High-rising cliffs and mountain scenery surround the train along the route to Old Penn Haven. You will see hikers, rafters, mountain bikers, and wildlife around every curve of the railroad. You will learn about railroad lore, wildlife, flora, the history of the anthracite coal region, and the people who launched America into the Industrial Age.

First, a tip...if you get there early, you can reserve the caboose for your group. It holds up to 8 people and has a flat rate of $99. There aren't as many windows in the caboose but you are allowed to stand on the rear "balcony" as the train is moving. A great, unblocked view! There is plenty of space... More

The Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway takes you on a one-hour ride around the mountains. It is a wonderful ride and the mountains are gorgeous. For anyone who loves trains, and definitely for little children, this is a great experience. The railway personnel are kind and courteous, explaining things as you go along. I thoroughly enjoyed my ride and could easily... More

we recommend the open car, costs a few dollars more but worth it, no windows to obstruct your view for picture taking. If so inclined you can bring your bike along and ride back to town for a few extra dollars or ride round trip. The views are nice and the have people in each car to answer any questions... More

We were here in the summer so there wasn't too much to see. However, the view was beautiful and the river was very nice. There was a lot of construction in the area so it was difficult to get around without delays but we did enjoy the are. It would be spectacular in the fall!

This is one of most scenic train rides around. Everything is top-notch, with good equipment and facilities and an excellent ride over well-maintained track. We took the bike train, which is a wonderful and very easy way to get a train ride and a bike ride in during the same afternoon.

We took the 9:30 train on Sunday morning. There is no coffee served on the train or near the station, so bring your own. They loaded our bikes and we boarded the train. The narration on the train is great. They point out interesting and historic points along the way. About 15 minutes into the trip , they allowed anyone... More

This was a Nice relaxing ride. The conductor gave a nice monologue along the way. However, there is really nothing to see except woods and a few glimpses of the river. Glad we did it but no reason to do it again.

we took the short trip on the open train. it was $36 for 2 people. We had a kid the stood in front of us the whole time. I asked the person working our train if he would have him sit and he did not a thing. The best part of the ride is to see the train unhook and... More

We had a fabulous morning - the 9am train to Whitehaven, followed by the bike ride 25 miles back to Jim Thorpe. The ride up was relaxing and beautiful watching the scenery go by, and there was an excellent commentary at various points along the way by one of the car hosts. The bike ride back was wonderful - we... More
