A little gem of a place, nothing fancy just pure history, the house is lovely, you could just move in, they have done a brilliant job bringing it back to life. The guide was very pleasant dressed in the period, if he walked down the stairs and through the wall you wouldn't be surprised. Extremely good value, well worth a... More

Starting the the architecture, Rock Ford is one of the few un-modified Georgian houses left in America. Many of them have been updated over the years, but Rock Ford remains very much as it was built in 1794. Despite what the Wiki page photo captions indicate, they are reversed; what's labeled as the front is the rear, and vice versa.... More

I would live here if I could. The grounds are so nice and well maintained that I imagine weddings here are quite beautiful. A nice piece of history in the middle of the park that we are thankful has been preserved.

This plantation is in a lovely, serene setting. It is one of the only surviving Georgian style homes remaining from the revolutionary war and was owned by General Hand who was Washington's chief of staff, which I never knew about. Worth a visit. When we were here they had a Mother's Day festival which just increased our experience.

Edward Hand served as Adjutant General in the Revolutionary War, crossed the Delaware with George Washington, and then returned to Lancaster where he built this beautiful Georgian style home and lived out his life as a physician and gentleman farmer. Beautifully restored colonial era home. General Hand was Adj. General to George Washington during the American Revolution. A medical doctor, Hand lived at Wheatland with his wife and large family. Rescued from neglect by Lancaster's Junior League, this beautiful home is nestled in Lancaster County Park system.
