Ngaran Ngaran cultural experience

A truly immersive weekend! Dwayne Harrison’s narratives caught our hearts and minds as we gained a deeper understanding and respect for his Indigenous Yuin culture around Narooma and Bermagui on the NSW south coast. His extensive knowledge and teachings were impressive. Through the local beaches, fish traps, lakes, valleys and rock formations, we saw or connected with Grandfather Sun, Mother Earth, mother mountain Gulaga and her two sons Barranguba and Najanuga, the kissing seas and many other sacred landscapes.

Dwayne has genuinely embraced his culture and is extremely talented: fluent in his language, storytelling, didgeridoo playing, singing and cooking. He has been taught well by his wise grandfather: elder Uncle Max Harrison who would be proud of Ngaran Ngaran cultural experience

All our food had an Indigenous twist from the grazing box in our rooms to the dinners and breakfasts. Highly recommend the experience. We will be back to climb Gulaga, weather permitting!

Dwayne’s knowledge and his sensitivity to story and ceremony. In turn, Dwayne was teaching his co-worker Jack who participated keenly.

I recently participated in the Ngaran Ngaran cultural immersion tour based in Mystery Bay and Mount Gulaga. I can honestly say this is one of the most authentic and memorable experiences I have had in my life - it is a world class tour! More than that, Dwayne and his team guide you on a transformational life experience connected to the Aboriginal cultural stories of the place and its people. As a result my thinking on many things has altered from participating. The indigenous food helped to complete an outstanding 40-hour journey. Thank you. Meredith

Such a privilege to participate in a Ngaran Ngaran Culture Awareness experience on Yuen Country. The Gulaga National Park tour - a 10km walk to discover sacred sites of the Creation at 750m above sea level was awe inspiring. The Mystery Bay cabins were spotless. The hospitality (including magnificent food) was remarkable (especially with my limited diet!). I learnt and unlearnt such a lot from Dwayne and Shane - who demonstrated amazing intelligence and generosity. They are skilled teachers. Thank you.

Absolutely blown away by the Yuin retreat. I had the honour of climbing Mt Gulaga and seeing sacred Aboriginal sites under Dwayne's cultural guidance. I was completely blown away with Gulaga's beauty and deep cultural significance. The accommodation and food was beautiful and overall had an amazing experience which has left me inspired and rejuvenated. Definitely going back!

Dwayne is a fine ambassador for Yuin country and its people. This is a unique experience where you are invited to visit sacred sites, learn traditional stories and connections to the land and sample amazing indigenous inspired cuisine. I would thoroughly recommend Dwayne and the Ngaran Ngaran team. The memories will be with me for ever.

I had such a magical experience walking up Gulaga Mountain and experiencing her hidden treasures. Dwayne and his family were so welcoming and generous with sharing their culture with me, it was a real honour. Uncle Max Dulumunmun Harrison also visited and I was so mesmerised to watch him perform a smoking ceremony with his grandchildren. I was also entralled on the last day when we were invited to attend and participate in a ceremony to awaken the fish traps at Mystery Bay. What a weekend! Thank you so much.

I have been on the Ngaran Ngaran cultural awareness experience once and will be going again this year!

From the start of the trip we were very much accepted into Dwayne and Max's family for the weekend. They made sure we were well fed and ready for our cultural experience. We were there at a time when whales were migrating and it was just breathtaking with the ceremonies. For the walk up Mt Gulaga you do need to have a reasonable level of fitness but it is an incredible journey and everyone has a very different experience. You are always able to travel up the mountain in the car if unable to walk up. It is difficult to describe the positive experience and understanding I gained from this trip. I learnt more about myself in a weekend than I had throughout most of university. I would definitely recommend this trip to anyone who would like to learn more about Aboriginal culture and spirit, or if you want to gain a greater understanding and respect for our incredible country, or if you just need a weekend away because everything is a bit crazy in your life.

This is a full on yet stress free experience.
I guess all of us 16(mostly postgraduate students) have gained and have enjoyed the journey. Even though we are only parents.
Not only is the breathtaking beach and the mountain rocky forest, but the Host Dwayne's effort played an important part of our comfort and learning/healing process of the journey
It can be a healing process and some people shed a few tears too.
Very much appreciate Amelia's generosity of the dining experience and her passion on food. It is better than my best holiday food in the past . It included Bodalla cheeses, honey, plus many local produces .(I let you find out yourself )
We were blessed to see their kids, 8 years old KB and 6 years old Lacie and made us feel very happy with their presence.
You will have ceremonies; healing time quiet time to reflect yourself; social time for even not too social people like myself, yarning time; and cultural time.
The digeridoo music by the host was very nice too.
Highly recommend if you love nature, if you want spiritual time and if you are interested in Aboriginal culture

Just 4 of us (2couples) in the group for this weekend. We received a very inclusive & personalised experience but my sense is that even with a larger group, this would be the case. Before the end of Friday evening, we felt part of the "family". Dwayne & his family definitely make this happen. As a non-indigenous group it was an emotional & enriching experience to participate in the ceremonies, understand the stories & of course have a remarkable adventure climbing Mt Gulaga & becoming immersed in the creation story which is so important for indigenous people. Sadly, many Australians don't understand our first people's culture & it's a privilege to have this opportunity to be educated. It's as relevant in 2016 as it was in ancient times. I would recommend this tour to everyone, those who love nature, those who want to learn about indigenous culture in "what we call Australia" & our overseas visitors who will find this an experience that will be unforgettable & be up there with anything they do throughout Australia. Thanks for a life changing & energising weekend, Dwayne! We'll be back!

This was such a fantastic experience. Our family had an amazing time, we also met lovely couples so it suits any and all. The weekend is organised perfectly, great accommodation and food and time to relax. BUT the best best part of it is the connection you get to aboriginal culture, their stories, the way they treat and respect the land and each other. Dwayne and his team are brilliant. Walking Gulaga and the 'creation tour' part is beyond words, you must experience it, words can't do it justice. I cannot recommend this tour highly enough. We are a family that travel overseas and do lots of different activities and my 14 year old really loved it, as did my ten and seven year old.
