I'll get this out of the way, up front. If you want to experience nature, you need to deal with nature; therefore, if you are a wimp about your vehicle, please say away. This is a beautiful, mostly untouched piece of natural land. The approach...More

We missed the highlights of the spring flower bloom. It's an easy walk through the woods back to a tunnel and then turn around and walk out. The drive down is not nearly as terrifying as some reviewers made it out to be or the...More

I visited Shenk's Ferry Wildflower Preserve many times but to get the most out of your experience, check out dates when guided tours are offered. On my recent visit probably half of what our trained guide pointed out I would have missed! It's well worth...More

This is a lovely spot, tucked away near Conestoga in Lancaster County, PA. Follow the signs and it is not difficult to find. Part of the drive is on a dirt road and parking is primitive. That said, this is well-worth the effort to get...More

The wildflower preserve is wonderful, but access into the place is primitive. The steep gravel road is marked "No winter maintenance". The road has clearly deteriorated over the past two winters. In a 4WD you are risking bottoming out or breaking an axle. The parking...More

Shenk's Ferry has been a family favorite for more than a decade. It's excellent year round but the best time of the year is early spring when the most flowers are in bloom. The trail itself is very easy to follow. It begins near a...More

Not an easy find, but worth the effort to get there. It's located off of Shenk's Ferry Road. We used our phone this last trip to locate Shenk's Ferry Road, then just followed the road down to the preserve. The Holtwood Dam is the nearest,...More

I wanted to give this a 5 star....I really did! After reading the great reviews...with camera in hand, I eagerly drove down the path. Maybe I took the wrong route? The road is gravel...and not bad, until we went through the tunnel. After that it...More

Wildflowers blooming throughout the spring and summer. Even if you come of different weekends of the same month, you will see different flowers. Very nice walk for those who are not physically able to hike.
