- Ljl3544 contributionsMartha's Vineyard Fast FerryOn the whole, the ferry experience is well organized, prompt and staff are courteous. They could do with some signage upon arrival to point you in the right direction, e.g., there was no need for me to lug my luggage into the office to check in, but nobody told me that. It would help to have a pathway from parking lot to where the line forms, so that luggage and wheel chairs can roll easily - the loose stones impede can make it challenging. It would help to have hand sanitizer distributed throughout the ferry, especially at top and bottom of the handrails. My return trip had very rough seas (not the typical experience) and the captain did an excellent job navigating the swell. I only counted 5 sick bags for the entire deck which wasn't reassuring. I recommend having Dramamine available for sale like they do at gas stations.Visited July 2021Written August 9, 2021
- HighMaintenanceGalCalifornia115 contributionsVery convenient if traveling to MV from Rhode IslandSkip the traffic and get on the Fast Ferry from Rhode Island. Trip was about 90 minutes and it drops you off in the heart of Oak Bluffs. Seats are unassigned, so if you want to have a lot of choice get there early. People start queuing up about 45 minutes before boarding. Bonus: there is a full Bar on board! Nothing fancy, but a nice touch.Visited July 2021Written July 29, 2021

I strongly recommend you use this mode of transportation to visit the beautiful island of Martha’s Vineyard.Visited July 2019Traveled with familyWritten March 7, 2020

I live in Rhode Island, so hauling myself to Woods Hole, parking a distance from the ferry, and then having to take a shuttle bus to the ferry has been a pain, but one I've endured if I want to visit my cousins on the Vineyard. This was so much easier, even if it costs more money. A couple of details would improve the service: going to Vineyard Haven instead of Oak Bluffs (traffic flow issues), and availability beyond summer (I prefer to visit off-season). All in all I'm glad I opted for this ferry, It was easy to get to and park and was right on time!

Great experience. Being a native Rhode Islander I learned how much I didn't know about the history of Narragansett Bay. The ferry was great and the narrator was entertaining and informative for the whole hour and 45 minutes.

Service to Martha's Vinyard is on time and smooth. The location in Rhode Island, while it has no frills, is accessible and not prone to traffic jams. Onboard staff is courteous and professional. And the trip is short: 95 minutes.

One of the most easiest and convenient spots to catch the ferry. The parking lot is close to the dock easy access board especially from your smart phone. The parking lot has a bit of stones and gravel and not paved so if you have a rollaway luggage that’s a little inconvenient but the proximity to the dock compensates for the gravel. If you want outdoor seating you have yo arrive early. However inside seating was quite comfortable with a stocked bar and plenty of snacks for purchase. One of the smoothest rides ever and so convenient! Did I say how convenient it was lol.

When our plans to sail to the Vineyard fell through due to weather issues, we decided last minute to hop on the Fast Ferry and go anyhow. What a great decision! Coming from CT, it was certainly faster to leave from RI than to wade through Cape Cod traffic on the way to Woods Hole. The boat was spacious and comfortably air conditioned inside with plenty of seating as well as tables for work/play surfaces. Plus there was a galley for food and bevs, including alcohol. The bathrooms were also large and clean. And there were plenty of cabs waiting in Oak Bluffs when we arrived. A total win!

Our family wanted to take a quick weekend trip to Martha's Vineyard after staying in Newport, RI. We learned about the Fast Ferry, made a reservation easily online, and had great rides that left on time. We would take this ferry again.

This was our first and only ferry ride from Rhode Island to Martha's Vineyard, so we don't have anything to compare it to, but I will say it was very nice. The vessel, restrooms, staff, etc. were all excellent. We practically had the ship to ourselves because we traveled at a non-peak time. If we travel this way again, we would definitely use it again. Best advice: BOOK EARLY! We tried to get tickets about three weeks in advance of our trip and they were sold out for our arrival date, so we had to find other transportation.

The staff was helpful and friendly. The boat trip was smooth. The captain was informative and everyone wore masks. I was glad we could take this when the Fast Ferry from NY to OB was cancelled last minute. I look forward to taking this trip again in the future.

Easy to get to, well organized, comfortable ride. If you don’t need your car, this is the way to go. Parking is safe and secure. The ferry offers outdoor and indoor seating. The indoor section is air conditioned, and has seating with tables (and power outlets) available.

The ferry is clean and always on time. I wasn't happy about the $40 charge each for our electric bikes. We traveled with another couple who had touring bikes that were heavier than ours, and they only had to pay $10 each for the bikes. Why the additional surcharge on electric bikes?

Where is the drop off location in Martha's vineyard?

The ferry arrives and departs from the Oak Bluffs Harbor which is within walking distance to downtown Oak Bluffs.
Can you take your car on this ferry?

Hi Jaime, if you are planning to travel to the island for a day trip or just a few days then you would want to leave your car on the mainland. During the summer months the island can be grid lock and therefore easier to travel on public transportation or by foot. If your traveling with your family and planning for a week long vacation then I would consider your vehicle but if not the easiest way to/from Martha's Vineyard is out fast ferry service from Quonset Point, Rhode Island which avoids all the Cape Cod traffic. We offer convenient dockside parking and we are only 8 minutes from Interstate 95.

How much does a cab cost from Newport ferry terminal to Quonset ferry terminal? How long does it take?
RIFastFerry
North Kingstown2 contributions
Just an update on the above questions, try an Uber it should be much less than your regular cab. Also the ferry trip only takes 95 minutes not 2.5 hours.

Hello, I am planning a trip to Martha's Vineyard for the first time in July 2017. Staying at an Inn at Oak Bluffs. I will be driving from NH 93-S. I am unsure if I should take Fast Ferry from North Kingstown RI or MV Island Queen from Falmouth MA. I have never been, but I hear the traffic is heavy for the trip to Falmouth. Thoughts appreciated.

Hi Kelly! We are the only ferry company that truly avoids all the heavy Cape traffic. We offer convenient dockside parking for only $10/day and our new ferry "Ava Pearl" offers business-class seating & service and docks right in the heart of Oak Bluffs. Advance reservations are highly recommended as many of our trips do sell out since we only carry 150 passengers. If you have any further questions just let us know, we look forward to seeing on-board this season!
