Noted in National Geographic Traveler for its superb acoustics, the 1881 Opera House was an important stop on the old Vaudeville circuit. Today's schedule is diverse, from folk, rock, classical, and jazz. Recent renovations include a new steel roof, sound system and theater seats. Relaxed, intimate and all seats have a great view. The Opera House is located in the heart of Jim Thorpe's historic district, just a quick stroll to pubs, restaurants, lodging and shops.

I visited the Mauch Chunk opera house to see a cover band. I did not know what to expect, and was pleasantly surprised. This venue is unique in that there is an area for dancing in front of the stage and then plenty of concert hall seating as well. The size is fantastic in that it is smaller and there... More

Could not be the convenience from the hotel - 2 blocks down from the Inn, easy walk. Great old place, sound was fine, we were 4th row from stage. VERY informal, had the old hippie vibe which is always cool at a show. Great intimate venue for a concert.

What an amazing venue in the middle of nowhere! The shows are wonderful and musicians are so talented. I especially like 40 Story Radio Tower live for podcasts. Funny skits, great poetry and original music by talented bands. Let's not forget The Sweet Note Cafe'. Wow homemade cookies and organic coffee to die first,

We saw The David Bromberg Quintet there. Although we had 3rd row center, we could of sat in the last row and been no more than 20 ft. from the stage... Beautiful, historic venue. The Staff were attentive, the beers at the bar were iced cold. It was clean. The sound was great.

We saw the Adam Ezra Group here in late April (who if you ever have the chance to see, do it!! Great energetic, talented band that reminds me of a combination of instrumentals of the Dave Matthews Band, and raspy voice like the classic blues/rock groups with real life lyrics). The theater is extremely well kept for its age and... More

We were walking by in the afternoon and we were invited in for a quick tour. Still i need of a little repair, it's still impressive. We returned that night for a blues concert and the sound was incredible. The lead singer kept commenting on how great the acoustics were. Their sound was full and round, not flat like in... More

We chose to go to a Johnny Cash tribute band concert. I will begin by saying that we are regular theater goers and we regularly usher at our local theater. Tickets to this show were sold out and we were not able to sit together which we did not mind. Ticket price reasonable. Friendly greeters welcomed us to the theater... More

Hello Marian, Thank you for your review and the detail. My apologies go out to you that your time here was not satisfactory. Email me at mcoperahouse@gmail.com for two tickets to another future show, should you be in town. Tickets are typically available for just about all shows. We actually do some opera and classical shows, which produce very different... More

Our first time here for a pearl Jam Tribute band named 'Ten'. The band was awesome and every seat in the house was a good one. The acoustics were great. There was a small wine and beer bar, and also a snack bar with pastries and coffee. All the staff was very helpful and friendly. We will definitely be going... More

On a whim, we decided to go to Mauch Chunk Opera house. Never in my wildest dreams would I ever go to see a blue-grass band... Yup! Fell in love... The opening act was fabulous. Serene Green. You could tell they are a new start to a great career. I would have loved to hear more. Cornmeal was awesome. So... More

Attended a performance here in March, 2016. Won't go back. The facility is in a poor state, needs a lot of work. And that is a shame with all the history behind the place. Shortly after the performance began a band of street cretins came into the facility, with bottles of beer in hand and went right up front and... More
