    Best History Lesson
The whole experience was so enjoyable. Loved that the lead rider gave such excellent history on Middleton via the walkie/talkies on each horse's saddle. The horses were so very nice. No rushing... just enjoying the scenery, nature & listening to the history lesson. Great 1 hour ride!!

Who knew herons eat baby alligators.
This is a scenic trail ride through Middleton Plantation. Our guide, Rebecca, placed a walkie-talkie on each rider's saddle and proceeded to provide details about things on the trail. The convenience of easily hearing her meant we didn't miss anything. Her dialogue included not just the natural surroundings but things of historical significance about the plantation over the past 300 years. My granddaughters especially enjoyed the way they were introduced to their horses before we began our ride. Rebecca and Sofie personified these well cared for mounts. The horses proved true to their descriptions. We had fun and learned more than I expected.

A wonderful riding experience and incredibly knowledgeable guides! Highly recommend if you are in the Charleston area. Book early as slots fill up quickly. Kids and adults alike would love the experience riding through the woods and plantation area while learning all kinds of history!

    Haley’s Middleton Trail Rde Rocks!
Wonderful day for a trail ride! Haley our guide mixed the perfect blend of horses, history and nature. The trail was well maintained and gorgeous. We rode through forest and rice fields filled with wildlife. Shout out to the horses Suzi and Bear for a safe and fun ride.

    Great horseback riding experience
We spent an hour at the Middleton Place Equestrian Center. It was a breeze to check in and find a helmet. There wasn’t a lengthy checklist of do’s and don’ts which was awesome. Our guide Kirstin was fantastic and energetic, let us get on our horses and took us out on the trail in no time. Had a wonderful ride at a leisurely pace. During the ride we got some information and history about the property. All in all it was a great way to spend some time with horses, would recommend it to anyone.

    Happy trails to you.....
Great day with friends. None of us had experience at horseback riding. The staff was extremely professional, but friendly and helpful. They even stayed in contact with us by wocky talky and verbally, asking if we were okay or if we needed help. The horses are gentle so that even the most intimidated person could ride with ease. The head tour guide was entertaining and knowledgeable of Middleton Estates. Highly recommended this excursion during your stay in Charleston.

    HISTORY & HELMETS
I have gone on a lot of trail rides in various states, and this was by far my favorite! I typically do not care much about historical information but our tour guide was very informative and made it very interesting. Highly recommend. And yes you do have to wear a helmet, however they are very nice helmets. Not bicycle helmets, actual professional horse helmets. Far more comfortable and breathable.

    10 stars!
One of the most beautiful experiences in Charleston is the grounds on Middleton Place. The history as well as the amazing landscape made this tour so memorable. We saw so much wildlife along the way. Sophia’s love for the horses was undeniable and their personalities were so unique. I will say definitely wear plenty of bug spray if you go on the 4 pm ride. Highly recommend this excursion.

My daughter and I had a most enjoyable trail ride led by Rebecca. She had two other novices on the ride. She was so good with us and the horses that everyone's jitters were calmed. She explained each of the horses' personality and what to expect and how to handle each of them. There was just one horse that liked to be a little uncooperative and my daughter rode him. It went fine and added a little more excitement to the ride. We saw quite a few alligators sunning themselves at the edge of the pond. Rebecca shared a lot of history of the plantation, information on the current use of the equestrian center, and about the wildlife seen. Everything is well taken care of for novice riders.

Rebecca was awesome -- so much information shared about the history of Middleton, and she pointed out animals (alligators, herons, turtles, snakes, bald eagle) and seeing that wildlife was a great part of the ride. She was very helpful with tips on how to ride more comfortably and what helps the horse going up hill and down hill. The horses are very well taken care of. Really had an enjoyable morning!

I had been wanting to do the horseback riding out at Middletown for over 3 years. Finally got a friend to go with me and we picked a perfect morning! Slightly overcast during the 10am ride in May was perfect. The instructors were very personable, clear and well informed. Loved the knowledge of the plantation! Our horses were beautiful and well trained. My ONLY recommendation would to allow guests to take a quick moment to snag a few photo ops on the grounds during the rides. I have already shared my experience with social media and my friends are buzzing me to go back and take them. Will definitely be visiting again!

This was an amazing way to tour a part of Middleton Plantation that we had never seen before. Our guide was calm, always giving good instruction for those less experienced riders and those who hadn't ridden for a long time, which was our entire group. We had asked to reschedule once due to the weather forecast, and everyone was really easy to work with from our initial booking through the ride! Definitely recommend this!!

The staff were great! The horses were great! The trail wasn't too taxing, I only wish I could have ridden longer. The history of the plantation was also a great treat. They had receivers on all of the saddles where the guides could narrate as we rode and that was so nice. We could hear all she said without her having to yell or turn around to address the group.

Seabrook Island Equestrian Center recommended Middleton Place (they were booked out) and we are glad that we went! Guides were informative, friendly, attentive. The trail is scenic and mostly shaded. We saw different kinds of birds, baby alligators and learned about the history of the area. Us parents and our 12 and 8 year old daughters enjoyed the ride! Horses looked well-cared for.

Middleton Place advertised that this is a place for beginning riders. I would consider my children and I beginning riders because we had only ridden twice before. We arrived on time and were put on our horses. One of the guides gave us basic instructions on how to control the horse. The guide noticed that the saddle they put me on was leaning to the right. She tried to fix it while I was on the horse. My horses name was Ernie. We started the ride and my horse, Ernie, wanted to pull forward the whole time into my son's horse in front of us. Twice during the ride I was told to adjust myself on the saddle--which was pretty impossible because the saddle was put on wrong. The horse tried to buck me off along the way. I was terrified but I was able to get him back on track. Then a little further along the horse, Ernie, threw me off of him. I landed on my left side on my back and leg. I was in instant pain and couldn't believe what happened. The guide called a cart to come get me and return me to the starting place. I was given ibuprofen and an ice pack. I was told that the center would call me the next day to check on me and no one ever called. I ended up with bruises down my leg and along my back side. This place cared very little because I could have ended up with serious injuries. I would reconsider before they put you or your children on Ernie.

Hello Alij796. Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We're sorry to hear you were less than satisfied with your recent trail ride. We strive to ensure that every one of our horses is well maintained and well trained so that every customer enjoys a safe ride on a well behaved horse. Our guides also all undergo training to be able to assist all of our customers. We offer all riders safety vests which inflate if the rider leaves the saddle and can assist in preventing any injuries. We believe there is some confusion as to what occurred and be assured that your concerns have been addressed with our guides and trainers. We did reach out to you the day after your ride and unfortunately were not able to connect. Please call at your earliest convenience if you would like to discuss further. Again, thanks for taking the time to write and assist us in maintaining the high quality standards that we have been known for years.

Everything about this horseback riding experience was enjoyable. Our horses were easy to handle and we had plenty of time before and after the ride to interact with the horses in their stalls. The trail ride through the property was scenic and had beautiful water views plus the guide discussed the history of the property which was interesting.

My daughter and I took the trail ride and found it very enjoyable. Lisa and Rebecca were our guides and they did a wonderful job. There were some walkie-talkies that we had so that we could listen to Rebecca give history of the area. My daughter is 8 years old though so for her, the ride itself was the thing. She does riding back at home so this was perfect for her; plus she was able to care for the horse afterwards. I hadn't ridden since my teen years but I still felt comfortable on my horse, mostly. :-)

The trail we went on was beautiful. There were some ponds/lakes/waterways that we passed in addition to a fair amount of time under the trees in the shade. Much nicer than the dirt trail in the sun that I was expecting.

I would definitely do this again.
