We were in the area and decided on a quick drive through tour since it was raining. This is an incredible cemetery, filled with history. A paper pamphlet is available to assist in locating certain areas. It is definitely worth a quick stop.

We were in Beaufort for a night on Memorial Day weekend. We didn't know about this cemetery until we drove by and saw the flags. Decided to drive through with our kids as a history lesson, and were able to read about the different wars the people had been in. Great stop in Beaufort - definitely would recommend checking it out.

My beau and I attended the Laying of the Wreaths ceremony. Awesome. I enjoyed the speakers and the strong military, veterans, and motorcycle presence. We took pictures and helped lay several wreaths in this large cemetery. A very moving afternoon.

I did not have a lot of time to visit this cemetery, and the day was cold, windy, and cloudy, but I am glad that I stopped and took a walk around. It is not a big cemetery, but it is laid out well, and there is a map of the graves in a small white box outside the office so you can visit veterans from any era that you care to. There are veterans from the Civil War, both Confederate and Union, African-American veterans, and veterans from other wars as well. There are also graves of many notable veterans here. The massive live oak trees are draped with lots of Spanish Moss, and you will find a lot of photographic opportunities no matter in which direction you walk. The day I visited, they had done 4 funerals, so you may find funerals in progress if you decide to visit. The Cemetery is on Boundary Street, the main street into downtown Beaufort, so it is easy to find. I highly recommend that if you have the time, you visit the cemetery, take time to reflect and enjoy the peace and quiet, and thank the veterans who reside there for their service.

Stopped by here to see the National Cemetery which has some very old graves. There is a paper that shows the map of the cemetery and points out historic sights.

I drove through because the it was a pretty sight with the Christmas wreaths placed in front of each tombstone. I did some research on-line and found this to have tremendous history! I neat little find and a nice way to spend some free time.

As national Cemeteries go, this one is very small. There are graves sites going back many years. A chance to stroll and honor those who served and some who made that ultimate sacrifice.

Stumbled across this while driving around Beaufort. It is a National Cemetery for Veterans. It is inspiring when you look at the headstoned laid out as they are. It also makes you really appreciate what the men and women buried there have done to protect our country.

I've been coming to this cemetery for the past 37 years. It is one of the best kept cemetery in the area. I've been here most holidays and Veterans' Day each year.

I try to visit all the national cemeteries that I come across and was glad that I was able to make a stop at the one in Beaufort. My favorite part was the memorial to the 19 black union soldiers that were found buried on Folly Beach and reinterred here in 1989. I had a hard time finding some of the monuments that were supposed to be located here. Of course, the one in the center of the cemetery stuck out, but the others weren't as obvious & not marked on the cemetery map. Fortunately, I was able to find the Fighting Fourth monument, however, I had to give up on others.

Regrettably, there is no public transportation linking southern (Hilton Head) and northern (Beaufort), county that I am aware of.
