We live about a mile from Greendale and I have walked this very large cemetery dozens of times. Besides the history of seeing tombstones dating back over 150 years, it is a beautiful place for a walk any time of the year, especially if yo like doing some hills. In addition, each late Spring it is teeming with Rhododendron and just a drive through is marvelous. …

Very large, lots of history and beautiful landscaping. Very old headstones and interesting. They also have tours during different times of the year for you to learn more about the history of the residents.

This cemetery is a beautiful place to visit. Far from solemn, it features innumerable historical opportunities including parts of David Mead and George Washington's physician! Go in the last weeks of may to early june to witness the breathtaking rhododendrons blooming all over the cemetery. You can also hike through a ravine trail to access the older plots and the newer pet cemetery. When you are there, you actually feel the years in the ancient trees, moss, and groundskeeping.
