There's no better way to see historic Charleston than from the vantage point of an Old South Carriage. Family owned and operated since 1983, Old South Carriage Company offers fully narrated hour-long tours by licensed guides wearing the Confederate uniform with the Red Sash. Come to our English-style stable at 14 Anson Street, just 2 blocks from The City Market and meet our friendly and professional staff. Reservations are not necessary as tours depart every 20 - 30 minutes throughout the day. A ramp leading to a platform makes boarding easy. Old South Carriage Company uses French Percherons and Belgian Draft horses. These sturdy employees vacation at Sugah Cain, the owner's 65-acre plantation on John's Island. For 2-3 months annually, these beautiful horses are free to run in large pastures or leisurely graze under century-old live oaks.

Tours operate daily from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 (DST) 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. (EST).

My guide, Jeremy, was excellent and very entertaining. I forgot the name of our horse, but this animal was entertaining as well. He knew his route by heart and stopped at every fresh tree or bush for a snack. Our guide had patience and took the opportunity to tell us more stories about Old Charleston making it sound more true... More

We had Will and Jake as our hosts on the tour. Very informative. I have been on several carriage rides in Charleston and this one was by far the best. The price was fair and gave us a discount to go to Fort Sumter the next day.

Was looking for parking when we see the carriage pass right by us. I knew that I had to get on that. The tour guide was great funny and nice. Everything about this carriage ride was amazing from the horse to the weather. Would totally do it again and again.

Our tour guide was excellent, with good information and stories. It was a fun way to learn a bit about Charleston and see some of the area before we started doing a lot of walking. Our only complaint is that we were in a room with four people and it really was too crowded.

I thought it would just be a neat way to see the city of Charleston, but I was surprised by how much I learned. Our guide was so interesting and gave us a wonderful history lesson during the hour long ride. We saw other carriages go by throughout our stay but Old South had the most polite and accommodating staff.

Carriage ride in Charleston is a must, and the way they do it is amazing! Each driver has to go through extensive historical training. Then years of learning how to drive the carriages, while facing the riders among other things, before they can give a tour! Once on the ride, you are treated to a fascinating, hour long historical moving... More
