I took my family out with Captain Kevin for an inshore fishing trip last week. When I booked, he had a number of questions regarding who was coming and what we were hoping to do. From that information, he was able to tailor the trip for our group that worked out perfect. Leading up to the morning we went out, Kevin did an excellent job of communicating with me regarding weather, meeting time, location, everything we needed to know and bring (only our drinks and food). Once on the boat, he was very detailed on what to expect for the day and how we could best enjoy our fishing trip. Kevin did a great job with those of us that don't fish, as well as providing some very helpful pointers for those of us that do. We had a great day, caught a lot of fish and very much enjoyed our time on the boat. Most important part for me was that my family have a good time - Captain Kevin has a great personality and we all enjoyed being on his boat. Would highly recommend and will repeat next time we are in Folly.

We had a great time with Captain Kevin and couldn’t have asked for a better time in river and harbor fishing. We caught a nice mixed bag of fish and Capt Kev was a great instructor. There were 4 of us on the boat and he was quick to bait our hooks, help us when needed and kept the convo going, joking with us and making sure we had a good time. We will absolutely come back, especially since Captain Kev told us we broke multiple state records with the size fish we caught and we have plans to chill by his fire pit.

I am truly impressed with Captain Kevin of Charleston Fish Rod Bending Co. and the hard work he puts in so we can catch fish. We (my 8 year old son and I) booked the 3 hour near shore trip. Being from Ohio and fishing rivers, i didn't really know what to expect from our first saltwater trip. From the first cast to the last, I could tell that Captain Kevin's primary goal was for my son and I to catch as many fish quality fish as possible. Kevin knows his spots and i knew we were in good hands after my son landed his first redfish (7lbs) on the 3rd or 4th cast. After that the fish seemed to be biting constantly in every spot Kevin took us to. When my son did catch fish I liked that Kevin would help him out only if really needed, which gave my son a sense of independence and pride. Kevin was working constantly so that we had multiple lines out the whole time. I could tell Kevin loves what he does and he takes it serious. The fact that he catches his own shrimp, crab and other bait impressed me. He literally wasted no time getting lines out when he was not driving the boat. My son and I had our best day fishing ever with Kevin and it was all due to his work ethic and ability to read the water and currents. We were so impressed we are planning to fish with Kevin again next year. Thanks again Captain Kevin!!

My Son booked a fishing trip for my Birthday
Not to have a cranky captain.
Our boat was booked with a working bathroom which after we left shore the captain told us it was not working.
Captain drove the boat way to fast and boat ride was the roughest we have ever been on anywhere we have been.
My wife is severely allergic to Cigarette smoke and my son asked the captain twice about quitting smoking and he kept on smoking which made my wife severely sick on the boat.
The captain needed a second to meet and help meet and bring fishing off the hook when you book a charger you expect to have a personal touch.
All he did was basically drive us out there and had a pole and hand you the bait why pay for an expensive charter or you do that yourself
We’ve taken many fishing charters in different areas and we’re very extremely happy and recommended them every time this area and there’s fishing charter was the worst we’ve ever been on for a customer experience I did not make you feel welcome and didn’t think you were appreciate your business. Thanks for your feedback. I'm sorry you had this experience. This is out of character for us. Given the half a dozen phone conversations we had prior to your trip I wish you or your son would have given me a call to discuss it. Your Captain has run over 300 Deep Sea fishing charters for us and this is the first time we received anything less than glowing reviews from his trips.
On my side I checked in with the Captain the afternoon of your charter for a recap of his day. He told me the seas where a little choppy but overall good. He shared details of the day including pictures of the fish you caught and the 15 or so that he cleaned for you to take home. He mentioned that you were a nice crew, had a good day on the water and that you caught quite a few fish. I'm sorry he wasn't aware that he wasn't meeting your needs while you were on board.
Your business is extremely important to us as is every single charter we run. Thank you for your valuable feedback.

One of my husband's bucket list items was to go deep sea fishing, so he was like a kid on Christmas morning excited with anticipation for this trip. Captain Kevin was excellent in his communication with us and answering my questions, as this would be the first time fishing at sea for my husband and our 11 year old and 14 year old sons. Captain Kevin told us he had another group he was taking out, so Captain Gifford would be our captain. My husband and sons loaded up the cooler, got situated, I took a picture, and then I asked where the life jackets were since they would be in the ocean, to which Capt. Gifford replied, "Oh, we're not going deep sea today." I could see the huge disappointment on my husband's face. He shared that the conditions were too rough, which we completely understand and value safety. But we wondered when we were going to be told that, and it would have been nice to get a text/call before we came to make us aware and give the option of rescheduling. My friend who goes deep sea fishing often said that we absolutely should've been told before we arrived. That immediately put a damper on the activity. They traveled to several spots and didn't get anything until the last couple hours, which again, is out of their control but disappointing nonetheless. My husband and boys said Capt. Gifford didn't really interact with them until near the end of the trip - he was nice, but not really talkative. It would've been a great first experience if he had engaged the boys, talked about history in the area, etc. - anything! But my husband said he only did that when my husband asked a question. The day was saved when they finally caught several fish near the end of the trip (definitely book a 6 hour trip because I've read that 4 hours might not be enough with tides), and my son caught a bonnet head shark. Cpt. Gifford cleaned the fish and we enjoyed dinner for a couple nights. Both boys said the fishing trip was the highlight of our vacation, but the customer service was lacking on the captain's part as far as communication ahead of time and on the boat so my husband would only give it a 3 out of 5. I've ready so many great reviews about Cpt. Kevin so if you book, maybe request him.

Thanks for your feedback. I completely agree with you. I will discuss your points with our Captains to be sure we are delivering on the expectation to provide up to date information to our clients within a reasonable time frame as well as engaging with the crew.
That being said Captain Gifford and I did text several times the morning of your charter between 6:00-7:00 am to let me know the forecast for the ocean had turned unfavorable from the night before. He told me a deep sea trip would not be possible. He asked me if we had a boat available Deep Sea fishing for the next day for you and your crew but unfortunately we did not. He did communicate to me that your group really wanted to go offshore so I was under the impression he had spoken with your husband (and it seems I'm incorrect) prior to leaving the dock. This is an easy fix for us but I am sorry you had this experience. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

We went on a six hour inshore charter with Captain Kevin Blair and had a fantastic time. I would say we went into the day with pretty high hopes/expectations and came away feeling they had been completely met. Despite challenging wind conditions, Kevin kept us on fish all practically all day. He dispensed a ton of great advice and empowered us to make the most of the hits that came our way.
If you’re like us and had trouble deciding between the four hour and six hour charter, I highly recommend the six hour. The six hour charter usually affords one the ability to fish both the incoming and outgoing tides, which is highly advantageous since fish are sometime more active during one tide vs the other. In our case, the most productive fishing of the day was towards the end of our trip during the outgoing tide. Had we booked the four hour charter, we would have missed that completely.
TL;DR: Caught fish, was good.

My wife and I had an absolute blast with Captain Kevin, he is very knowledgeable about the local fishery’s and water behavior! He is also just a great dude and was fun to be around for the day. His boat and gear were exceptional and we had the added bonus of catching a ton of fish with his knowledge of the fishes behavior and some spots he knew of. I could not recommend Captain Kevin enough, if you’re looking to have a fishing adventure while in town he is absolutely the man!

We booked with Captain Kevin but his partner Captain Cleve took us out for half day inshore fishing. From the first minute, we had a great time. We caught so many fish—trout, red drum and even sharks! We learned about the area and the local fish. He knew all the quiet spots for beautiful scenery and great fishing. He was very attentive and patient. I would recommend Captain Cleve as well as the Charleston Fish Rod Bending Company without hesitation! We had an awesome time! Do it, you won’t regret it!

We ventured to meet Captain Kevin Blair with our two young children (1.5yrs & 4yrs) with little expectation. We were absolutely blown away with the experience we had today! For starters, Captain Kevin is a down to earth guy who is great company and very respectful, knowledgeable and went above and beyond anything I could’ve imagined by the way he interacted with our children - particularly our 4yr old son. The Captain allowed him to feel as though he was fishing independently while maintaining control of the situation and not loosing any rods! Captain put us right on the fish and we got lucky with some very active fishing. The boat ride to and from our little fishing spot was challenging for our little ones and Captain Blair did his best to smooth the ride. We will definitely be back soon and recommend to any one looking for a great experience!

Yesterday, Captain Kevin took our party out to the near shore reef off Isle of Palms for a half day of fishing. When we got to the dock, Captain K. had already collected the shrimp bait we would need. His boat got us out to the reef quickly and comfortably. He moved us a couple of times until he got us over a mess of feeding black drum and redfish. We were really pulling in the big fish and quickly got enough for our dining needs. We caught and released drum and redfish till we were worn out. Captain K. did an excellent job of keeping our lines baited and in the water, coaching use to bring in the fish, and getting them out of the water. It was a beautiful day on the water. We could not have been happier and look forward to booking him again next year.
