I had just moved here in April of 2017 and one street over from there. I was looking for things to do and they were very helpful for telling me what was around. I appreciate that place being there

A small gem

Very friendly staff who love their job. The single hall had number of plaques (some repeating) about the industrial revolution that started in Pawtuck. The movie was 15 minutes and was quite interesting.

Great introduction to Pawtucket and the Blackstone Valley

We just popped in out of curiosity and spent over an hour here. Extremely friendly and informative staff, nice exhibits, and even a 15-minute movie offering an overview of the region's history. There's an art gallery and gift shop in the space, too.

Like walking back in time . . .

Anyone interested in history needs to start here! First, the staff are knowledgeable and are Blackstone Valley history junkies. I love the map on the floor because it gives you a sense of place with the Blackstone River giving life to the industrial revolution.

The history of the Blackstone River is never complete until you get a sense of the “people” who made this history. The innovators, the factory workers, the immigrants, the working children, and the people who lived in the mill villages.

This visitor center is well laid out. The short video should not be missed. The stories on the walls gives timelines which transport you back to another time and place. The beautiful part is that many of the mills and mill villages have survived and if you spend some time in the Blackstone Valley you will see the historic remnants all around you.

Kudos to all of the hard work of everyone at the Slater Mill, Visitors Center, heritage Park, and National Parks for bringing history back to life for us to understand and appreciate.

This place is worth the visit of you are looking for something to do in the area. We were interested in finding places to kayak locally. They provided maps of the local rivers with where to park and where you could put the boat in.

We stopped here to visit the Blackstone Valley National Historical Park and wanted to tour the Slater Mill. The woman manning the desk was very friendly. She called over to the Mill for us to inquire whether they were giving tours. She came to us to give us a warning that it would be extremely hot over there as the buildings were not air-conditioned. She started the movie for us and was truly interested in our travels and plans. The movie gives a good background into the importance of the area and serves as a good starting point for touring the region.

Great visitor center guide!

A must stop when visiting the historic area to view the 20 minute film on textiles and Slater. The center has tourist info on the Blackstone Valley and the Sunday summer river boat tours. There is a floor may of the Blackstone area which is very interesting. It is across the street from Slater Mill. Wonderful guide at the center who could not have been more helpful about things to do in the area.

Sweet Spot
Dec 2017
This building has a lot of little attractions. There's a small history museum, a book store, and of course info on local attractions. Right across from historic Slater Mill-- the oldest and still-operating textile mill in the country! A gem of a place with a great river view.

Start of the Industrial Revolution
Oct 2016 • Friends
A nice visitor center with very friendly staff. It’s located in an area that was the start of the industrial revolution. There are some historical buildings that you can also visit, or walk along the river that runs close by. Great place to pop in and learn about the start of manufacturing in America.
