Our Business Group thoroughly enjoyed their tour guide, Matt, and his knowledge of the historical district of Downtown Charleston. His charisma was quite contagious and his high energy was appreciated ! Each tour company brings a new experience of Charleston's history. Loved it !!

Daniel and Ironside were the best tour guides. Highly recommended. So much fun and very informative. It was a little chilly on Christmas Eve in Charleston so one hour was plenty of time. We saw the best of the old city and its architecture. Thank you!

We appreciated the city-level organization of the tour companies to regulate traffic and cleanliness. Our trip with Carolina Polo and Carriage Company was a fun hour-long ride. Our guide, Jeff, is a knowledgeable local with a clear passion for the city. We got the impression that each tour will be a unique experience with personalized stories while visiting the major tourist spots.

Our tour guide TJ was a walking encyclopedia of Charleston and southern history. This made the tour so much better than just seeing this beautiful city. I would recommend this company to anyone visiting the city. It was an hour well spent!

Had a great tour with the Carolina Polo and Carriage company. Was a nice sunny beautiful day in Charleston. Our guide and driver was funny, witty and learned about Charleston. Something I'd add to my list of "to dos' while visiting.

I took the tour while visiting from NJ and it was fun and informative. Charleston is full of a lot of history and i got a snippet on this tour. After a long day of a lot of walking it was also nice to sit and just listen. I’d do this again and for another quadrant when I come back.

We chartered a private carriage instead of joining the "bus" carriage tour. Mike was our guide and Picasso was our horse. Mike was born and raised in Charleston so he had a lot of historical knowledge of the city AND it's residents, and filled us with tales of key citizens and buildings throughout the local history. He seems to personally know a lot of people who are part of the city today, along with a lot of detail related to current construction of homes along the tour which made for extra "in-depth" information. He's also been in many of the buildings we visited so there was that "extra" detail in the stories. We just loved our hour riding around and listening to him! For travelers thinking of doing this tour, we can't recommend it enough. Some tips to consider: If you're out in cold weather, they no longer provide blankets, a remnant of covid policies, so if you're not bundled up you might want to consider bringing one along. The city requires each carriage to take a different route so as not to block traffic too much, decided by a bingo type ball contraption set by a city worker as you wait to start so the driver and you will never really know the route. Also the driver pulls over occasionally to let cars pass, but Mike made sure it was always in front of an interesting place so as to allow him to educate about it while you waited for the cars to pass.

We decided to start our trip off with a tour to get the lay of the land in Charleston. It was a great decision! Richard and Ironside (guide and horse, respectively) did a fantastic job leading us through the city and giving us a nuanced and varied idea of what has happened in Charleston since its founding. There are 5 different tour routes, randomly assigned throughout the day, and I can honestly say that we would consider doing another tour to learn new tidbits about the town next time we're down. The ride starts right next to the Market downtown, so I'd definitely recommend picking up a lemonade before departing (doubly recommended if they have fresh peach lemonade!). It can be a warm ride, and having a little liquid with us was very helpful. I would say that the tour information would be most interesting to adults, but there was a wide range of ages on our tour (including children), and everyone was perfectly well-behaved, so there must have been enough to keep everyone's interest for the full 1 hour. Good company, good tour, good recommendation for anyone interested in this kind of outing.

This probably would’ve been a nicer experience if we had gotten a nicer selected area of Charleston to tour (the city makes the selection randomly by bingo balls before you ever start). Tour guide was great, nice and loud and personable, very knowledgeable, but the area we were put in just had very little history. It was primarily an architectural and real estate value tour. By the end, our horse was antsy to get back to the barn, so I feel like we kind of missed out on some of the things we were hoping to see and hear about. Seating was also a little crammed and seats were falling apart in places, but you get what you pay for, and this was more affordable than some of the other carriage rides. Overall, nice enough, but next time I’ll save the $200 and visit some of the sites on our own (most are within comfortable walking distance around town).

I was excited to take a horse and carriage tour through Charleston, but this was literally and figuratively a “middle of the road” experience. We had a gorgeous day for a mid afternoon ride. The carriage itself was comfortable, and I was glad that our ride was not full, and each party of two had their own bench on the carriage, no need to be seated on the same row with strangers. Our guide was very friendly, though I don’t think he ever introduced himself, and he had a not so clear accent that made him hard to understand. When he faced forward to steer the horse, it got worse to try to get what he was saying. Sitting on the last row of the carriage, I probably caught about 50% of his talk through the ride. The route that we were randomly given was lackluster, and I don’t feel like we even passed any of the really notable points through Charleston. It was a nice ride through residential Charleston, saw a lot of churches, but that was about it. I enjoyed the experience, but it was more just like a nice horse and carriage ride around town and less of an informative tour of important sights. So depending on what exactly you’re looking for, this may or may not be the experience for you.
