About
The 658-seat Colonial Theatre is located in the heart of downtown Phoenixville, Pennsylvania at 227 Bridge Street. Opened in 1903, the Colonial is the last surviving of four theatres once existing in the borough and is the only theatre of its kind in Chester County. In its early days, the Colonial was home to live stage shows, vaudeville acts and musicals including appearances by Harry Houdini and Mary Pickford. Real movie buffs know that the Colonial was featured in the 1958 science fiction classic, "The Blob," starring Steve McQueen and filmed in and around Phoenixville. The theatre is owned and operated by the Association for the Colonial Theatre (ACT), a nonprofit corporation, which re-opened the theatre in 1999. The Colonial's programming includes art and independent films seven nights a week, classic films, cult & horror films, programs for young audiences, live concerts, and community events. ACT is committed to the full restoration of the Colonial as a cultural arts center.

Colonial Theatre with theatre pipe organ in Phoenixville is great!
Feb 2020
The non-profit Colonial Theatre is a great venue in Phoenixville! It offers both live concerts and movies, including silent movies accompanied by the only publicly performing theatre pipe organ in Chester County. Movies are both first run and classic films. The costs are not high, and I became a member to get even more perks. Strongly sugegst a visit to the Colonial.

Old Fashioned Fun
Feb 2020
Quaint old time theater with street front marquis and old fashioned feel. Several theaters all small in size. Tends to play older movies and/ or non big theater named shows. Lots of unique showings to include the famous Blob. Offer live concerts at times as well. Snack bar with beer/wine available. Offers event space to include roof top views. Worth a visit.

A comfortable walk to the past
Jun 2019
All the seats have been updated and are extremely comfortable. The tickets are reasonable and almost half what it will cost you to see the same film at this one theatre not 21/24 ones! The recreation of the " Blob" a film made in Phoenixville, where people are being chased out of the theatre by a giant tomato is going to make you laugh. My husband and I did it once and we had a great time.

Throwback Theater With Great Acoustics and Sight Lines
Oct 2019
The Colonial Theater is a well-restored and comfortable venue to catch a concert (as we did), movie, or stage show. Walking in transports you back in time as it looks like it hasn't aged a day since the Blob was filmed here 60 years ago. Make sure you go up to the balcony to see the 'Blob Wall'. We enjoyed an excellent show by Mat Kearney as part of his acoustic City of Black and White Revisited tour and the acoustics were fantastic. We sat in the back row of the balcony and had a clear view of the entire stage. The concession areas and restrooms were well sized to care for a large crowd. I look forward to returning to catch another event in the near future.

Best sound quality I have ever experienced at a concert
Oct 2019
We brought my daughter and son in law here to see Matt Kearney in concert during his "Tenth Anniversary City of Black and White Tour". In was an acoustic set, Kearney on guitar, Eli on keyboards, and a percussionist. Either it was the buildings acoustics, Kearney having the perfect loudspeakers, or most probably a combination of both, but as we were sitting up in the back of the balcony, we heard a very clear, near perfect show. Matt has a wonderful voice, and we sure got to hear it. The staff here is very friendly and very quick, reliable, and thorough in handling the ticket process.

The jewel of downtown Phoenixville
Jul 2019
The Colonial Theater is a wonderful entertainment venue. You can see a movie, attend a concert or host a special event there (check out the open air rooftop setting where The Colonial hosts occasional "movie under the stars" viewings). Its retro look and ongoing restoration give it flair, yet it still provides all of the latest amenities. My wife and I attended a movie there recently and were delighted with the experience. Seats were comfortable, the sight lines to the screen were great, and the sound system was spectacular. The old fashioned concession stand offers everything you'd expect (candy, popcorn, soft drinks) and maybe some things you wouldn't (beer, wine and upscale coffees and teas). A big plus is the theater's staff. They are wonderfully welcoming, and a font of information for first-time visitors. Check it out ... you won't be disappointed.

Whether for concerts or movies (old or new) the Colonial is it’s own generator of atmosphere. Manned by quality staff. Keep an eye out for classic movies you always wanted to view on the big screen
