My family and I went to the Byham to see A Christmas Carol. The theater is old and beautiful! It has a cozy sense to it because of its size. Our seats in Orchestra were amazing and the show was stupendous!!! The staff were all friendly and very helpful! It was a truly wonderful experience and will definitely return for other shows!

The Byham is a lovely theater with colorful murals on the walls, optimal seating and great acoustics. My husband and I enjoyed the Canadian "Tenors" concert immensely last week. The view from our seats in the 1st row center balcony were wonderful, as was the sound. There is a feeling of intimacy in the size of the theater- large enough to enhance the bold opera numbers of this extremely talented group, but small enough to feel elegant and cozy. High up on the walls in the grand lobby are beautiful, colorful murals that are well maintained and a delight to behold. Don't miss an opportunity to catch a show at this lovely Pittsburgh treasured landmark. You will want to return!

We went to see Hal Holbrook as Mark Twain. His performance was amazing.
It was our first time in this theater. The staff was very friendly and helpful.
The restrooms, although they were in the basement.
The seats were TOO SMALL and was very uncomfortable for the entire performance. I am only 5'3" and was wedged in between two other people.
It brought a new meaning to sitting cheek to cheek.

we saw the Capitol fools at the Byham on September 21. What we could clearly hear of the show was wonderful. But I started hoping they would put down the microphones and just use their voices. The microphones seem to. make the sound more difficult to hear.

If your destination to the Byham Theater involves taking in a play--by all means go and enjoy yourself--but know that parking is expensive, and to find a reasonable place for dinner can be difficult--have dinner before you go, unless you want to walk downtown and try one of the upscale restaurants. There are a lot of transients and poor people that hang out downtown. Generally they will not bother you--but use your street smarts when downtown or in the city after dark. Stay with groups of people along the way--but Pittsburgh is a very safe city.

When taking in a performance we found a theater that excells in every respect. Not only is it a beautful hall, but the lighting and the sounds are just outstanding which complements the show. The staff is excellent and professional in greeting you and showing you to your seat. While the performance was sold out, everything ran just so smooth. The interior was a marvel to take in with with your eyes of all of the crystal chandeliers and the great painting of the interior walls. Working all together to make any performance an outstanding one.

The Byham Theater has been used for stage shows, plays, and concerts for many of the past 110 years. The theater is ornate and beautiful, while being comfortable. Many Pittsburghers will remember this theater spending some time as the Fulton as well. Now being used as one of the theaters that are tied to the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, the Byham has hosted many different shows, from small to mid-scale musicals to dance shows and various other creative arts.

We visit this theatre regularly. It is pretty and historical and small enough that even the nosebleed seats aren't bad. As an old time theatre, the seats are tiny and closely packed in. It is a bigger problem in the winter when everyone has coats to deal with and for larger or taller people.

We saw Shrek the musical at the Byham last night. We were in the balcony area and could see the stage very well. The "old school" decor was nice and I felt like we stepped back in time. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The bathrooms are in the basement which makes for a long walk if you are on the balcony (several flights of stairs to climb). The seats themselves were comfortable, but there was absolutely no leg room for anyone who is not a child.

As I do every year, I plan our Christmas getaway, and keep the details from Barbara (my wife). This is something she looks forward to, without knowing where it leads her.
This Pittsburgh holiday treat was much more than I expected, but all of my details were planned months ahead. The Byham Theatre was part of a wonderful last day, that ended on Saturday night.
The performance was on 12/08/2012, at 4 p.m., and it was the second day of the musical. Our seats were in the mezzanine, front row and in the center. It couldn't get any better. Most of the singing was projected to this area, and the large speakers made it more believable. The cast was sensational, and quite clear with their words.
The stage was well crafted. I was driving my wife crazy by picking out various items on the stage, that were mostly before our time. When was the last time you had seen a One Horse open Sleigh? Well, it is there on the stage. Maybe you can pick out the late 1800's young childs, hand pulled wicker sled?
The costumes were well designed, but it was the Actors and Actresses that pulled it all together.
They all played multiple parts, as most shows do, but how they put themselves into it, also pulled me in.
My heart felt the emotions of joy, merry, and tragedy.....my eyes were drawn to the ever changing characters.......my feet were alive and dancing with the music. The stage never really changed much, but it was your imagination that kept you abreast of things as it went on.
Bravo to the whole cast, and everyone who had a part in this musical.
Kids loved it as much as the adults. But, it was the children who squeaked the loudest (mostly right behind me).
It appears that most of the workers are volunteers, but work your way past that to look at the history, the craft, and the design of the interior of this theatre. I will stop there. It is best to discover all of this for yourselves.
Have yourselves a Wonderful Holiday.

Our reviews are under that name. I will post the whole weekend later, after the New Year. Look for it.

Yes, there are concession stands that provide beverages (soft drinks and alcoholic) as well as candy / snack foods. However, they are to be consumed outside the seating area. At least they were for the show I attended.

I, personally, enjoy dressing up a bit. However, you see a bit of everything from suit and tie to jeans and t-shirt.

Of course. This theater is very intimate, so there are very few "bad" seats, in the sense that you can clearly see the stage. As for acoustics, there are really no bad seats.
