About
Theatre 99 is Charleston's Home for Improv Comedy. It is not a comedy club as Trip Advisor has listed it as. It is a 130 seat theatre, not a club with tables. We specialize in improvisational comedy which is unscripted theatre. It makes for a very funny night. We just don't want users of Trip Advisor to come expecting stand up comics telling jokes on a microphone. Theatre 99 does host stand up comedy shows periodically, but our main focus is improv comedy on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights at 8:00 p.m. Thank you for supporting live performance!

My partner and I attended an improv show at Theatre99. I was a little hesitant at first because I usually enjoy stand-up over improv. But it was such a good show! I've seen improv in many cities and I honestly, thoroughly enjoyed Theatre99's improv show. It was my partner's first time seeing improv and he loved it! We would absolutely, definitely go back! Highly recommend. It was a great evening activity to wind down after a day of sightseeing and history.

As an out-of-town visitor my wife and I were nervous about visiting a local theatre company. Theatre 99 did not disappoint! Their improv group is very talented and had us laughing out loud. They did a great job of balancing the more raunchy audience suggestions with wholesome humor. We would definitely recommend visiting!

We are visiting Charleston and tonight we chose to attend the improv of the Twilight Zone at Theatre 99. It was hysterically funny as the improv group used topics suggested from the audience. It was so good to go and hear something funny without foul language. Loved it!!

Big laughs and a great room for Improv. Would highly recommend for a date night or night out with friends. Staff were super nice and made it so everyone could enjoy their time! The owners talked to my friends and I after the show and really made us feel at home. Will be back soon!

If your looking for some fun and laughter - look no further! My spouse and I had a great time laughing at the improv riot at Theater 99. Price is great. Older building so don’t expect luxury - but atmosphere is proper for the fun and laughs you will experience. Highly recommend as it was recommended to us!

We called the THEATRE to ask if we could come to the Improv show later that evening. Told them there were 3 of us on our 1st visit to Charleston. The girl said " yes come on down"
One hour later we arrived and the SAME girl informed us they were sold out!
She asked if I had a reservation. I said when I called you just 1 hour ago, you did not suggest a reservation!! She said the theatre only seats 120 and I should have come 30 minutes early. We walked 6 blocks in the cold for nothing.

We walked to Theatre 99 from the King Charles Best Western (about 1-1/2 blocks). The theater is above the bicycle shop and access is gained by a metal staircase at the rear of the building. The admission price couldn't be beat and has to be the cheapest thing to do in Charleston. There is a cash bar inside if you want soda or something stronger to sip on during the show. We went on a Wednesday night and the place was full.
The chairs are sweet! Very reminiscent of an old time theater, less padding and a little smaller than present day seats, but neat features like being able to feel like you are reclining a little and being able to sit back actually creates more leg room so people could get by easily without making you get up.
The show itself, the night we went, was divided into two parts with a short intermission in the middle. The first half was an improv based upon a word supplied by the audience and then some short skits. This was done by a troupe of performers. The second half was done by the two main headliners at Theatre 99. They interviewed an audience member volunteer about her job (which ended up being a really weird one) and then they made some hilarious skits out of the information.
The show was really done well and provided us with many laughs, so much so that when we got home we looked to see if there was anything similar in our area. The performers really had a great knack for coming up with material on the spot. They might have to find a bigger theater in the future!

We went out with another couple and wanted to try something different and this place was suggested, turned out to be a great suggestion! The comedy crew was hysterical and could take any phrase and make a comedy skit out of it. Small setting and a lot of fun.

We always do the weekend improv show. Such a great show always funny and never the same. Awesome beer selection. Every thing is great about this place! So much fun. The only negative is the lack of restrooms. But worth the wait. A must stop and see if in Charleston!

Since I am staying at he Seaside Inn on the Isle of Palms, is there transportation that can take me there and pick me up after the show, I am a widow so I will be coming alone. I would like to come Wednesday night the 24th.

Sorry I missed your question for 5 days. Rose, you might want to ask the Theatre 99 Venue or the management at your Seaside Inn. Uber could be an option.

Would Theater 99 be available to take two 17 year olds?

Hi there - 17 year olds are welcome. We have teenagers at our shows regularly, but we do like to leave it up to the parents as to whether or not it appropriate for their kids. Because our shows are unscripted, we never know what is going to happen. It is not in the "family friendly" category if that is a priority in your decision making. There is adult language (the f word may be said a couple of times) and innuendo. There is a bar with beer and wine. Hope this helps and please feel free reach out again if you have additional questions. Thanks!
