Tucked beside the post office at the Four Corners of Law (Broad & Meeting St) is a one room museum.....totally free.....with loads of exhibits explaining the early history of our postal system. Easily worth a half hour to take a trip back in time.

We were delighted to have the opportunity to visit the Postal Museum located within the Post Office Building, which was built around 1896. It is the oldest continually used post office in the Carolinas. This museum is really interesting. It tells the history of the postal service in Charleston. You will see old stamps, post office memorabilia and newspaper clippings.... More

We stopped in the post office to buy stamps and the Postal Museum is right there! No cost. Just walk right in. It is only one room but crushes in a ton of history in that small space. There are plenty of displays and explanations of the importance of the mail in the growth of Charleston before, during, and after... More

This is so cool. I have lived here a long time and never knew there was a postal museum in this old post office. I had also never been inside the post office. This is like walking back in time from the time you open the main door. All of the boxes are the old style boxes. The postal museum... More

This museum was filled with lots of artifacts and reproductions that give you great insight into the importance of a functioning post office. It very well-documented the struggle during the Civil War when the change from the United States Post Office to the Confederate states of America post office occurred.

I thoroughly enjoyed walking through this small museum! They have lots of information about the first mail couriers (what they rode and wore in terms of satchels, uniforms, etc.) and have old letters, stamps, and local information about the couriers of Charleston. The vintage typewriter and desk was a nice touch. As a mail courier myself, I was charmed to... More

There is quite a bit to see in this little museum within the existing Charleston Post Office. There were canceling machines, post office boxes, clothing and other items used in the post offices of yesterday.

The postal museum is located at the corner of the South Carolina a Court House. It is not very big no bigger than a bedroom. The little room is filled with postal apparatus. Admission is free and for a reason, but would defiantly check it out.

Very nice that they kept a museum in their post office on one of the corners of 4 corners of Broad St. They had the proclamation when the south left the union ; that the Northern stamps would not be honored any more. THere were Jefferson Davis stamps and other Confederation items. There was a historical presentatin in the large... More
