Being new to the lowcountry, I'd seen Gullah art in various homes and shops and read about Jonathon Green and his famous Gullah art work. We sought out the Gallery Chuma in the Charleston city market and were assisted by Zachary who was so knowledgeable and helpful. He showed us piece after piece of Gullah art and knew the stories behind them. He helped us select 3 prints by Mr. Green and John Jones for our home. They were having a wonderful sale on prints, with frames included, when we were there and we feel like we got a great deal. Makes me wish I had more wall space in our house.

While walking through Charleston City Market we spotted a stand selling reprints that were slightly larger than postcard size. My wife likes to make collages so we decided to pick some up. Very reasonably priced. Nice selection of products.

Gallery Chuma is located inside the Historic Charleston City Market. This gallery offers prints of Charleston landmarks and Gullah people. The artists featured in Gallery Chuma want to help teach and preserve the culture of Gullah people. Employees are very nice & knowledgeable.

The market at Meeting St is definitely somewhere that you want to visit. The trip to Charleston was great and the historical sites were amazing to see. We did the horse drawn carriage tour and got more insight and to me was worth the trip. The gallery was amazing and the prices were reasonable, i will go back and take my grandchildren.
