This was my 2nd attempt at Surfing and I am glad I chose Blackdog Surfing as the team were fantastic, friendly and super patience getting me to a point where I was standing and attempting to surf lol I had a fantastic 2 half day and would recommend Blackdog to any first time surfer.

This review comes half a year late, however! My brother and I took two surf lessons and it was amazing! Dom and Stu are great instructors, so that we were both able to stand on the board at least two times within the first lesson. (Plus, these two guys are probably the coolest ones on this planet, just like you... More

It is a really friendly atmosphere at the shack, the coaches are personable and knowledgable and when you get down to the beach you'll see it's really beautiful as is the entirety of Byron Bay! We went for a 3 hour lesson and came back again the next week, I now feel comfortable enough to rent a board and go... More

I can't say enough good things about my experience with Black Dog Surfing. First, I love dogs, and the dogs were there at the shop to greet us. Second, I've wanted to surf since I was a teenager growing up in a U.S. state nowhere near the ocean, so I was as excited as can be. We had a small... More

I had a 3 hour lesson with Stu who was an awesome teacher. There were only 6 of us in the session which made the whole learning experience a bit easier. I was shocked that I was actually able to stand on my surf board after a few tries. This lesson was great value for money and the professional photos... More

Me and a couple of friends tried surfing for our first time during our trip through the east coast. Byron bay is a great location to learn surfing. Moreover our boards were quite big, so very good to learn. ( we have seen some boards in agnes water and they were much more used and smaller 😂) Everyone of our... More

My lesson with Black Dog was fantastic. Easy to understand instruction and obvious experience and knowledge of how to teach surfing...to absolute beginners. I still can't believe I was standing on a surfboard! Choose this school, they are very well established and have access to the best beach (in Australia) to learn to surf.
