We took the 11am tour and loved the history that was provided by our tour guide. The home is well preserved and we got to see pictures of the outside in various states of restoration over the years. Volunteers were making hot processed soap(which they should sell in the gift shop) and the woman in the kitchen was so much... More

Our tour guide, Meagan, was very knowledgeable and gave a fantastic tour full of information! This is the slow time and we were lucky to get a private tour. The mansion and grounds are located about 10 minutes from the city of Lancaster where we were staying for the weekend. Very interesting history of a revolutionary war general and his... More

When our inn keeper recommended Rock Ford as a short day trip we thought let's give it a shot. Lancaster has more history than just the Amish. The plantation was founded by one of George Washington's generals. His family's history is very interesting and so is the plantation. It has been restored with period pieces of furnishings, wall treatments and... More

We just attended one of Rock Ford's special events (a Sleepy Hollow performance). It was outstanding! The actors and actresses did a great job. There was even dancing. Rock Ford looks very pretty at night with all of the candle light. The ending is awesome. This was a great special event and we look forward to attending other events here.

Drove through Lancaster traffic and road construction. Guided tour didn't occur . Parking was minuscule, information was nonexistent.

Our guided tours of the mansion occur Tuesday through Sunday on the hour from 10 am to 3 pm. Tour information is clearly posted both on our website, on our brochures, on our door and on the... More

The Hands house is a wonderful piece of American history. You will get a very good sense of American history and the hand family. Really worth the trip if you like old houses and history.

My husband and I had the pleasure of visiting Rock Ford Plantation as part of an anniversary getaway. This was not our first time visiting the Amish country; after one day we were "Amished out." We both love history so this was perfect. We were the only ones there for the 10:00 tour so we got a private tour with... More

If history is your thing, and especially the American Revolution, then Rock Ford Plantation is worth the visit. The home of General/Doctor Edward Hand, Adjutant General to George Washington, member of the Continental Congress 1782 and local physician who preferred to be called "Doctor" rather then General. We arrived on a rainy Thursday, which did not distract from our visit,... More

We knew next to nothing about the home before visiting. We are so glad we took the time to visit. The docent was gracious and well versed in the history of the place. Although many pieces were not owned by Adj. General Hand, records from the estate were consulted to recreate what was originally there. Hours are somewhat limited in... More
