A must do while in the Newport/Warwick/Providence area...
Aug 2021
A must to-do while in the Providence/Warwick/Newport area!

About a 20 minute drive from the main highway (138) and there isn’t much to see along the way. Nor are there many, if any, signs directing you toward the Museum. But, you will be glad once you see the beautiful park grounds. There are lots of parking spaces, both on the right side of the park (west) where you enter and further around on the other side (east) of the park. There was a moderate crowd there on a Thursday early afternoon, most of which were not visiting the museum/lighthouse, but relaxing in the park. The park contains some lovely coastline with amazing views that people were relaxing and fishing on. There are lots of large rocks along the coastline to relax on making for some great photo ops. There are a few port-a-pottys nearby the parking areas. There are a few large grassy areas before you make your way to the lighthouse and museum itself. You have to walk around to the South side of the park to enter the building. Once we entered the museum portion of the building, we were greeted by a staff member who was more than willing to tell us about the lighthouse and its history. He was very informative and friendly. You can tell he really enjoys sharing the information which was awesome. You make your way through a bunch of museum-style exhibits in each of the rooms. Some of the exhibits were interactive which made it more interesting. The lighthouse itself can only be ascended at limited times during the year….about 2-3 times per month during the peak season. So you may want to visit their website to plan ahead if you are interesting in climbing the tower. There is also a gift shop with the typical gift-shop items: magnets, post cards, books and other small trinkets. Overall we had a great time here… even though we couldn’t climb the tower, the museum was great and the views of the park were simply breathtaking…and best of all it is COMPLETELY FREE. As always though, please donate to the museum and support the gift shop if you can. (There is also a requested donation of $5 to climb the tower on available days).

Park-like grounds and a piece of history
Aug 2021
There are beautiful views of the shoreline around this scenic lighthouse. The museum provides a glimpse into the lighthouse and area history. You can relax and sit on the grass or explore the shoreline. They do have a limited schedule for climbing to the top of the lighthouse, so you may want to check that in advance. There is parking, but do to popularity of the site, it may be quite full.

Beautiful scenery with minimum amount of walking. Surrounded by water, take lots of pictures. Museum was not open due to continued Covid concerns.

We rode our bikes there from town. Beautiful views & cute artsy decor around the lighthouse. There were some trails that we wished we had explored.

Beautiful ocean
Apr 2021 • Couples
Beaver tail is set at the tip of a peninsula in Narragansett Bay. There is a lighthouse and a trail that follows the ocean’s edge. The terrain is very rocky with waves crashing over boulders. I have visited in the summer to see wonderful sunsets.

Such wonderful views from Beavertail Lighthouse! A great place to view Newport and Fort Adams from a different perspective and to enjoy the blue coastal waters.

History, mystery, and tragedy
Dec 2019
The lighthouse museum wasn't open when we were there (Nov) but the lighthouse, keepers'house, grounds and coastal views were astounding! The history was written on displays outside museum. Gave great overall historical information, origin of Beavertail Lighthouse, storms the keepers had to endure (no system to track and warn of hurricanes), the disastrous 1938 hurricane damage to that lighthouse, and the tragedy of the Whale Rock Lighthouse less than a mile off land from Beavertail being destroyed, killing the keeper whose body was never found. Beavertail Lighthouse and the rocky coast near sunset provided me with awe-inspiring photo ops. It was November and the seas were very dramatic. Recommend visiting in months open. Nov most places in area to visit were closed. The scenery is always open!

Nice even in the rain
Aug 2020
Drove through on an overcast drizzly Sunday and it is STILL beautiful. Not the most romantic appearing lights but the point it is built on has nice vegetation, colors, and vistas. It was really breezy that day and fun to walk around in. Restroom facilities are available. Apparently this is not a bad place to go fishing either.
