Wonderful displays!

Just a great time with my grandson showing him all the animals in the display. The walk on the trails during fall is beautiful!

Informative and Family-Friendly
Jul 2019
Nixon Park Nature Center is an ideal family attraction in York County, and it's not too far from the actual city. There are adult and child accommodations for visitors.

Small kid friendly museum, hiking trails, bird watching
Oct 2019 • Couples
The museum has lots of mounted animals, many full size. Includes donated collections of butterflies and rare birds. Large dinosaur murals. Park like areas and hiking trails. Also has a few live displays including a honeybee hive. There were families with children there and the kids were having fun. In the bird feeder viewing area, there were seats for adults and plenty of children's books to entertain the kids.

Great Educational Park
May 2019
We have been to Nixon Park many times. We hiked on our own and have taken guided walking tours. We have attended several educational sessions to learn about birds, plants and many different things.Inside is a mini museum which everyone should visit as well while there. It is fun just to sit and watch the birds at a viewing area.

Wonderful for the entire family

Nixon Park is perfect for any type of weather. On a nice day, explore the outside trails and enjoy the beauty of nature. There are even some paved trails for wheelchairs and strollers. If it's cold or rainy, the inside exhibits are outstanding.

This is a gem of a nature center and park off the beaten path. I was surprised and impressed by how much they have in their exhibits.

Fantastic Field Trip and Nature Center
Apr 2019 • Family
I chaperoned a field trip to Nixon Park today with my 2nd grader, his class, and 2 other classes. We had been to the park and nature center before for Reptile Week, Go York!, and hiking, but we had never experienced an elementary field trip there. It was awesome!

The trip was really well-organized. We split up into 3 groups and then rotated through the activities: hiking, a presentation on insects, and a scavenger hunt. All 3 of the activities were led by very knowledgeable park employees who had an extensive understanding of what they were presenting. We learned a lot about the signs of spring in the plants, trees, and animal habitats while we were on the hike. We had fun exploring the nature center and completing the scavenger hunt. And the kids enjoyed the insect presentation, especially trying on the bug glasses! The presenters were really good with kids and tried hard to keep their attention. They had a lot of hands-on activities to try to break up the presentation, and the hike was great for getting out that extra energy.

We ate lunch on the grass by the nature center, and that is probably the only downside I would pinpoint for the day. It was mildly chilly, and the ground was damp or muddy in some places, so kids either sat on the sidewalk to eat or sat on their jackets on the ground. This was not a huge inconvenience, and the kids didn't seem to mind, but it would've been ideal to have picnic tables or a pavilion somewhere at the park.

Overall, this was a really fantastic field trip! The kids learned a lot, it was well-organized, the staff members were friendly and comfortable with kids, and everything seemed to go really well. I would highly suggest this park for a field trip -- or just a trip with family or friends -- because there are some great hikes, the nature center is interesting, and there is a lot of wildlife to observe. It's a beautiful place, and it is all free!

Revitalizing walk by a babbling brook
Nov 2018 • Solo
I had an hour to kill in Jacobus PA and took an easy hike at Nixon Park. There are lots of trails. I took a relaxing one along the creek. Crystal water and falling leaves of gold and red, purple and brown made a beautiful sight. I've been here several times but not yet gone through the nature center. The park doesn't seem to be heavily used.
