About
Noted in National Geographic Traveler for its superb acoustics, the 1881 Opera House was an important stop on the old Vaudeville circuit. Today's schedule is diverse, from folk, rock, classical, and jazz. Recent renovations include a new steel roof, sound system and theater seats. Relaxed, intimate and all seats have a great view. The Opera House is located in the heart of Jim Thorpe's historic district, just a quick stroll to pubs, restaurants, lodging and shops.

We spent a night in Jim Thorpe at the end of May 2019. We were walking around town and saw that a musical group called the Kruger Brothers were playing at the Mauch Chunk Opera House. We hadn’t heard of them prior to that night, but decided to buy tickets to see them play. We were pleasantly surprised. They are excellent musicians and the acoustics in the opera house are very good. We sat in the balcony which offered a great view of the stage. The building is beautiful and historic. The bathrooms were clean.

We attended 2 shows at the Opera House right before the pandemic shut down. We had an amazing time seeing The Tartan Terrors and The Kilmaine Saints. The venue is great for intimate concerts. Great seats, lighting, large stage and clean bathrooms! They have snacks and drinks available for purchase. We've seen quite a few shows here over the years. Always a great time!

There isn't a bad seat in the house of this old fashioned theater which has been beautifully restored. It's been modernized for today's performances but still has a Victorian opera house charm to it.

We heard a Simon and Garfunkle re-enactment by Swearingen and Beadle that was good as the original performers. You can arrive 5 to 10 minutes before show time and move easily to your seat without any crowds or hassle. The heater serves beverages and wine before hand as well as wonderful desserts from local bakeries and markets.

The second floor hosts a series of history exhibits about Mauch Chunk as well as a small balcony. Upstairs or downstairs, all of the seats give excellent views. Event prices are reasonable too.

Historic, intimate concert venue set in Jim Thorpe - a town full of character, history, and charming shopping opportunities. The Opera House has a great variety of music to choose from. Anxious to get there again. Check out their website.

The opera house is similar to an auditorium. I was expecting a bit more grandeur when I heard opera house. Not a deal breaker at all, just a bit surprised. In case you might be too, I hope that tempers your expectations.

The opera house books many bands to play live. I found it a great treat to unexpectedly go to a concert and listen to live music for a few hours on Saturday night and listen to music and a band I would never have otherwise.

Acoustics are fine and there isn't a bad seat in the house.

I recommend catching a show if there's one on the weekend you go.

We were with friends walking around in Jim Thorpe and most of the stores were closed. As we walked by the MauchChunk Opera House we were invited in by very nice man. There was a band playing and they sounded awesome. We have had a vacation house inAlbrightsville for 30 years but never ventured pass this place. But we will definitely be back. Had the man not asked us to come in...it was late and the band was almost over we would have continued walking but low and behold we are signed up for the website and plan to come back! It’s a great venue for up and personal to the bands. It’s dated and I’m not sure how long this has been open but it’s quaint. I would love to see it during the day. The tickets are affordable and it takes us back to an earlier time. Well done whoever you were that invited us in. Thank you!

The Opera House is a sweet little venue that offers a wide variety of music and family entertainment. I think it seats about 550 (+/-) people and the acoustics are on mark. The prices for tickets to all events are VERY reasonable. The working staff are very friendly and help make things right if there are any problems. I would highly recommend the Opera House for a pleasant night out for live music or any other programs offered...
