I was excited to take a horse and carriage tour through Charleston, but this was literally and figuratively a “middle of the road” experience. We had a gorgeous day for a mid afternoon ride. The carriage itself was comfortable, and I was glad that our ride was not full, and each party of two had their own bench on the carriage, no need to be seated on the same row with strangers. Our guide was very friendly, though I don’t think he ever introduced himself, and he had a not so clear accent that made him hard to understand. When he faced forward to steer the horse, it got worse to try to get what he was saying. Sitting on the last row of the carriage, I probably caught about 50% of his talk through the ride. The route that we were randomly given was lackluster, and I don’t feel like we even passed any of the really notable points through Charleston. It was a nice ride through residential Charleston, saw a lot of churches, but that was about it. I enjoyed the experience, but it was more just like a nice horse and carriage ride around town and less of an informative tour of important sights. So depending on what exactly you’re looking for, this may or may not be the experience for you.
