- Tracy G24 contributionsPlace always amazes me from food to viewsWhat a cool historic building first off. It's nice because besides the cool restaurant, you can take your drink and walk around and go downstairs to the catacombs and look for staircases because you will find yourself having a blast exploring this place! It is a building built in the late 1830's if I'm correct. But outside of that the food is great too! I was enjoying my mount joy burger. Nice flame broiled taste, and the banging shrimp was so good too. Had a great beer and needed a wheel barrel on the way out.Visited April 2024Traveled with friendsWritten April 8, 2024
- Theresa LEssex, Maryland909 contributionsFun Murder Mystery LuncheonI came with a group of seniors on a bus for a murder mystery luncheon. When we arrived, we were herded into the bar area for drinks and appetizers. For a large group of approximately 50 people, some with walkers, it was too small. By the time I got up to the appetizers they were pretty much gone. There was also not enough room for everyone to sit. This was my only real complaint. I think for large groups, the drinks and appetizers should be omitted or served at the tables where our lunches were served since many of the seniors were not able to stand and handle their plates and drinks at the same time. The lunch, although not much to look at, tasted very good. The chocolate cake for dessert was tasty. The murder mystery was interactive, and one person at each table was involved. The actors moved from room to room to create the mystery and then we found out who was the murderer. Afterwards, those who were able to, took a tour of the brewery, catacombs and outdoors. It was enjoyable and we would return.Visited March 2024Traveled with friendsWritten April 13, 2024
- BrookePhiladelphia, Pennsylvania67 contributionsI'm Glad We Gave This Place Another TryThis is an interesting venue, and it's worth checking out. I've been there several times, but not for many years before this most recent visit. I was pleasantly surprised because the last time I was there, over 10 years ago, I wasn't impressed with my meal. This time, though, everything was great. I got broiled scallops and my husband got the seafood pasta - both were delicious. My husband also got an Old Fashioned, which he enjoyed. Our server was very friendly and attentive. It was a great experience!Visited April 2024Traveled with familyWritten May 31, 2024
- Christina S13 contributionsWorth It 👏🏼I wanted to visit the catacombs since I saw Bube’s on Ghost Hunters. It became the focal stop on our road trip. I didn’t read reviews until we were close, and several poor ones worried me. But we had a fantastic visit. ✨ The building is gorgeous. Our dinner reservation began with a brief tour and background of the property. The hostess walked us to our table downstairs making sure we were careful to watch our step. There’s a great cocktail menu, and the drinks were not weak! (I almost overlooked the shimmery liquor in my spritz because of the low-lit environment.) The seafood pasta and stuffed chicken breast were so delicious. I have never enjoyed brussels sprouts but ate every last one here. Zero complaints on the food, its temperature, or the preparation. Kendra, our server, was enthusiastic and attentive. We inquired and received a couple of paranormal stories. Even upstairs I asked if the bartender could wrap up a pint glass I purchased for our drive, and he did well to protect it. Great service from cool staff. The Biergarten out back is gorgeous. There are tons of games and ample seating. It all adds to the character of the property. Suggestions that could further improve the experience: *A confirmation text/email of the reservation *Bread to nibble on before entrees *Another vegetarian entree option (not a mushroom fan here) Overall, this was the highlight of our 10 day road trip. The charm of Main Street Mount Joy made it even more worth it. I would love to return, and I encourage others too to check out Bube’s.Visited June 2024Traveled with friendsWritten June 30, 2024
- Bobbie Z1 contributionOver-rated Brewery, go somewhere elseAlthough building and atmosphere is really cool... the food is mediocre at best. Debated between Bubes and Lancaster Brewery and we made the wrong choice. It's a micro brewery and they only had 4 of their beers available so was very disappointed. The Catacombs restaurant sounds cool but you have to have reservations and the menu is limited and a bit pricey.Visited July 2024Traveled with familyWritten July 13, 2024

You can't beat the ambiance for a romantic dinner. It was a nice place to go to for the first time to celebrate our 15th wedding anniversary.
We were given the tour which was interesting, and then lead down many steps (ladies don't wear high heels) to the catacombs where our dinner took place.
Our waiter was very helpful and I'm impressed at the number of steps each server has to take to get our food down to us. Our waiter was personable and took some good photos of us which was wonderful of him to do.
The table has real candle light which was a nice touch.
My appetizer which was French Onion soup was so terrible I couldn't eat it. The cheese on top was very hard and the soup itself was barely warm. That was very disappointing as I love French Onion soup.
My wife's entre was Shrimp Alfredo. It was tastier than my food, but you could tell the Shrimp wasn't very fresh.
For my entre, I had which was chicken with some aujus potatoes and green beans. (Chicken Paulette). I rate it a 6.
We didn't have dessert as nothing really appealed to us.
Overall, for the price; I'd say I'd skip this place, or at least not order what we did. Perhaps other things are much better? Also, take note that in warmer weather they have a nice-looking patio area.

Murder Mystery was tons of fun! Catacombs tour was cool. Only downside was the food. At $65 per ticket for the murder mystery, I really feel like the food should be better. The chicken was extremely dry-cut with a steak knife dry. The green beans & potatoes needed butter or seasoning-very bland. Sliced sheet cake for dessert was blah. Steak was ok. Would love to come back for another event if the food is improved.

We went to Bube's to celebrate my birthday. We ate in the Bottling Works. The food was mediocre at best. My husband ordered mac and cheese with pulled pork. Too much grease. The mac and cheese was good alone. My daughter got a flat bread pizza, they drizzled it with olive oil, another item that was too greasy. I ordered a salad with buffalo chicken. The chicken patty reminded me of school cafeteria chicken patty. The salad was good, had to wait a long time for dressing. We also did a paranormal tour. Very little history, just stories about what he saw, there and other place, my husband was disappointed. It was a cheap tour.

The Catacombs, Bube’s Brewery’s upscale below ground restaurant, is a fantastic experience. Take the tour the staff will initially offer you before going down the stairs. It will give you a brief history of the place & acclimate you to “the depths.” I am claustrophobic, and the tour guide and tour helped abolish my fears. Dan, our server, was outstanding, takes time with you & always asks guests where they are from. He is an excellent relationship builder that enhanced our visit. Our appetizer was the baked Brie; very good, but I would recommend warming it a bit more & serving it with crackers, crostini, or French bread. My husband & sister loved their filet, but were not keen on the mashed purple potatoes. My husband felt it was one of the most tender filets he ever had. My salmon was good, but not my favorite; I was able to substitute asparagus for the brussel sprouts, so my dinner side was great. The Catacombs is an extremely unique experience. Many reviews have stated the food is “hit or miss.” I disagree, because even if the food was terrible, and ours was really good, the experience is worth going. We will go again. The “real” candles add to the atmosphere. We are planning to bring several neighbor couples for the murder mystery event & dinner.

It had been years since I had been to Bube's Brewery, when we were in the area and had the opportunity to stop there for dinner a Saturday evening. My memories were of great food in a beautiful, unique historic building. The building is still unique, beautiful and historic, but that is all that can be said. The food was hands down, the worst food I have ever been served in a restaurant! It was literally inedible! My husband, son and I were seated in the bottling works for dinner. I ordered the Mediterranean pasta, my son ordered the ultimate grilled cheese with a side of onion rings and my husband ordered the Mt. Joy burger with a side of onion rings. Our waitress was fine and our food came in a timely manner, but one bite was literally all we could manage. It was disgusting. My pasta tasted like it had been cooked days before and had been sitting in a fridge uncovered. It tasted old, stale and cold. The "sauce", if you can call it that, tasted like a bottled balsamic glaze that again, was very, very stale. One bite was all that I could stomach. My son's "ultimate grilled cheese" had barely any cheese on it and the crab was so incredibly salty that you just could not eat it. It was as if someone poured half a cup of salt into it. My husband's burger was dry as cardboard and the bun was burned black. The onion rings that my husband and son ordered were soggy and tasted old and stale. One bite of this nastiness was the most any of us could stomach. The waitress asked if everything was okay and we explained it was just terrible. She did not offer to comp anything and none of us were brave enough to let them take another stab at bringing us a fresh plate of nasty, so we asked for the check, paid it and left. Our two sodas and water were fine, but definitely not worth $60! By this time we were all starving so we ended up stopping at McDonalds on the drive home. After what we had just experienced, McDonald's was delicious! Yes, the food was truly THAT bad! It's such a shame because it is a beautiful venue, but after that experience we will never be back!

Stayed in Mt Joy over Valentine's Day weekend and came to eat here Sunday evening in the catacombs. Overall, I have to say it was an extremely disappointing meal, but in a beautiful setting, and our server Dan really helped save what could've been a bad evening all the way around.
The Good: the setting in the catacombs is very beautiful and romantic, we sat in the room with the huge beer casks and it was lovely. The crab dip appetizer was very good, lots of real crab, very tasty. The desserts were excellent and well worth it. The wine list was fairly decent. Dan our server, is a great guy who knows the history of the place really well.
The Bad: my GF ordered the "Fillet Mignon" (medium-well, $32) and I ordered the NY Strip (medium, $28). Wow were they really bad. First off, what they served my girlfriend was NOT fillet (see picture), it was flat and oblong shaped rather than the classic round and 2-3 inches high. It was also very tough, and so overcooked that it was like a piece of shoe leather. We complained to our server Dan who, after apologizing profusely, promptly took it off our bill and comped us two desserts. My NY Strip was ok, cooked correctly to medium, but kind of tough and pretty flavorless.
Overall, we were very disappointed with the steaks we were served. This is a beautiful restaurant in a very unique setting, but I feel like the food is well overpriced for the quality that you get.

Stopped at Bube's for the first and last time yesterday to check out the historical building and have a meal. We were cheerfully greeted and seated in the bar area. The table was dirty. Our waiter apologized, wiped it and we ordered a couple of brews. Mine was served flat. On recommendation I ordered a burger cooked Medium. When it finally arrived after a prolonged wait the burger was woefully undercooked, bloody and lukewarm. I asked the waiter to take the burger alone and put it in the microwave but after another wait a female server brought an entirely new burger, also rare but not as bloody.By this time my husband had finished his meal and beer. Our waiter apologized and removed my meal from the check. We tipped him generously. While waiting for my husband to use the restroom I was distressed to hear voices around the corner in the kitchen loudly laughing and discussing my experience. "Some Old Lady didn't like her burger" I believe came from our waiters mouth and something about the first one being trashed. I walked into the doorway, identified myself as the "old lady" they were talking about and informed them that I would be speaking to the manager. We left without seeing the rest of the building. I didn't wish to create a further scene in front of other patrons so I requested to speak to the manager by phone. She apologized and promised to speak to the staff.
The "children" left to run the kitchen should be reminded that even an Old Lady can write a review!

We went for a 44th birthday celebration and spent the night in the hotel. For $60 a person it was a rip off. We were told the dinner came with a pitcher of beer per couple, they refused to bring it out and blamed it on covid..what??? The salad came out without dressing and we had to wait 15 minutes for some. We had a couple who paid for dinner but were still upstairs and we had difficulty getting them their dinner to take upstairs. One dinner didn't come out and we were told there were 96 orders in front of that one, so everyone was eating except 1 person. Also order 2 drinks at a time. I couldn't follow the dialog at all, it wasn't entertaining.
Pros: the hotel was very cool and the atmosphere was relaxed. The catacombs was really neat and I would recommend a tour and go down the street to Gus's for cheap and delicious homemade food

Need a new Real Chef! I wanted to share my disappointment eating at Bubes Brewery Valentine's Day. While the Catacomb is very romantic, the food was an expensive massive let down.
The Crab cakes were barely a sliver of plain uncooked crab meat hiding sopping wet bland rice. Tossed bland extra large barely cooked bland green beans were tossed haphazardly on my plate. My old fashioned blackberry tasteless adult beverage was also a miserable failure. Don't even get me started on my boyfriend's bland surf and turf! We dd get decent little news of salad and French onion soup. If not for those sides I would have starved. For the first time in my life I could not eat my very expensive dinner. Thank god my boyfriend is an understanding compassionate person! He conquered hs plate with a poker face!

Such a unique place with no much potential but fell very short. The food was horrible. Odd spices on mozzarella moons, chicken wings that were tiny and had not meet, and burgers that were dry. The wait staff apologized for the table being dirty, did they expect us to clean it? The bar smelled like my college bar, old stale beer that hasn't been cleaned in some time. The bathroom was disgusting. Saw others returning food and wish we had the guts to do so as well. Never again.

Hi, about how long is the dinner and murder mystery? I’m asking so we can set expectations with the baby sitter! Thanks!

I do not know as I have not yet gone to the murder mystery dinner. Our regular dinner in the Catacombs was 2 hours for 3 people on a Thursday night.
