Based on the recommendation of a friend, we contacted Martine Dulles for a historic (2 hour) tour of downtown Charleston. She gave us a superb tour, packed with history, current and past society and geography. Our family's group consisted of me, my husband and 3 young adult offspring. Everyone remained engaged and complemented her style, fund of knowledge and presentation. Her prices are reasonable and her knowledge impressive. I highly recommend booking a private tour with Martine.

Martine walked with my husband and myself for nearly 2 1/2 hours, teaching, sharing and showing us the gorgeous architecture in Charleston. She has a wealth of knowledge, and an exuberant way of telling history along with details you can't find in a book.( like the details on an iron gate outside a building ) She loves her city, and it's obvious! I highly recommend this private tour as you will gain insight and a deep understanding of Charleston. Thank you, Martine:)...Laura and Marty B.

A wonderful trip back in time strolling through the streets of Charleston, Martine is a very knowledgeable and she provides a very personal touch to her tours rather than a scripted tour. We have visited Charleston several times before but Martine provided so many tips and recommendations on places to visit as well as local restaurants. She was a pleasure to spend the morning with walking and learning about Charleston and we look forward to bringing our children on a tour with Martine. She is funny, insightful and truly enjoys her work.

It's hard to imagine a more enjoyable and intellectually gifted tour guide than Martine P. Dulles. It's not for nothing that a well-informed curator at the Historic Charleston Foundation recommends her above all others in a town with zillions of guides. Funny, insightful, and at times deliciously ironic, Martine is well steeped in local history and lore. Her husband's family comes from ancient Charleston stock, but as a former journalist who's lived in Paris and New York, Martine brings a refreshing worldliness to her observations on this city she clearly adores. Yet there's not an ounce of pretentiousness about her. Whatever your knowledge base, you're bound to be tickled by this savvy guide to Charleston history, art, architecture and historical gossip. Martine could easily charge twice what she does -- you'd still feel you'd gotten a steal. Michael Hodges

Wow, this tour is the best way to see and learn about Charleston! My wife and i spent 2 hours plus with Martine and, as opposed to other tours, where you are in groups and they only talk at each stop, imagime being with a friend who knows the city inside and out and just walking and talking the entire time. Her knowledge is amazing and you will learn so much spending time with her. Great tour, great guide, great overall! Highly recommed it as only way to go unless you want to do the big group thing and miss out on this very personal experience!
