My experience with Beaufort Kayak Tours, and the owners Jim and Teri, was nothing short of perfect. I am a professional kayak guide, with over a decade of experience guiding kayak tours all over the world, so I have extremely high expectations of an outfitter. Jim and Beaufort Kayak Tours exceeded those expectations at every opportunity.

I wanted to rent a kayak for two days and explore the area around Hunting Island State Park. As an experienced paddler I didn't feel the need for a guide, but I needed a kayak with all the necessary gear and was hoping for some expert local advice. Jim went so far above and beyond what I had hoped for or expected. He met me at a convenient time and location for me, with the kayak and all the gear I needed, plus what I needed to transport the boat. Everything was of high quality and in great condition (especially considering how affordable the two day rental was). After getting me all set with the gear Jim spent the better part of an hour going over all the different places I could paddle. His expertise in the area and his passion for sharing this activity that he so clearly loves with others was inspiring to see. He pulled out multiple maps, looked up tidal charts, checked weather forecasts, showed me multiple float plans to take advantage the conditions, and in general set me up perfectly for an amazing time on the water. I was able to do some awesome kayak fishing, explore the area with comfort and confidence, and even have some remarkable interactions with dolphins and sea turtles. We were met at the boat landing at a time of our choosing to return the gear, and Teri even got some awesome pictures of us paddling in at sunset. Next time I'm planning to book a tour, not because I feel that I need a guide to be safe, but because I would love to spend some time on the water with someone as enthusiastic, passionate, and knowledgeable as Jim.

We went on a Carolina Spider Lily Tour on Hobonny Creek, which led us out to the Combahee River. A beautiful day with a multitude of spider lilies. Jim and Teri were very conscientious and knowledgeable. From instructing the novice kayakers to helping us launch our kayaks to describing the history of the area and identifying water flowers and fauna we encountered. We also saw osprey and their young (up in the nest), as well as tri-colored heron, an egret and other birds along the way.

This tour is a wonderful exploration of old rice fields and lowcountry waterways. The spider lilies only bloom for about 4 weeks, and this year (2021) they were a little late blooming because of a chilly spring.

It's designed for novice up to experienced kayakers, and Jim and Teri are always close by to answer questions or help, if help is needed. An excellent experience.

While visiting Beaufort, SC with friends for a bachelorette weekend we chose to book a kayak tour with Beaufort Kayak Tours. I don’t think anyone in our group of 5 knew what we were getting into, but it was so much more than we imagined it would be! Jim completely blew us away! From the time spent carefully walking us through instructions and safety before heading out, to listening to his incredible knowledge of the surrounding ecosystem and tides system, to him joining in on our excitement over all of the dolphins we got to see so close to us it was truly a wonderful time. By the end it felt like we had known Jim for years. I would recommend his tours over and over! I hope to make it back sometime for another round.

We had a great time kayaking with Jim and Teri from Beaufort Kayak Tours. Jim provided historical information about the region while we kayaked around Hunting Island closet to sunset. Both Teri and Jim are very accommodating and provide a top notch A-1 experience. This is our fourth trip with them and we hope to do many more, all very different.

On Sunday September 25, 2021 my family spent the afternoon on the water kayaking with Jim and Teri, owners of Beaufort Kayak Tours along with a group from Margaritaville. As a family, we make up all levels of kayaking abilities. I have been kayaking for over 10 years, my 14 year old son is new to kayaking but has been on the water, and my wife has never been before. My son and I went as tag a longs as we had our own kayaks and gear. I rented a kayak for my wife and was impressed with the kayak and gear that was provided. I am a big fan of Wilderness Series kayaks, and that is what Beaufort Kayak Torus provided for my wife to use on our trip. Jim and Teri have a great deal of kayak experience, and Teri is even a competitive kayaker. As an experienced kayaker, I was even able to learn a few new tricks from Jim and Teri that will benefit me on my trips on the water. Jim and Teri also had a great deal of knowledge on local history and the wild life in the area. One of the highlights of the tour was a dolphin that deicide to play in the water near the kayaks. The dolphin came within twenty feet of one of the kayakers from Margaritaville. My wife really enjoyed her first time kayaking, and I know that we will be tagging along with Jim and Teri in the future. I would highly recommend Beaufort Kayak Tours for all skill levels of kayakers, and anyone that just wants to learn about the history of the area.

Jim and Teri do a fantastic job with this business. They are great folks and tour guides as well. We are returning customers and highly recommend Beaufort Kayak Tours.
Last year we did the dolphin ecology tour and this year chose to do the Hunting Island Sandbar tour. Anytime you can spend on the water with them will be an investment in memories.

This was such a great way to explore the local nature here in Beaufort! Jim knew so much about the environment and the animals that he shared at the right times, giving the sounds (and beautiful silence) and the peace of nature room to sink in at exactly the right moments. Absolutely recommend this; would be fun for groups and families - I was lucky enough to be the only one on today‘s tour, which was perfect for me.

The tour was wonderful!! Tour guides were very gracious, helpful, and provided enteresting information about the area. The information was inclusive, and includes instructive information about the history, the process of growing rice (Carolina Gold), natural habitat, and specifics about land management. They provided instruction for beginning kayakers and were attentive and provided assistance for new kayakers. My family enjoyed the tour!!!

Jim and Terry were absolutely fabulous. I emailed and spoke with Terry on the phone and she was very helpful and informative in setting up our trip. When we arrived we were given an intro to the area and where we would be kayaking as well as given simple instructions on how to paddle and not flip our kayaks! They were also extremely understanding when another girl in our group got scared and helped her changer her kayak to help her feel better! During our trip Terry and Jim were both very helpful and knowledgable regarding the waters, the islands and the sea life. We saw dolphins!!! I was so excited! We really enjoyed our trip and wished it was longer! We look forward to coming back with our children! If you are in the area and want to get out and explore nature definitely book a trip here!

Me, my wife, and one other member of our “Women Camping Group” toured the Combahee with Terri snd Jim on the 160th Anniversary of Harriet Tubman’s Raid of the Plantations on the Combahee. This tour was fabulous folks! Their knowledge of the ACE (Ashepoo, Combahee and Edisto Rivers) Basin, the intricacies of tide changes, the history of the plantations, local nuisances, and attention to detail regarding water safety was outstanding!
With Jim leading the way and Terri taking care of us stragglers, this was a wonderful trip navigating through some of the prettiest “Black waterways” in the US.
This husband and wife duo are among the best in my book! They will not disappoint you!
