This lovely English-Gothic-style church stopped me in my tracks when we were exploring Downtown Pittsburgh. It shows off a sandstone facade with twin towers and local limestone trim. As an architecture buff, I had to go inside and was blown away by the interior, especially the stunning sanctuary. Tiffany Studios designed 13 of the 14 huge stained-glass windows here, and they are truly works of art. Each measures 26 feet in height and 7.5 feet in width. Scenes in the glass depict both heaven and earth.

I also liked the red marble accents on the carved limestone lower pulpit and the high pulpit's spiral staircase. Wood throughout, including the ceiling, gives a warm feeling to the whole interior. I would have liked a good view of the big window above the entrance, but it is blocked by a massive pipe organ.

This is the fourth building to house the First Presbyterian Church of Pittsburgh. The first went up in 1787; this one opened in 1905. The church stands on a small hill next to Trinity Episcopal Cathedral with fascinating historic burial grounds between the two.

This old church was on my walking path and I bumped into it. It’s pretty great. Looks real old. It reminds me of the old churches in Europe. It’s worth a look and even has a graveyard.

Visited on Dec 22. Pastor Hall has a great message. Choir sang, congregation was very congenial to visitors.

You would never know this church is as big as it is by walking by. The Tiffany windows are a must-see. Design is inspiring. Check out the cemetery between this church and the Episcopal church next door.
