The 1-hour, 16-mile round-trip follows the Lehigh River over bridges, through Glen Onoko, into the Lehigh Gorge State Park. High-rising cliffs and mountain scenery surround the train along the route to Old Penn Haven. You will see hikers, rafters, mountain bikers, and wildlife along the railroad. You will learn about railroad lore, wildlife, the history of the anthracite coal region, and the people who launched America into the Industrial Age. Train ride views in October were spectacular! The leaves were all turning color. The guide conductor was knowledgeable and with just the right amount of humor to make this trip worthwhile.

We de died at the last limits to drive over to Jim Thorpe and ride the old train. Good idea! Ticket booth is right next to the train cars so it is convenient. It was a little pricey, $14 for adults and $9 for children....More

Yes, dogs are allowed as long as they are well-behaved. There were a few on there during my last visit!

The train going to Hometown had a caboose but I never rode in the caboose.
