We went to see Pippin when the playhouse first opened up after 15 months shut down from COVID. The actors and actresses were very good, as was the singing and dancing. it was nice to be in a small venue where you felt close to what was happening on stage. Although it was not Broadway, it was a fun way to spend an evening at an affordable price, and our guests enjoyed the show as well. I have been especially impressed with the customer service at The Shawnee Playhouse. I had to make some changes to my tickets for one of their children's plays and the executive director and staff could not have been more helpful or gracious.

We visited Shawnee on Delaware and bought tickets in advance for the Oklahoma show. It was very nice. The theater is beautiful and it is small enough that your can see well even from the back of the theater. I would recommend it to anyone visiting the area. My only complaint was that it was freezing in the theater. Bring a jacket and wear shoes and socks!

I have been a gold member for years and enjoy every performance I have been to.
Their comedy, drama and one liners are all well done and the actors are great. Seating is good and comfortable. Actors come out and greet you at the end of the show.
Have to go.

Stay home! Go to a movie! Do anything EXCEPT go here.

Our golf game was rained out, so we thought we'd head to the theater for a comedy instead. We see a fair amount of live performing in the Poconos (theater and music and poetry) but this was dismal. This playhouse is advertised as "Broadway in the Poconos." I don't think the person who wrote that slogan has ever seen a Broadway show. My advice to Shawnee and caution to TripAdvisor users:

-Lower ticket prices. We paid $40 for two tickets and sat in broken chairs. There were candy wrappers and discarded Playbills on the floor in our row.

-Hire a staff. The ticket agent was beyond rude and the obnoxious man running the theatre looks homeless and smells like a Grateful Dead concert.

-Buy costumes that fit the people on stage. The girls looks so uncomfortable in their apparel.

We left very confused about the show (why was this even produced?) and more confused about the cast. The men didn't look or act like golfers. The women (except for one) didn't look old enough to be married. The "Executive" clearly had never stepped foot in an office or even interviewed in one. The whole experience would have been laughable if it hadn't been so expensive and so long. I hope the director wasn't paid. Terrible show.

The playhouse is just one of the area's attractions. Located along the Deleware River in the community of Shawnee on the Delaware. There is much to see and do in the area fishing, canoeing, sking, golfing, hiking, dining and shopping.
The playhouse has long history built in 1904 been restored. Not a bad seat in the house. Featuring a list of dramas, musicals and comedies.

As of last night I have seen everything being offered at this theater for the summer. There were some good shows and some really not so good shows. There was one outstanding moment, and lots of forgettable moments. I won't pay full price again, not worth it. Travel to somewhere else for a play. Some staff is rude, after the show the characters come out, but they aren't still the character. They are just people in weird clothes. My kids didn't like that- they thought they would get "Ariel's" autograph. Not "Abby's". Parking is better than it used to be. Snacks and drinks fairly priced. Bathrooms gross. Playhouse FREEZING. Like bring a down comforter with you FREEZING.

If anyone's interested in the shows:

Ring of Fire: Kids pretending to put on a play. Disappointing. Music was too loud and speakers crackling. Musicians were talented, especially the violin player. We were surprised to learn she is a local girl. Couldn't hear most of the dialogue.

Forever Plaid: Excellent show. EXCELLENT. Best of the six.

A Year with Frog and Toad: Cute but boring. All kids. Feels like I'm at summer camp. Getting out of the parking lot was a nightmare; there were dozens of kids and parents standing around in the driveway. Two little boys shouting profanities in the parking lot turned out to be in the cast! Awful!

Little Mermaid Jr: Worst show I've seen in a while, and I sat through my kids' middle school talent show.

Broadway on the Red Carpet: Second best show I saw here this summer. There were some mediocre moments and a few kids that need more experience. The standouts were really quite good. We were surprised that this wasn't on the calendar for the whole season- it should have been. More professional cast than anything else- actual grownups with experience were on stage. Great value.

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat: Good for community theater, but not for "professional". If you can get a cheap ticket, the music is great. A couple of actors were really good. Some costumes didn't seem to mesh with the rest.

I had the most wonderful experience when attending the play/musical Forever Plaid. I was thoroughly entertained for the full 1.5 hours. The performances by Matthew Fairlee, Drew Bolander, Christopher Cherin and and Jack Mustard were excellent. It is great to see local talent at its best. The second half of the performance they interacted with the audience, which was great. I totally recommend this play to anyone and everyone of all ages. Who would have known this play/musical was smack in the middle of the Pocono's at Shawnee Playhouse. I am hooked and will be attending more performances there.

Wife and I saw Mama Mia which was incredible. The cast was top notch and 100% Broadway quality. Excellent performance!! This is a nice small playhouse and you can see from every seat.

This was our third visit to the Playhouse. Very nice show with an energenic cast. It made for an enjoyable afternoon at the resort, short walk from our condo and near the Gem and Keystone Tavern.

I have just experienced a good performance of Shakespeare's Comedy of Errors at this year round theater. What I was so pleased to see was the attendance of Evergreen Charter School students at the 10 am show. It was good to be able to see that theater in the real sense with explanations from the cast to what seemed like very youth still and should continue to happen. I commend the teachers and the cast. Thanks.
