- Luke S2 contributionsA Mixed BagI went to Kennywood with family on Sunday 10/09/2023. We already knew going in that Steel Curtain, Aero 360, and Turtle were going to be closed for the day, and we had accepted that. However, the park was scheduled to open at noon and once we entered the park at noon no rides were open in the entire park. It wasn't until around 12:30 when the rides finally opened. Speaking with locals, we came to find out that this park frequently has operational issues such as this. Black Widow, while scheduled to be open per the website, never opened at all that day. Phantom's Revenge and Swing Shot didn't open until about 2 hours after the park opened. Lines for rides were reasonable throughout the day, never going over 30 minutes for any one ride. Once the Phantom Fall Fest started, the crowds got noticeably heavier. The waits for the haunted houses were averaging 45-60 minutes even though the lines physically weren't that long. The issue was the sheer number of speedy pass people which caused the regular line to crawl. The staff was also only letting a few people in at a time with very long intervals of time between people being let into the houses. The houses themselves were actually very good. The quality of the houses was on par with Dorney Park and a step up from the houses at Hershey Park. We were only able to do 4 out of 6 houses though due to the poor operations with the lines. Overall, Kennywood is a good park. It's frustrating seeing a park that could be great and has so much potential being dragged down by shoddy operations.Hi there, thank you for sharing your thoughts about Phantom Fall Fest with us. We will be sure to share your concerns with the related departments for review. - SteveMassachusetts386 contributionsUnorganized Lost FunVisited for the first time in August. We took a theme park vacation, hitting 10 different Amusement Parks on the East coast. Kennywood was a must for its history and amazing old coasters. We arrived early and were met with a terrible parking situation, stuck in ma line of traffic to get to "1" person charging credit cards (no cash allowed) in "1" hut in the parking lot. We sat in traffic for 2 hours waiting with no signs on the road for directions on what to do. (And if there were signs, they were small and unnoticeable to out of towners) We watched traffic on the opposite side going nowhere while we crawled. We wanted free parking but ended up in paid assuming everyone had to go this way. Very unorganized in all the Parks we visited for parking. Once in the Park, due to the excessive wait for parking we decided to purchase a Speedy Pass. It looked and sounded worth it, except for one major issue that wasn't explained- Wi-Fi is non existent in the Park! Several times we had to go back to the front of the Park to log into the next ride because without Wi-Fi your dead in the water. We found this out being a party of 4 that even cell service was non existent trying to contact each other via text message. This was our only Park we had terrible cell service. Frustrating and taken advantage of on the Speedy pass put sour taste in our mouths. The Park itself was sad. Eating area's were overpriced, not cleaned, garbage overflowing and employee's we observed that really didn't care, probably because they were getting low pay. Several rides looked tired, dirty and falling apart and some were even closed including the premier Steel Curtain. The only plus giving the 3 stars was the reason we were really there was to ride the Classic Woodies. They were all great and we enjoyed them. Phantom's Revenge was also very good. It was great to finally visit this relic and check it off on our families bucket list, but it really needs better management, cell service and a new parking system. One and done for us. We hope its future get better because the classic woodies deserve better.Hello. Thank you for sharing your park experience. Allow us to apologize for the instances in which your visit fell short. We have analyzed these instances and communicated them to each related department within the park. Your feedback allows us to improve the park for future visits. If you would care to share anything else about your visit, please reach out to us via our contact form: https://www.kennywood.com/contact. - SteelCity13Austin, Texas901 contributionsWent for the Holidays LIghts and It was MagicalBeen here several times growing up and love the place but this is the first time I went for holidays lights and let me tell you it was magical. From the tallest tree in Pittsburgh to all the changes to the open rides with christmas theme to all the holiday lights everything was so pretty. They had alot of the kitty rides open, a few of the medium size rides open, and the jack rabbit was open. Definitely enough fun for a young family for the price. The price was great too if you bought tickets online prior to going. Some nights as low at 20 bucks. Lots of places to eat open, the magic show was so much fun for the kids, and the fire pit was a nice touch to warm up. Definitely going to do this every year!Hello, thank you for your visit and for your review! We are delighted to hear you and your family enjoyed your first Holiday Lights visit. - Christine H20 contributionsKennywood is looking good!Kennywood got a makeover! It has been painted, cleaned up, and some bathrooms and restaurants have been remodeled. I had a fantastic time with my family. The kids got to ride everything and the lines times weren’t too bad on a Friday. The new metal detector system was much faster entering the park, and it's nice to be allowed outside food. I am a Pittsburgher and have been going to Kennywood for a long time, and so glad to see it looking good again!Thank you for the review! We're happy to hear you enjoyed your visit and can't wait to make new memories together again soon. - Travelingaroundtheus421 contributionsPart of the Sky Rocket seat actually broke off this time! The highlight of this trip was standing in line for the Sky Rocket to have them do a test run. The train came back into the station and one of the seats was missing a quarter circle of the foam seat back!!! Seriously, at least 9" of the seat was gone. I had my family get out of line and not ride at that point. I wish I would have taken a photo as I was so surprised. I appreciate having a local park, but I just don't know what do with this park that I used to love. It is just so sad to see this park as a shell of itself. If you are from out of town, please don't waste your money on a Speedy pass for this park. Trust me you will get on everything in this park multiple times if you are there for the days. I always feel bad for the people that waste their money on that. Don't come to this park for Thomas Town as it is not worth it. Quit trying to have locals pay Cedar Point prices for admission and food prices are just crazy. Medium drink $4.99, bacon cheddar fries $11.99, funnel cake with ice cream and strawberries $11.99. Also be prepared to open five billion individual ketchup packets if you get fries. I think what most annoys me lately is the flexible school tickets costing $40. You are losing a whole upcoming generation. I have three teens that barely want to come to your park once a year because and I quote "There just isn't enough there." Two rides were taken out for grass and asphalt. Paint just isn't enough. The Spinvasion is basically the Swing Around that was there 1989-2005.Thank you for visiting and for the feedback. We would like to follow up with you directly regarding your comments. Please send us a message at kennywood.com/contact and we will be in touch. I’ve been going to Kennywood for years and typically would give it a 4-5, this visit however was different. We went yesterday, Saturday August 21, 2021, and much of the park was closed (rides and restaurants). I saw signs where they were hiring, and the rate is good, and I get that people don’t want to work right now but my issue is this, discounts should be offered on the days they are understaffed. Not being able to ride your favorite rides, or staying in line for an hour or two (then having the ride break down and being sent away, this happened to us 3 times, once after staying in line for a little over an hour for the Steel Curtain and twice after staying in line for about 20 minutes at The Whip). The worst part of the day, however, were the lines for food and drink. It was a hot day, 86, and we never waited in line less than 20 minutes (in the hot sun on hot pavement). We waited in line for 45 minutes to get dinner and drinks. The workers were sluggish, bored and tired and all those in line around me were complaining of just wanting to get a drink. Only one inside restaurant was open, which we desperately needed for reprieve from the heat, but it was packed. Also, line jumping was an issue on rides and food and drink lines. We told a ride worker that 2 kids jumped line and his response was, “Well what do you want me to do about it?”. Several customers were complaining loudly but he just ignored us.
In summary, I don’t feel it’s an exaggeration to say we waited in lines for about 5 hours of our 10 hour day (there were 3 adults and 3 children) after paying $58.99 to get in (that was my cost anyway) with about 1/8 of the park closed down and then being understaffed. Discounts should be offered to visitors on the days they are understaffed. Kennywood saves money not having to pay as many employees while the visitors suffer. I’m not sure I want to go back after this experience.

What a sad disappointment. Since the sale in 2007 to a foreign interest, the park has slipped into mediocrity (I'm being kind). From a "security" force that is disinterested in enforcing time-honored rules [such as "no line jumping"] to rides being closed, to guests being out of control, we just didn't feel comfortable taking our family there. From our little ones to the teenagers - no one felt like the park offered entertainment worth the big money it now cost for admission. Written correspondence (two letters) was disregarded.

The management at Kennywood does not care about its customers. I am tired of going to the park and having to wait in long lines for no good reason. We waited over 1 hour to ride the Steel Curtain because only one train was running. When I got to the top of the line I ask the gate keeper why. He said the other train was waiting for repair parts. This is the same coaster they claimed they had the manufacturer fix all of the problems over the winter when last year it was down more that it was running.
The Phantom's Revenge had similar problems with long lines. They created the problem by stopping customers a long way from the entry to the ride. If you did not walk fast to get to the loading platform they were running half empty cars because not everyone could get to the loading platform quick enough. Want potato patch fries? At 2pm the wait for $10 basket of fries was over 45 minutes. There is a double fry method that the "Original Hotdog Shop" used when they were in business in Oakland that can cook fries much quicker during peak periods. The recipe is also in the Joy of Cooking. In watching why there is such a long line and a wait it is because they are waiting on the fries to cook.
The cost of admission and the poor service provided by the park is not worth money they charge.
We went of June 20th a Monday, the Juneteenth national holiday.

Thank you for visiting and for the feedback. We are sorry to hear you were disappointed with your experience. We are working to have Steel Curtain’s second train back in action as soon as possible. Unfortunately, unexpected maintenance needs are sometimes inevitable. Please know we are making every effort to resolve this as soon as possible.
We also appreciate the feedback regarding the new loading process for the Phantom’s Revenge. We have just begun this program based on continued Guest feedback, and we ultimately believe this will increase ride throughput. Thank yo for your patience.
We will share your comments regarding the Potato Patch with our Food and Beverage teams for review.
Your comments will help us to improve our Guest experience, and we hope you will be able to join us again in the the future for a better visit. We would also be happy to follow up with you directly, if you email info@kennywood.com. Thank you again.

This has been by far the worst amusement Park that I’ve ever been to. I get here to find out that steel curtain is also closed once again always due to maintenance issues, I asked and employee what was going on with the roller coaster he said that he couldn’t go into details but hopefully it will be working soon so I said it’s been broken down a lot so what’s going on with her he was like yeah it’s been having problems that we can’t go into detail so that tells you that they spent all this money on a roller coaster that probably is not gonna even work properly I will not come back.this is the fourth time coming to this park within this summer & the roller coaster has been down because of maintenance. Ive been on one of the roller coasters and it ended up having maintenance problems after I got off of it. Most of the roller coasters are running with one train so the lines are long on top of that you have the employees around the food without covering their face with facemask breathing all over your food as well. then to top it off you think that this is worth $44 today no it’s not worth that price for you to charge when you’re running your park like this. This is the last time I will come to Kennywood for a very very very very long time.

Hello Demiah,
Thank you for visiting and for the feedback. We are very sorry that you feel this way. We certainly understand and share the disappointment that the Steel Curtain will be closed for maintenance for the remainder of the season. Our park teams are working closely with the ride’s manufacturer to ensure the ride returns next spring. The ride did operate all operating dates from mid-May to Labor Day this season.
Safety is always our top priority at Kennywood. As such, some rides may require periodic tune-ups throughout the day. We understand this can be frustrating, but it is always in the interest of safety. As for your experience at our Food and Beverage stands, please feel welcome to stop by Customer Service if you ever notice a situation such as this, and we will connect you with our Food and Beverage Managers. Overall, we are sorry again for the disappointment regarding your visit and hope you will be able to join us again for a better visit in the future. We will share your comments with our teams for review.

I waited 2 days to write a review. I needed time to let the experience sink in. We were at Kennywood on 7/3. We are from out of state, Orlando, Florida.
I'll start with food. The food was horrible. The saving grace was The Potato Patch fries and ice cream. The souvenir cup with 99 cent refills was a good deal as well. The lemonade was fantastic.
The restrooms. Oh, the restrooms. Absolutely filthy! I'm almost positive they are not cleaned once during park operation. PRO TIP: Go on a water ride and piss yourself.
The parking was fine. We opted to pay an additional $9.00 for perferd parking. Not much difference that we could see from the free parking.
The park overall was most definitely in need of some love and attention. Some walkways definitely need repair. Trash on or near sitting areas and tables. The tables were not clean. Most attractions were at best carnival level. The staff was friendly.
Would I pay the admission for another visit. Probably not. A guest we spoke with in the park from Pittsburgh said, "spend a day at the Pittsburgh Zoo." "We have a fantastic zoo." Next time, the zoo it is!

Disappointed. First trip this year. So insanely packed on a Thursday at opening. Huge season pass line & out the gate regular line. Got to ride 5 things. Maybe have a calendar of when the school picnics are so ppl can avoid those days. Didn’t get the 20% discount on food purchase (chicken & fries). Sauce was spoiled/rancid. No pins available yet (same story seems like every month/year). Asked guest services if we could swap 2 of our platinum cups for a kangaroo cup (which was the cup given to the cheaper passes so we’d be DOWNGRADING) because my kids loved them & was met with a disappointing “NO, but you can buy them for $35!”. I’ve always gotten season passes every year. This year they got rid of the ride & slide pass & the only other comparable option that included Kennywood & sandcastle was Platinum. (It also includes Idlewild which we never go to because it’s too far & another park all the way in Lancaster). It’s SIGNIFICANTLY more expensive but doesn’t even include the same perks as the R&S. Had I known there would be NO sandcastle buddy passes & only Kwood passes included I would’ve instead purchased 2 Kennywood & 1 sandcastle platinum. Now I have 12 buddy passes to Kennywood & none to the rest. They also used to have bring a buddy days that you could bring someone for $20. Now if you want to bring someone it’s $35! I will say they did make a lot of improvements to the park & it looks great, the kangaroo back is awesome (but it’s missing the light in the middle), but the price hike is ENORMOUS. And the workers are miserable and do nothing to make your day brighter. I rarely ever leave bad reviews but yesterday was an awful experience & at the cost they charge it leaves a bad taste in your mouth.

Park was clean and full of nostalgia for me but that's about all I can say. Many, many of the rides were not operating and the Speedy Pass was a complete waste of money and unfortunately non refundable. Lines were reasonable to begin with which we had no way of knowing before we bought the pass. The app was cumbersome to use and because many of the high thrill rides were down for the day it only saved us maybe 20 minutes on one line/ride. My kids were hot and sweaty and several of the lines had no covering or shade to protect from the blazing sun. There were very limited number of misting stations or other areas to try to cool off. The rides that were open were fun and for the most part well maintained.

I have been visiting here for 50 years so I’ve seen all the changes come about especially with a new company taking over. This visit on Friday, July 14. It was a company picnic so we didn’t have to pay to get in. We did pay the $20 for preferred parking which has absolutely skyrocketed over the past few years when it used to be around $7-$8. I feel that is a bit extreme for parking. It wasn’t too crowded so that was good being that it was a Friday. there were several rides that have been out of service judging from The reviews for a few weeks now. I don’t understand what their problem is with the new coaster. It was hyped up and talked about and it’s barely ever open. If you should have one thing open, it’s your new key feature ride that many people are coming to see and have not ridden. If you can’t keep water in the raging rapids, rip it out and put something better in. The black widow just needs to be replaced as it hasn’t run continuously in about four years. it’s really disappointing they can’t keep rides running especially when the price is now running around $70. the food like a lot of other parks Is astronomical. I’m not sure if they let you bring outside food in as they used to. We didn’t bother since it was a company picnic all we bought was the potato patch fries which are now running around $11 an order. Would I ever pay $70 to get in heck no I mean I don’t ride as much being older but even if I were 18 and rode everything it’s just too steep for what you get in return and no water park. Water park is a whole separate park down the road from here. The employees could have been friendlier, but I get it they’re just seasonal high school kids most of them. There was a disconnect. We had an hour of rain and our company picnic at an announcement to stop by guest services on your way out to get free tickets. When we stopped and inquired, they made us stand there for 15 minutes and questioned us giving us dirty looks I don’t know where the miscommunication is but you need to have your staff online with what they’re telling a company picnic and customers because no one seemed to know or did they care what was going on. After time and some haggling I scored two of my four tickets owed. I didn’t really care so just for my daughter and boyfriend, but it’s just the principle of the matter. You can definitely see a change in this place from years ago but times do change however, if they’re going to charge what they do, they need to up their customer service game big time.

I went to Kennywood with family on Sunday 10/09/2023.
It's frustrating seeing a park that could be great and has so much potential being dragged down by shoddy operations.

We love Kennywood. Thunderbolt remains our favorite ride but the Steel Curtain is really fun too- super smooth.
All of the workers we have encountered have been friendly and helpful. The park is well maintained.
If you hate lines and crowds, don't go on the weekend. If you do go, don't be surprised by lines! Always best to get there as early as you can in the morning if you have no choice but to go on a weekend.
If you are local, start following them on social media or sign up for emails to see discounts on season passes and tickets. The holidays are a great time to catch amazing deals.
We splurged on a cabana ("kabana") one day and will definitely do that again. While there are abundant, free picnic pavilions, they are off the beaten track. The cabanas are right in the center of the action thus making it a good meeting place for a group. They do provide meal delivery but you have to go to guest services to order. That should be improved. I can't think of any reason why they can't implement some technology to facilitate the transaction- even being able to call would be nice. The cabanas have electrical outlets, ceiling fans and overhead lights.

Hi Johnny, we are not offering Dining Passes at this time. Be sure to check out our Season Pass offers on our web site - several tiers now include great discounts at our food stands, including free drink refills in some cases.
