About
The stunning Cellar Door is still in use as a Cellar Door on occasion and has an incredible sold wooden table that seats 20+ people. This remains in the Cellar Door as it is not light to move! It's a great place to enjoy breakfast, dinner or a glass of wine if the weather does not permit you to be outside. Outside there are great tables that overlook the exceptional view including loads of kangaroos that visit us each day. The high cathedral like ceiling of the cellar door and never ending views of the vines and Gibbergunnyah Reserve that expands forever, makes you feel like there is so much space around you. Luxuriate in the super comfortable king size bed with sheep's wool underlay and 600 thread count linen. There is a kitchen with oven, microwave, fridge so you can enjoy a great cup of tea, espresso or glass of wine on the verandah and watch the kangaroos nearby.Bathroom is newly renovated and comes with Espalma bath towels and toiletries. Be sure to visit us at Grand Bistro.

Had A Fantastic Stay!
Jan 2020
What an amazing an relaxing three days in the country.

What it is:
A beautiful building with amazing craftsmanship.
A kitchen set up for two people with a full sized fridge and chef’s stove
Surrounded by beautiful views, with lots of land to wander
Inhabited by a gentle giant of an Australian wolf hound who is as sweet as he can be
Visited almost every evening by gangs of kangaroos
Set up with one of the most comfortable beds we have ever slept in.
Blackout blinds on all the windows

What is not:
This is NOT the four seasons, it is a lovely working winery/farm
As advertised:
There is no Wifi, but the cell service works fine
There is no a/c but there are fans and good screens on the sliding doors

Approach it with an expectation of a lovely country setting with well decorated interior spaces and amazing views in a rustic setting. You will not be disappointed.

Not worth $1020 for 3 nights!
Dec 2018 • Couples
I had the same experience as the Charlotte L (previous reviewer). 1. There was a dead insect in the freezer. 2. There's a kitchen but it is so not user friendly, with quite a few things missing so that you can actually stay in and cook and eat. 3. There was remnants of vomit on the balcony floor. 4. The whole layout of the place was not how it is in the photo's, so they need to be updated. 5. It was so hot they had 1 fan that didn't even oscillate. 6. Stars were nice. 7. Boots there dog is so friendly, however is quite dirty and smelly. 8. The hum of the highway was annoying. 9. Bed - clean. 10. Spiders webs in the ceiling. There are plenty of other nicer places than this.

Very disappointing experience
May 2018 • Couples
This is such a disappointing experience with our stay in Howards Lane (2nights)
1. The whole place, cellar door, surroundings are so run down, dusty, dirty and not ready.

Dust and dog hairs can be seen in the couch and chairs!
2, There’s no hot water on tap in the bathroom so I need to clean faces etc in the kitchen.
3. The door to the balcony is not working , the other door is actually blocked by the bed!
4. The kitchen is not clean, no cooking utensils provided, most of the plates and equipment are greasy.
5. The old wooden flooring is a kind of classic but it made a lots of noises.
Finally, ITS SO NOISY DURING THE NIGHT near the highway. Just couldn’t sleep! I needed to have sleeping pill the 2nd night.
All the above just don’t worth A280/night! Rip off!

The most important is that this ruin my last two days of trip.

Beautiful and perfect
Sep 2016 • Couples
We absolutely loved our stay here. The cabin was clean and beautifully decorated. The view was lovely. The space has a very cozy and romantic feel, and includes 3 heaters. Kangaroos are grazing nearby in the afternoons. We loved the farm dog Boots, an Irish Wolfhound with a very sweet personality.

What a wonderful place to stay. Beautiful scenery and the most friendly dog you will meet. A great place to unwind and relax. We'll be back.

Amazing wine dinner
Feb 2016 • Couples
Damian truly is the chef to watch for the Southern Highlands. the loveliest wine dinner in a equally lovely setting of Howards lane Cellar door. Great ingredient combinations and the freshest flavors and produce. my advice, don't miss the next dinner they put on.

Half way 'MUST' stop between Sydney and Canberra

We found this place so friendly and so convenient... plus the kids can get a good run at the property before getting back into the car. Amazing hosts, good wine, delicious nibbles. Highly recommend!

Vineyard visit

Lovely vineyard on the edge of Mittagong. I'm told it's the third oldest vineyard in the region. Young couple have recently night it and added really good small meals. Really tasty.

Friendly Owners, Nice Wine and Wonderful Nibbles

This recently-opened Cellar Door won't remain a hidden gem for long!
Located ten minutes from Mittagong, it's set on a picturesque hill just off the highway.
It's a family run winery. Hosts Damien and Justine are extremely welcoming and informative. They have a selection of nice, easy-drinking wines for tasting and purchase at reduced prices (Unwooded Chardonnay, Sav Blanc, Rose and the best pick was probably the Shiraz). The wines are relatively young, but even better were the accompanying snacks. Grilled peach with prosciutto and truffle oil. Yum!
Ideal for an hour's stopover if you're a weekend tourist and there’s also a great mountain bike track across the road for bicycle enthusiasts. Highly recommend visiting at sunset for open air tasting overlooking vineyard with chilled music and curious kangaroos included free of charge!
