There's no better way to see historic Charleston than from the vantage point of an Old South Carriage. Family owned and operated since 1983, Old South Carriage Company offers fully narrated hour-long tours by licensed guides wearing the Confederate uniform with the Red Sash. Come to our English-style stable at 14 Anson Street, just 2 blocks from The City Market and meet our friendly and professional staff. Reservations are not necessary as tours depart every 20 - 30 minutes throughout the day. A ramp leading to a platform makes boarding easy. Old South Carriage Company uses French Percherons and Belgian Draft horses. These sturdy employees vacation at Sugah Cain, the owner's 65-acre plantation on John's Island. For 2-3 months annually, these beautiful horses are free to run in large pastures or leisurely graze under century-old live oaks.

Tours operate daily from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 (DST) 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. (EST).

We came down for the long weekend and were told to do this carriage ride first thing. It was PHENOMENAL. We got a great view of the city, learned interesting history, and were left wanting more. Bob was a sweet sweet horse and Mackey was incredibly knowledgeable and funny. Would do this again, no doubt to explore the other zones!

This is our second time riding with Old South Carriage and it was just as good as the first. Carol and Dave were great hosts. I've listened to other carriage drivers while walking and none of them are as entertaining as Old South and Carol. The relationship the drivers have with their horses is evident! I just wish we'd brought... More

Our guide Carol Christmas was amazing. The facts about Charleston were spectacular. Our horse Jake pulled us through the streets with ease. Thanks for the brief history lesson of Charleston. The Peters

We really enjoyed this carriage tour though our friends at the back of the carriage had trouble hearing. The thing is, the whole tour is about 40 minutes so you will like it but you won't see a huge amount. I still recommend it as it is relaxed and informative.

Would heartily recommend this tour to gain an insight into this beautiful city and to get your bearings. The guide was certainly well informed and contributed to making the experience so enjoyable. Well worth the cost.

This is great way to get in the Christmas spirit and for your young children to get up close with Santa Claus. We yell Merry Christmas to all we pass on the streets; sing carols; Santa ask each child what his/her wish is and he really interacts with them the whole way. He explains how his horse, Vern, is dressed... More

We combined this tour with our Fort Sumter tour to make a great day during our first-ever visit to Charleston. The tour gives a great overview of downtown in a fairly short time and then you can walk around the town yourself afterwards with a little better bearings in your head. Our driver was very knowledgeable about the area and... More

Our family of 13 had a wonderful time touring through old Charleston. Our tour guide took us to parts of the battery we had never seen before and had some great stories to share. This a must-do activity, especially if you have never been to Charleston.

Visited Charleston for the first time yesterday. Our 5 year old begged for a carriage ride, which we didn't really want to do, but ended up caving after they said our 70lb Goldendoodle could ride with us!! Boy were we happy we did! Our driver was Carol and our horse was Jake. They were AMAZING!! Carol knew everything and was... More
