If you are a fan of August Wilson’s Century Cycle this is a must visit. It has an art exhibit, but the real attraction is the rooms, each dedicated to one of the plays in the Cycle. Each room contains objects, pictures, and information relevant to one of the plays. It is wonderful.

I went to the August Wilson Center for a learning laboratory (work event). This place is a must see for anyone interested in arts and culture who is in Pittsburgh. The site is user friendly, the gallery exhibits are generally open to the public for free. It is worth the time. The Center is near the theater district, and there are places to eat nearby.

Well worth a visit. Very low key. A respectful docent led tour that highlights the August Wilson "American Century Cycle" plays. Plus the building is gorgeous. PS: It's free.

I decided to visit the museum for my Birthday this past Saturday, March 22. I traveled from northeast Ohio with 4 adults and one child. I checked online an saw the museum closes at 6pm. After hours of driving we finally get to hectic downtown Pittsburgh, struggle to find parking, and walk all the way to the museum on to pull on LOCKED door handles! We paid 7 dollars to park for 5 minutes! The whole trip was planned around this visit and our plans were quickly derailed. I made sure to look at the website and I did not see any indication that it would not be open. Anyone looking to visit, please call and check timing! I could have saved myself the drive and emotions this musems cost me.

After wanting to go to The August Wilson Center for quite some time, I made the trip as a part of my birthday celebration.
Since the website is functioning, I didn't think there was an issue until we arrived. We found that the facility is CLOSED! While looking through the windows to investigate, it appears that no activity has been in the entire building!!!
Very disappointed that I drove 4.5 hours to go to this museum and it was closed.

Three art galleries, free to the public. Beautiful space. Powerful art that will stay with me for a long time. Everyone should experience.

A multifaceted space where you can see amazing art by local, national and international artists. Great performance venue for dance, theater and concerts. They have started a brunch series on Sundays. It is a bustling space where you may see a DJ spinning, go to an artist talk or see a great concert. If you’re visiting Pittsburgh or if you’re a resident - be sure to check to see what is happening at the August Wilson Center. A gem!

The August Wilson Theatre is beautiful and everyone there was very friendly. They have the coolest donator wall I've ever seen - it's a work of art. The seats were comfortable and the theatre was well designed.

The only down sides are that they didn't get the floors of the main floor done well. They look like they were painted and horribly sealed. They're a wreck in the areas where people walk the most. If you don't look down, it's beautiful.

Everyone there was SUPER friendly, but it was really annoying when people were being seated in your row. Almost every time someone was being seated in our row, the usher shouted REALLY LOUDLY that someone was coming in the row (leading us all to discuss whether these people were incapable of saying "excuse me" on their own or if the usher just liked to shout). It was very strange. I've been to tons of theatres from Broadway to local theatre and never had an experience quite like that when people were being seated.

The August Wilson Center (AWC), located in the Cultural District, offers free admission. to the public. The contemporary open design of the glass and stone facility is inviting. My family and I visited Tarish Pipkins' ARTivism community mural - celebrating the legacy of August Wilson. On the first floor is the BNY Mellon Gallery, where we viewed the Funky Turns 40: Black Character Revolution exhibit. We enjoyed viewing the curated collection of 60 original animation production cels and drawings of 1970s Black comic book superheroes, villains, and animated characters featured in Saturday morning cartoons. These Black cartoon characters included Fat Albert, the Harlem Globetrotters, the Jackson 5, Space Sentinels' Astrea, Superstretch and Microwoman, and the Black Vulcan. The stately granite staircase leads up stairs to the Claude Worthington Benedum Gallery, which featured Robert Hodge's experimental assemblages and hip hop themed collages. I adore contemporary lines of the facility. I plan to visit again to experience live performances in the 492-seat theater.
