Sandy was very knowledgeable. Visiting the Amish in Lancaster on YOUR OWN would be a huge mistake. You would never be able to learn the true Amish history and beliefs and way of life, without a competent guide like Sandy.

My fiance, myself and my 9 year old daughter all live within 30 minutes of Lancaster and have experienced most of the Amish experiences (which are not really authentic), but this experience was different, I finally had the opportunity to sit down to a home cooked meal by a wonderful Amish woman and have a great conversation with the family. My 9 year old loved joining the kids in a soccer game after dinner. Phil was our guide and was so knowledgeable about the area and the Amish. I can't wait to take more of LoKals excursions. What a great way to spend the evening! Thanks so much Phil!

My friend and I were on a weekend trip and found this class. Mike is a retired baker and runs this class out of his gorgeous kitchen. Because it was in summer; we made a peach cobbler, blueberry pie and a chocolate roll with ganache instead of the shoofly pie. It was a total baking experience and we did most of the work; learning a lot in the process. I know now what ganache is and can make it. Best of all, we got to take our work with us. One of the high points of our trip. Do it, you won’t be disappointed.

The tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and a local. The tour provided history with a stop at 2 pubs. The pubs had a great selection of craft beer. The history we learned was interesting and informative. I would recommend the tour. It is about 1 and a half hours of walking, with 2 stops in pubs. You will learn about Lancaster, its history and its relationship with breweries.

This was a very enjoyable morning for myself, my husband, and our daughter. We visited Sara and her children for lunch. She was very welcoming and prepared a delicious meal for us. Her three children were very helpful and were easy to fall in love with. I do wish there had been a bit more time to spend with the family as it seemed that as soon as we sat down and ate it was time to leave. Sara did entertain us with a song on her harmonica and she led us in singing. I also wish we could have stopped and taken some photos at the covered bridge on the way to the home. I only gave it a four because it seemed rushed and the guide even stated he had another group waiting on him. However, he was very knowledgeable of the area.

We didn’t quite know what to expect, and the faces on our children when we told them what we were going to do were priceless.

We were picked up at the community center by a van that took us on a scenic drive through the country. Our driver was on time but we got a late start due to one of the guests being late. We waited & waited. Annoying! I understand a 10 min or so grace period, but this ONE person’s lack of planning or direction or whatever her issue was was not everyone else on the tours problem! So rude! And Inconsiderate of driver to make us all wait, ultimately she never even showed, and ended up meeting us at the location.

Finally, we arrived at the home of Sarah. We were greeted by her two children. So polite and welcoming. Lunch was ready! We sat right down and began. The food was amazing! True comfort food. Delicious and plenty of it. Chicken and meatloaf and tons of sides. And dessert, yum!

It was such a wonderful cultural experience to be welcomed into Sara’s home, and was great to share this experience with our children.

Highly recommend!!

If you are in the area, this experience is a must!!! The family was so warm and welcoming and the dinner was delicious! It was so special...probably the highlight of our trip! They taught us how to ride a scooter and showed us all around their place. Mike is wonderful to work with. He gave us so much information before arriving at our Amish family home. Such a fun time!!!

Mike was the best. He promptly found my wife and I at the meeting area. We then proceeded in a historical tour of the great city of Lancaster. Mike was extremely knowledgeable explaining the architecture and history of all the buildings and stories of Lancaster. We also visited three breweries and drank delicious beers.
I highly recommend this tour with Mike. A personal tour of the up and coming city of Lancaster and a wonderful time with Mike, who will be your friend at the end of the tour. Mike, also gave us awesome tips on where to dine too.

We had a wonderful afternoon with Mike. We took a beautiful drive through the Lancaster countryside and saw farms, Amish buggies and so much more, highlighted by interesting and historical information. We visited with two lovely Amish families and got a feel for their day to day life. We had delicious Amish made ice cream at one stop and very yummy soft pretzels at another. The tour felt personal and authentic; not at all commercial. I would highly recommend this tour.

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Lancaster and professionalism of the guide “Mike”. The walking part was as described but keep in mind it is a hilly area. The trip to ice cream and Amish farm were interesting and relaxing. Learned alot about the area! Highly recommended!
