Wow! We were hoping for an adventure that was equal parts educational, engaging and laid back…and we were also hoping for shark teeth fossils. Our experience exceeded expectations across the board.
Our captain and guide Howie lent an expert’s eye and experience as well as a great sense of humor to our search for shark teeth fossils 10s of millions of years old, from tiny tiger shark teeth to eye-popping choppers from long-departed great whites.
We were a family group of 12 on a private tour with five kids ranging in age from 8 mos (happily along for the ride) to 14 years (budding marine paleontologist). Howie ensured that every child (not to mention parent, grandparent, aunt and uncle) learned a ton about the shark species that roamed coastal Carolina millions of years ago, and left with a truly impressive collection (125 strong!) of fossils and an appreciation for the ancient and modern ecology of the area. Especially as relates to sharks, which of course we can all agree are awesome! We also saw several pods of dolphins and came across a host of other shells and sealife, fossil and otherwise, which he readily and expertly identified to the delight of the whole cohort.
Couldn’t recommend more enthusiastically—a great experience for kids, families or anyone interested in present and prehistoric marine species, the environment, paleontology, the megalodon in Jurassic World/The Meg 😉, you name it. Just a great day and huge thanks, Howie!

If you are considering this, just do it! We had 10 people in our family ranging in age from 2 months to 45 years. In planning, it was very difficult to think of something everyone could participate in. I emailed with a plethora of questions. He answered everything in perfect detail. So after my inquisition ( my questions were very thorough , specific, and would have made a Karen blush, nit picky is an understatement) satisfied, I booked the trip.
We met the captain at the exact place and time he promised. We began the journey. He covered all the safety protocols and made the non swimming, water terrified family members feel secure. Yes, every family has a few odd balls. We boated up to the bridge. We actually got to see dolphins swimming and jumping out of the water! We then continued on to Morris island.
Where do I start to describe this untouched piece of heaven on earth? You are greeted by huge pieces of gorgeous wood. We immediately started to find a treasure trove of fossilized shark teeth. Now these weren’t ordinarily sharks teeth like we are accustomed to finding at our home in Myrtle Beach. These were big, and had beautiful striations. My sons who aren’t shark tooth hunters found big sand dollars washed along the shore. The captain came along with us and pointed out so many teeth for us. As I said these were different than the ones we we accustomed to finding.
Everywhere we looked there was amazingly stunning views. The Charleston city view, the lighthouse, the shore of the island itself just breathtaking.
After taking in and photographing all the sights, collecting all the treasure beyond our wildest wishes, and breathing in all in our island tour was complete.
All ten in my crew were so impressed, and even the ones who are not aquatic fans are still going on about how simply fantastic this trip was.
Obviously if you are reading this and you’ve made it this far in my ramblings, you need to whip out the old credit card and invest in memories that will last a lifetime!

Captain Howard (the owner of Adventure Harbor Tours) definitely made our trip to Charleston an unforgettable experience! The purpose of our trip to Charleston was to take my cancerous dog Charlie to enjoy beach run one more time. Given that most of the beaches require dogs on leash, a visit to Morris Island (which is uninhabited and only accessible by boat ) quickly got on our wish list. Unfortunately because one of my 3 dogs on this trip has small dog syndrome and couldn’t stop barking at the other well-behaved dog brought by other passengers on the boat, we decided to leave the tour so that we don’t spoil other people’s fun. For his love of dogs, Captain Howard graciously offered to make a special arrangement for us. He asked us to come back the next day and had Captain Aaron taken us (just us!) on a 3-hour trip to Morris Island. I thought the private tour was gonna cost us an arm and a leg, but he charged us regular tour price per person for two (and dogs for free). Captain Aaron was informative and friendly. In addition to the fun facts and history, he told us where to go on high tide when we got to the island. Charlie and my other two dogs were overjoyed when they realized they could run free on the island!! They ran in and out of water, played fetch on the beach, and enjoyed the rare sunshiny day. Captain Howard was absolutely right—Morris Island is truly Disney World for dogs! We had three exhausted but very happy dogs by the end of the visit. More importantly, it meant a lot to me to check running freely on beach off Charlie’s bucket list.
From a dog lover to another dog lover, I thank Captain Howard for his kindness. I highly recommend Adventure Harbor Tours. It is a tour company full of fun and heart!

Ahhh, such kind words. You started pulling on my heart strings as soon as you said the trip was for the older pup. How could I say no to that? And you are wonderful people for taking care of the animals!
Come back and see us again one day, and BRING THOSE PUPS!
Thanks so very much for the kind words!

If I could rate this company 10 stars, it wouldn't be enough. I had such a wonderful visit to Morris Island thanks to Captain Howie. His knowledge of the Charleston area and its history is very informative during the 30 min ride out to Morris Island. He makes sure everyone has a great time, never feels rushed and will take you to the best spots for shark tooth and fossil hunting. The day couldn't have been any better! Pricing is so reasonable and definitely worth it if you are looking for something fun to do while visiting Charleston with families, couples or just solo! I can't wait to visit again!!!

The Morris Island Boat Tour was wonderful! Captain Howie was very knowledgeable and shared a lot of information with us about Charleston and the harbor, as well as Morris Island. He went out of his way to make sure all of us found shark teeth, sand dollars and unique shells along the shore. The Captain even took time to stop the boat a few times so we could watch the dolphins. He went out of his way to make sure everyone enjoyed themselves and had a wonderful experience! I would definitely do it again!

My family had a great time with Captain Howie!!! He was very responsive to phone calls and text messages as we had to change the date/time because of bad weather.
The boat ride and Morris Island was great. My kids (15 & 21) had so much fun looking for shark teeth. Definitely recommend this for other families!

We could not have asked for a more perfect addition to our bachelorette weekend! Captains Howie and George were very fun yet professional and made sure that our cruise was enjoyable. They were knowledgeable of the history of Charleston and taught us fun facts as we passed by the city. We also saw a lot of dolphins which was a highlight of the trip! I absolutely recommend this as a must-do in Charleston!

We had an absolutely AMAZING time on this trip. Captain Howie got us there ahead of any other tours, so we had the first pick of the day! Howie taught us all how to find shark teeth, and everyone on the tour ended up with a dozen or so.
We also found whole sand dollars, conch shells, and much, much more.
But, aside from the shells, Howie also taught us far more about Charleston and the ocean than we ever knew. I wish we could have spent more time chatting and learning about this unique place!
Aside from group tours, they also offer romantic evening tours for the sunset. Also, dogs are welcome!

We all enjoyed our trip to Morris Island. Captain Howie kept our attention with historical Charleston facts as well as some civil war history. Once arriving on Morris Island we set off finding those triangular treasures...shark teeth. To get us started first mate Travis gave all of us clues where the treasures were. It wasn’t long and the collection began. I highly recommend this trip if you enjoy treasure hunting for shark teeth.

Curious about tipping, some sites suggest tips and are less costly, however this one doesn't (other than beer which works for me!)...do you have recommendations or do you assume it's included in overall price? Beer can certainly be arranged...

Hi,
I am interested in renting a private charter for a group of 20 for March 18th in the early afternoon / morning time period. We are celebrating two of our best friends getting engaged the day before and were hoping to bring some drinks/food/music on board. I noticed online that you can rent the Inlet Scout which holds up to ~25 people, and I thought that could work.
I just wanted some opinions on whether you think this would be a good option for a reunion of friends/family ages ~25 years of age. We're looking to have a fun time while relaxing, drinking and eating!
Thanks,
Nisha

(4 adults) Thank you

Hey there, and thanks for the inquiry...We usually open the weekend of Daylight Savings, but the mild weather has things waking up early for us. Since Spring can be windy and rough in the harbor, I'd invite you to stay in touch as the date gets a little closer, and we can watch the weather together. If we get a favorable window, of course were happy to get you out on the water. Our favorite tour is Morris Island, at 55.00 for adults. Its a 3+ hour beach walking excursion to show off Charleston Seashore. We often fid sharks teeth, sand dollars and many different shells. Yall come see us!

Hello!
This tour looks awesome. I'm super interested in the history of Charleston and Morris Island. I'll be in Charleston at the end of October and was wondering if the weather permits year round tours?
Written September 12, 2016
Hey there, Jan! Thanks for your inquiry!
So, YES, weather permitting, we will be running selected dates, (mostly weekends) in October. However, they are limited due to a couple of things, most notably coinciding with the tide and daylight hours.
You can always go to our website, click on "buy tickets" and browse our sailing schedule without committing to buy to see whats going when. That said, we hope things do line up up and we'll see you soon. Call us at 843-442-9455 or email us and we'll get you taken care of!

Technically, no. Does it happen? Yes. Is the metal detecting police going to come get you? No. Does marine patrol go out there from time to time? Yes. Have people done this in the past and not gotten in trouble? Yes. Is detecting an awesome hobby? Yes.
At your own risk, but you will probably be fine. Hope this helps.

My 81 year old mother and I are interested - how difficult is it for someone with limited mobility - wheelchair or cane and short distance walking?
Written September 24, 2015
Hey there...Sorry this taken me a bit to get back to you, I was trying to keep my house from washing away. Anyways, our Morris Island trip, I would NOT recommend to anyone limited; It's a 90m walking tour on the beach, and you do have to walk a bit to get where the good stuff washes up. All our other tours stay on the boat, and are much easier on the feet. Hope you come see us, H.
Written October 5, 2015
Hey there, I'll have to make sure that gets fixed.
In the mean time, the Morris Island tours are 55.00/30.00 for adults and kids, and the sunsets are 32.00 and 25.00 for the same. The other tours are done for the year.
You can always click on "buy tickets" and browse sailing times without actually having to buy. I hope you'll come see us!

We are staying in the historic district downtown and don't plan to rent a car. What is the best way to get to Adventure Harbor Tours' location? Taxi? Uber?
Written August 6, 2015
Hey there, and thanks for your inquiry. Yes, even though it's not a long way from the historic district to our marina, you would have to walk across some fairly busy highways, that are not what I would call "pedestrian rated". That said, yes, Uber or a taxi is definitely the best way to get to us. Unless you have a teleportation machine.
Come see us!

Hi, we have planned to be in Charleston in a few days' time, what are the times of the cruise? I see the comments on sun set cruise. Are they one and the same?
Written May 30, 2015
Hey there!
We're offering 2 different trips right now, adding more soon. 1 is a sunset cruise, W-Sun from 7-830pm, and it's bring your own cooler, alcohol permitted...
The other is the 3 hour trip out to Morris Island, more of an eco- tour. This tour moves around based on the tide, but ought to be going mid to late morning for the rest of the week. You can click on buy tickets and browse sailing times without booking. Love to have you along,
H

Wi-Fi? We're a boat tour company and there isn't any down here at all. Perhaps something is checked in our listing that shouldn't be. Sorry for the confusion.
