Ride one of the inclines — Duquesne or Monongahela — to the top on a clear to see spectacular views of Pittsburgh. At the top of the Duquesne you are farther west and so have a better view of the point and Ft. Pitt and can see further up the Allegheny River. From the top of the Monongahela you can see further up the eponymous river and look straight into the downtown area. There are also more shops and restaurants around the top of the latter incline. If the weather is cloudy I recommend waiting and going up in the evening to see the lit view of the city.

We rode the Duquesne incline up to Mt. Washington and walked the mile down to the Monongahela incline. Mt. Washington is truly a beautiful part of the city, we enjoyed walking down the street, checking out the unique and stunning houses. Mount Washington is a must when visiting Pittsburgh, with stunning views and good food.

We went up the Monongahela Incline, which was a great ride, then we walked up Grandview Avenue to the west end where all the "nice" restaurants are. The several overlooks each give a different view of the city and surrounding areas. It is quite a long hike from one incline to the other, about a mile. If wanting to eat while you are there, there are great restaurants available and some that are just pretentious, choose wisely. After dinner we descended on the Duquesne incline at night. Got some really great pictures. Because of the inline rides, the walk and dinner in was about a 4 hour journey for us. You can do it quicker but it was a great way to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon on a gorgeous fall day.

Headed up to Mount Washington early one morning on the way to breakfast to get a overlooking view of the city and take some pictures. Had to see the perspective and the Church that lights up the evening after dark. And all the bridges!
Parked and walked around the neighborhood. Enjoyable morning and view.

Mt Washington is always a great experience. Parking was easy and free on a Sunday evening and the views are always great. You can see everything from Heinz Field all the way to Cathy and it's a chill area!

Love the Shiloh Grill’s macaroni dishes but enjoyed a delicious Sunday Brunch that featured many dishes and a mimosa for very reasonable price. this time. After brunch walked the few blocks to enjoy the view of Pittsburgh from Mt. Washington.

I have been to Mt. Washington 3 times at night for the view. I have never felt uncomfortable. Until this time. We could smell people smoking pot and 1 driver with bottle in her hand. Only a handful of people were wearing masks on the street. I would not take out-of-town friends or family members here again until this pandemic is over.

Wife and I were visiting for the weekend and going up on the hill was a must on our short list.. The incline train had too long of a line, plus I want the freedom to view multiple locations and explore.. I recommend just driving to the top and parking.. no issues..

We walked from downtown, across the bridge, and took the lift up the hill. Up top are a great walking promenade and lots of bar/grill spots to eat, including a terribly popular ice cream place. Saw kids taking prom photos, street dancers, and lots of folks walking, talking, and generally having a good time.

Which incline of the 2 is better to see Mt. Washington? Can you easily walk from one to the other? If so, are they in conjunction in that if you buy round-trip fare you can take one up and the other down?

I think you are asking about the methods to get to the summit - auto or cog. Both take you to the same place; but the only way to do either one-way would be to pay for a car service to drive one-way on the auto road. The train tickets are roundtrip. If you’re asking about the actual track; it’s the same route up and down. Hope this helps.

Where can you park to take the tram up to the top of Mount Washington? What is the cost of parking?

While there is parking below, it is considerably cheaper to parallel park (metered) on Mt. Washington. I tried parking in the lot below and would still have needed to walk a good distance to the incline.
Is there transportation provided

There is a tram that goes up the side of Mount Washington from downtown that's pretty cool to do, then once up there you can walk around and get a great view of the city, have something to eat, then return. Check the schedule so you aren't stranded up there and have to take a cab back though. Or figure out the bus system (no idea on that) or take a cab/uber. Night is truly beautiful from up there - make sure to visit that chapel that's lit up at night too.

I was wondering if this trip makes sense: Drive to top of Duquesne Incline, park near there, go in and look at the photos and the view. Walk the 1 mile to Mon. Incline, ride it down, get on subway at Station Square, go to Point State Park and see the fountain and museum. My goal is to get in some walking - a couple of miles maybe, see the views and get a bite to eat. And not drive in heavy traffic. This will all be on a weekday. Thanks.

The plan seems fine. Wanted to add few more points to your trip. Try to park near Monongahela Incline as parking near Duquesne incline would be bit tight (not much of parking space). Try to walk down few yards down the hill to see the "grand view" (view point). Taking sub to point state park is the best decision considering your trip on a weekday, else you can try park at point state park as well. Check the subway route for station square to point state park (I am not very verse with Pitt subway). If you are hitting stations Square you can also try "Ducky tour" Or "Molly Trolley" Or "Evening River Cruz". If you have some time in the evening you can try drive down to north shore and walk down to the PNC park area and city streets .... This will be a charming experience in a summer evening ....

Cute home town ones and nice fine dining ones, too. Best to get a restaurant on Grandview
