Who the hell makes a dam out of plywood? Most of the dam is broken and the debris has polluted and overflooded the river. Rookie mistake that most likely won't be fixed for years. What a shame.

The Holtwood Dam and Loch 12 interpretive area is a good place to take a walk along the Susquehanna river. The Mason-Dixon hiking trail passes through this area and there are several areas to access the river including an historically informative area on the old...More

Used to come here and spot nesting Bald Eagles along the river. Very scenic and not frequented by too many visitors.

But only because I like that it's not very well known. This is a great place for a quiet walk by the river or check out the abandoned locks in the adjacent parks. Peaceful and unspoiled without many amenities or parking.

The area of Holtwood Dam, Lock 12 and Mill Creek Falls is fantastic! The hiking trails are great and the scenery is beyond beautiful! Great Picnic area available and also bathrooms below the Lock 12 parking lot. Will be returning for sure!

I'm by no means an expert kayaker, but there is a great "play area" for experience kayakers on the York side of the Dam. On the south side of the nearby Norman Wood Bridge, there is enjoyable and more relaxing canoeing and kayaking opportunities. You...More

This is a great place. If you go the cliffs to jump and the more secluded areas just be mindful that there are a lot of teenagers and college kids there, so there's a lot of trash and not always a kid friendly environment. But...More

My wife and I decided to head to Holywood for a nice day hike. There are plenty of challenging trails to choose from and many lead to the edge of the river were you can jump in and cool off if you are careful.

There are plenty of places for drives in the local area. Check out Indian Steps Museum in the York side and Pequea area on the Lancaster side of the river. If you are willing to drive a bit further, John Wright Restaurant... More
