Lovely Gardens in the Middle of Town
Jun 2021 • Couples
We decided to take a walk through the Port Stephens Native Flora Gardens. There is a large map near the eastern car park showing the tracks through the gardens. There is even one suitable for a wheelchair.
We also found a box with a brochure showing places of interest, the walks and what you are likely to see.
The walk was easy and had some lovely views over the water through the trees. There a several seats where you can rest. There weren’t too many flowers out except some wattle which was pretty.
There is a rotunda picnic area near Fly Point. A great deal of work has obviously gone into making the tracks, constructing seats and maintaining the gardens. Wonderful natives with no sign of any nasty invasive species. Well done!

A delightful walk through some local habitat
Aug 2019
Some volunteers have worked very hard to maintain this piece of bush. The paths are well maintained, and the signage appropriate. Part of a group of 6 adults, and all of use gained something from the experience, even if it was simply some contact with nature.
I'm not a purist necessarily, though I was a little surprised to see Kangaroo Paws being tended within the garden. To that point, it had an appropriate local feel to it.

Nice but not essential

It really depends how much you like flowers. My partner loved it, but I thought it was ok. Worth considering.

Great patch of bush near the centre of town
Jul 2018 • Couples
No it's not the Roayl Botanic Gardens in Sydney or Mt Tomah, but it is a patch of bush in the middle of an urban area which has been conserved, maintained, upgraded and interpreted. The local group has done a great job in fostering the native vegetation, and creating groves of interest throughout the gardens. Each time we have visited we have been thrilled by the diversity of birdlife in the area. It is a great place to stop and listen to the rainbow and scaly breasted lorikeets and kookburras. It is a great opportunnity for families - and oldies - to experience a bit of Aussie bush still in the centre of a town.

Not very exciting
Jan 2018 • Friends
I thought this was a paid activity with beautiful gardens, it is just a section near the beach that is not built on. Not very exciting. You can go there at anytime. There are so many more beautiful things to see in the area.

Nice thing to do to calm your mind
Dec 2016 • Friends
If you have an hour or so take the opportunity to visit this lovely little garden. It has lots of little tracks off it which lead to secret little areas.
Its just a quiet easy thing to do to clear your mind and take in what nature has to offer. Take a load off and take a book, there are benches dotted around the gardens where you can be in complete peace

A pleasant bush walk from Little Beach to Fly Point
Apr 2017 • Couples
The Port Stephens Native Flora Garden is open to the public and free to access. Several walking tracks cut through the bush and enable visitors to admire the native flora and fauna, the latter mostly of the feathered variety. It is well marked and some paths are wheel chair accessible. The suggested walking times shown on the large signs at the entrance for the various pathways appear to be too generous and in fact you can walk the paths in a much shorter time. Though in places the paths are quite narrow, they are not steep and quite easy for anyone in reasonable physical shape. The trees provide shade, which would be welcome on a hot day. Definitely worth exploring, but unless you are a botanist or a bird watcher don't expect too much.
