wonderful way to cap off the tour! Our sample selections consisted of a Chocolate Truffle & a Macaron and a beverage of an iced Cafe Mocha. Beth provided us with bits of history all along the route in a casual comfortable style. Alcoholic beverages were available for purchase at several of our stops. Our tour was $75.00 per person & I don’t think anyone could even think of having lunch after we completed this fun tour!

Took the city jail tour at 9:30pm Saturday night. Been on numerous ghost tours and this one by far was the worse! The building itself is intriguing from the outside but the guides are usually great story tellers but ours We spent close to $35.00 a piece on this tour and was not able to go through the entire jail because of covid. I understand the regulations from the city but we should have been told this up front! Being able to view just 4 rooms was not worth it.

Roam770689, Thank you so much for providing feedback on the Haunted Jail Tour. We take all comments to heart to determine what we can do better. As far as seeing the Jail with the virus, we are taking guests into the largest cells of the Jail to allow for social distancing. Rest assured, we are not showing any less than normal though. The tour is 45 minutes long which is well established when making a reservation. In that time, we spend a short amount outside discussing history, architecture, and conditions of the Jail when in use. Upon then going inside, we then spend the rest of the time showing guests four-five cells that were used in the Jail and tell stories of specific inmates and the paranormal events that take place inside. This description is the same during a pandemic or not. Thanks again for the feedback and we hope you enjoyed the rest of your time in Charleston.

We’ve done ghost tours in many cities where we have had a blast, hokey or not. They’re about having fun. We were very excited for this one in Charleston, where there is so much history. Sadly, it was a dud. I kept checking my watch to see how much longer. When your guide starts off with “I don’t believe in ghosts” you scratch your head wondering why is he doing this? He took us to the city’s “most haunted graveyard” and told us a story about a graveyard miles away. Ok, so why are we here and why is the graveyard haunted? The price for this tour was not cheap $42 per adult. Nothing scary or fun about it. The host didn’t even have a working flashlight and we all had to use our cellphones to help him see to open locks etc. Just one big snooze fest.

We are humbled by your comments. Our true intent is all for our guests' delight. We retain only the best, licensed and seasoned guides (all members of the esteemed Palmetto League), who are steeped in the Palmetto City's rich history and the ghostly denizens of her supernatural demimonde. Our VIP Tour takes guests in a wide loop through the historic (haunted) district, with visits inside the Provost Dungeon (pirates and revolutionaries) and the graveyard at the Circular Congregational Church (the oldest and, most would agree, the most haunted). Our other nightly ghost tours go to one or the other of these two venues. Because the VIP Tour goes inside both locations, it is 30 minutes longer than the other tours. Also, for that reason, it is priced a bit more. We're very sorry that you were disappointed. There appears to have been a mild conflagration, a micro version of a perfect storm, and, deep down, a failure on our part to communicate to you the vast mystery and beauty of our city. Please forgive. We encourage you to contact Randy Johnson, our Guide Manager, at randall@bulldogtours.com, to discuss ways we might redeem ourselves in your discerning eyes. Rest assured, we are following up with your guide who, by the way, regrets the fact that his flashlight malfunctioned. Perhaps it was the ghosts. Many, many thanks for letting us know.

My husband and I were expecting a lot more for the money that we paid. The jail is huge but they only take you into 3 rooms. Our tour guide seemed very rehearsed, as if he was reading from a book. The jail is currently under construction, which really takes away the scare factor! I went onto YouTube to check out some more information and had I watched any of the videos beforehand, I could have saved my money and still felt like I took the tour! I would skip this!

SANot008, We are very sorry to hear you were disappointed in Haunted Jail Tour. The tour is 45 minutes long and in that time we highlight the exterior and around four different types of cells that were used in the building while being used as a Jail. The narrative focuses not only on the history but the atrocities that took place including the stripping away of human dignity and value. We are sorry if that did not come across on the tour. Also, while the Jail is planned to undergo renovations, construction has yet to begin. Please feel free to reach out to our Tour Guide Manager, Andrew Kuhn, at andrew@bulldogtours.com to find out more about the tour and what we can do better for next time. Thanks again and we hope you enjoyed the rest of your time in Charleston!

This is an excellent tour. Andrew is fantastic! He told the stories of Magnolia Cemetery with depth and such heart, that I could actually imagine the hurts and triumphs of the souls he was talking about. I was impressed with the amount of research done to present this tour factually. I would highly recommend the 7:30 tour because you can see the beauty of the cemetery and the headstones, and dusk brings about just the right amount of shadows and eeriness. This is not super scary, but in the way Andrew relayed the stories of the deceased, I got serious chills a few times!

Bulldog makes it very easy to order your tickets on line. There is a great description of the tours that are offered. Shortly before your tour you check in at the office. Everything is very organized. Someone comes out and calls the names of the people going on each tour. Then you meet up with the guide. We picked the VIP Ghost Walk. One of the reasons we picked Bulldog was because they actually take you into the graveyard. Darian was our guide. She was great at keeping our group together as we moved around the city taking in stories at different locations. Going to the dungeon was particularly interesting since it was night and dark. It heightened the ghost stories. Our tour ended in the graveyard of a church. The ghost stories leave you with chills and a lot to think about. I was really hoping to get some orbs in my photos that evening but apparently the ghosts were not hanging out at that time.

My teenage son and I decided to take a tour of the Old Charleston Jail last night because we knew time was running out before much of it will be converted into office space. As a native Charlestonian, I am very familiar with the history of the city and really didn’t think there would be anything said that I had not already heard...I was so wrong! Randy did an outstanding job explaining the historical significance of the building itself, as well as many stories of several of its past/current “residents”. His enthusiasm was infectious, and we also enjoyed hearing about his ghost hunting experiences. It is a very creepy place, good luck to the future tenants trying to work in there! My son swears he was touched on his back and neck, and I got some interesting photos. Thank you to Bulldog Tours and to Randy for an awesome tour.

Thanks so much for your amazing review of the Haunted Jail Tour with Randy! We also appreciate when locals come on our tours, especially when they walk away learning new things about the city they call home. It is amazing how much history exists here and even for guides, we are constantly learning and discovering more and more of what Charleston has to offer. Thanks again for taking the time to comment on the experience and for visiting the Old City Jail with us!

Our walking Savor the Flavors of Charleston tour was absolutely fantastic! Everyone in our large group of 9 for a bachelorette party was absolutely thrilled with the tour and several said they plan to do it again next time they are in town. Our tour guide, Fran, was extremely knowledgeable and kept the pace of the tour pleasant while throwing in fun facts throughout. She kept everyone engaged and nothing felt forced. The food at each stop was delicious and everyone was absolutely stuffed by the end of it. I would highly recommend the Savor the Flavors tour and the Bulldog Tours company to anybody interested in the culinary and history aspects of Charleston!

Thanks so much for your review! We appreciate you sharing in the experience of the culinary tour with Fran. She is native of the city and has stories for days about the culinary traditions she grew up with. We are glad you enjoyed her as your guide, the tour, as well as the delicious food. Thanks again for visiting with us!
