My least favorite part of the my visit was the actual mansion. I was completely enamored with the gardens, costal view and grounds. The trees and plants are well marked and the signage is clear. The house is beautiful, but I guess not my style. I guess it depends on your interests.

When I was a teacher I would take my students each year to view the lovely grounds as well as tour the beautiful, stately mansion. Now, that I am retired ,I continue to visit to enjoy the gardens in season and marvel at the decorations during the winter holidays. Highly recommend.

So glad the the daughter was able to understand the value of saving this wonderful estate for future generations to appreciate. The gardens and unusual trees were really special.

This place takes you back in time. It's a waterfront mansion with impeccable views and gardens overlooking beautiful Bristol Harbor and Narragansett Bay. Wintertime it's beautiful here too!

A lovely venue to relax & spend some time in a late 1800s & early 1900s summer residence. The home, belonging to the wealthy Van Winkle family, is furnished with the original furniture & family photos. The garden is a delight - the design and handiwork of Mrs Van Winkle & her elder daughter. Well worth a visit.

Wow. What a gem. Visited in early September and couldn't believe the amount of color still in the gardens.

We had visited here a number of years ago, but it was a rainy day and we were unable to experience the entire outdoor experience. This was a beautiful day and we had a great time. The house is nice to tour and there were guides there to answer any questions. The grounds are really beautiful, with perfect water views.... More

Visited the mansion, garden, arboretum on a bus trip with a group of seniors from Mount St. Mary's College in Newburgh NY. Our group consisted of 39 people so we were split in 2, one going to the gradens, the other to the mansion; reversing after 45 minutes since we were on schedule for a meal at Nordic Lodge (see...
