Unfortunately the city has allowed the park to become a place for drugged-out homeless people to congregate. Saturday during the farmers market, every bench was occupied by a passed out homeless person - in the middle of the day. Probably no longer safe to enter the park at night.

This is a nice park in the center of town. The north and west sides bordered by hotels with one a high end property. The Saturday am farmers market is good with produce, spices, jewelry and much more.
By night I would avoid other that the area closest to hotels. Witnessed the start of a fight between skateboarder and homeless person. The city needs to clean this up.

Green space on the north end of the historic district. Good place to hang out if you’re a student at the College of Charleston or are homeless. Not overly interesting place. I wouldn’t go out of my way to visit except if you want to check out the previously mentioned Farmer’s Market on Saturdays.

Large open area with lots going on and surrounded by a large open air market. Lots going on and plenty of people pursuing the various stalls or just chilling in the perfectly maintained grass area.

Sadly the city is being inhabited by homeless and transients. The park looked nice but did not look safe for a stroll.

This affords you a great opportunity to try local foods and buy locally from farmers, chefs, and artists. Get there early to score the best deals and to get a seat to have a meal (BBQ, Greek, Vietnamese, Crepes).....

I always visit the Farmers Market in Marion Square when I'm in Charleston. A variety of items are sold here by local farmers and artists. Booths have fresh local produce and many varieties of foods to be eaten on the spot or taken home and prepared. Local artists are selling everything from paintings, pictures, jewelry, coasters with Charleston scenes, pottery, mosaic glass work, and sculptures. The Farmers Market is open on Saturdays from 8am-2pm and runs April through December.

There are lots of things to do on Saturday in Marion Square. Bring quarters to park on the street or find public parking just 2 blocks up from the Square. Walk from your hotel or even ride a bike to the corner of Calhoun and King Street. Mother Emmanuel AME Church is just a few blocks away. You might consider a visit there first, then walk over and indulge in a made-to-order crepe and latte for breakfast while soaking in local art and hand-crafted jewelry, straw hats and leather goods. Sample the benne wafers and sugar-coated pecans. Test the infused olive oil, order a large Arnold Palmer (lemonaid + ice tea) then head over to the corner fountain and watch the highly entertaining break dancers. BBQ and lunch options abound if you're still hungry.
Be sure to purchase the local vegetables before heading home. Asparagus, plums, peaches, blackberries, heirloom tomatoes and cucumbers are some of my favorites. During the holidays you'll find some of the prettiest wreaths made from SC cotton or Magnolia leaves.
These artisans and farmers are about as Southern as you'll find so please support them and enjoy the grounds and fountains in this pet- friendly park. For many, a family tradition.

If you are visiting on a Saturday...VISIT the Farmers Market in Marion Square! Awesome....uniques art/artists, entertainment/music, great food vendors, farmers, EVERYTHING! And if you are fortunate enough to be in town when another event is going on, then lucky you! When nothing is scheduled at Marion Square, it is still a beautiful Green Space in the city. Always someone fun to watch in the square.

Beautifully decorated for the holidays with a huge lighted tree in the center of the park. Not much to do otherwise except walk around and people watch.

Yarddigger had the wrong location for Marion Square. The Square is 2 miles north of the Battery.
