About Charleston Footprints Walking Tours
Enchanting historic Charleston comes alive on entertaining and informative walking tours with 7th-generation Charleston native Michael Trouche. Discover stunning architecture, glorious gardens, Civil and Revolutionary War sites, cobblestone streets, wrought iron gates, legendary graveyards, and the local flavor of the fabled “Holy City” that no one knows better than Michael, who grew up in the famous "South of Broad" area, and has written two popular books on Charleston, where his family has lived for more than 215 years. Michael won numerous prestigious awards as host of the acclaimed "Carolina Camera" television program for 20 years on the local Charleston CBS affiliate, and has charmed tour guests for more than 10 years with his unparalleled knowledge of South Carolina's history, culture, plants and animals, as well as colorful insights, locations and anecdotes that only a lifelong Charleston native would know. Group walking tours are 2 hours long, and begin at 108 Meeting Street.

Had a marvelous time on our tour, Lacey was an excellent guide, we loved moving from place to place which allowed the group to interact. Went back to two locations during our visit

Michael did an excellent job of bringing Charleston to life for our group. He gave us a blend of history, architecture, botany and humor. As a 7th generation Charlestonian, he has a unique perspective on the history of the town, it’s neighborhoods and it’s residents. I highly recommend Michael’s “Footprints” tour.

Our favorite Charleston activity, and a great beginning to our trip! Our family of four visited Charleston for the first time in May, 2021. Michael provided an excellent and entertaining introduction to the city. He spoke loudly enough for us all to hear him. The walking pace was such that most persons should be able to easily keep up. Michael referred to all members of our group of 20 by first names and knew the locations where we lived. He involved us all in the tour and did not dwell or give undue attention to any one person or family. He included many different points of interest - historical, literary, civic, architectural, and so on. There should be something of interest for everyone. He begins the tour at a gift shop with restrooms and ends a block away from the same location. He includes the Battery, Rainbow Row, many historical churches and buildings. We highly recommend Michael Trouche and Charleston Footprints!

Michael Trouche was an amazing guide in sharing the history of the Charleston peninsula. He is a 7th generation Charlestonian and has incredible first-hand knowledge of the area. Priceless! Locals all along the way were saying hello to him - even wished him Happy Birthday. It was not his actual birthday day. Hahaha. You can’t find a better tour guide than Michael. Thankyou!
