This is something to do one time as others have noted. We were in Jim Thorpe for the day and saw the sign for this as we drove into town. The jail is small, but very interesting considering prisoners were here as recently as 1995!...More

I agree with the reviewer who said that the tour was a one and done place. We enjoyed our tour, but there wasn't really anything special about it. Our tour guide did ask if anyone had any questions, but stuck to her memorized speech. It...More

Glad you enjoyed your tour of the Old Jail. Yes, the guides do have a memorized 40 minute script. That's so that each visitor gets the same important information with nothing left out. And I admit that after giving the tour 5 times a day...More

This jail was worth visiting. It was disturbing to think it only closed it's prison doors to inmates in the early 70's ! Parking is an issue if you want to park close by. We recommend it.More

Thanks for recommending a visit to the Old Jail Museum. Glad you learned a bit of history while enjoying your tour. The Old Jail actually held prisoners until 1995. Yes, parking can be a problem on a very busy day in all of Jim Thorpe....More

Visiting the Old Jail was very interesting. The guides provided so much historic information and also stories from the past. It was an eye opener to see how the prisoners, many Irish, were mistreated. Some of the stories were heart breaking. It was an excellent...More

It was an interesting tour. Shocking conditions for prisoners. It gives an idea of how poorly treated the prisoners were.

The jail was fascinating. Incredible to see the warden's family quarters and the jail conditions. Hard to believe that the jail was operational until the mid 1990's. Make sure you see the hand print and hear the story of the prisoner escape through the window!...More
