Big and Beautiful
May 2021 • Couples
Australia is a bit ‘obsessed’ with big sculptures, some are great, others not so.

The big Kookaburra is gorgeous, a real landmark in the midst of Kurri Kurri. You can’t miss it, stop over, relax in the lovely little park and take some photos. It’s worth it!

Great Park, Lovely Kookaburra
Jul 2020
I wake up to the sounds of the laughing Kookaburras most mornings so have a soft spot for these lovely birds.
I am not usually fond of big things representing communities as they tend to be rather tacky but this sculpture is rather impressive. Made from scrap sheet aluminum and steel. It stands 4.5 metres high and is rather impressive. The rest of the park is also very beautiful with well tended flower gardens, a rotunda, war memorial, and a tribute to the coal workers of the district.
Well worth a visit as there is plenty of parking and even a handy amenities block.

Our continuing obsession with "Big Things"
Jul 2020
This sculpture of a very oversized was apparently a gift to the town of Kurri Kurri to mark the 40th anniversary of the Austral aluminium smelter. As Kurri Kurri appears to be obsessed with kookaburra's it seems appropriate. That said it sits in the park and overlooks the area. The park is a nice place to visit and the kookaburra is worth a visit and a photo.

This was an amusing stop over! Settled in a pleasant sloping park, this bird sits proudly looking over and guarding the town.

Big Bird
Dec 2019 • Couples
Yes it's a big bird.. Does life get any better than this.. I don't think so. If you have nothing better to do in Kurri Kurri ( and you won't) worth a visit

Cute kookaburra to kill time on a road trip, not that exciting but nice to say you've seen and get a picture of.
He's made of aluminium and well kept.

Very impressive.
May 2019 • Couples
At some 5 metres tall this is a very impressive depiction of a kookaburra. Made from old car parts it nevertheless is a great work of art. I suggest you view it from different angles close up and from across the street.
