I thoroughly enjoyed Montreal Goldfield, the entire site is run by volunteers who do an amazing job conserving the unique history of one of only two Southern Hemisphere beach side gold finds. Learn about the rectangular shape of the pits, the mystery that gave Mystery Bay its name, methods of mining, the geology that led to gold being deposited and if you are lucky you may get to try dowsing!
Take cash with you to pay the entry which goes toward maintaining the site. It was only $7 when I was there in 2021. If you are in the Bermagui area then it is well worth stopping in.

We were blessed to have the president conduct our tour. He was informative, interesting and fun. Took us back in time to the goldmining era. Funny anecdotes and mysteries. Thank you to your team of volunteers. Highly recommend attending a tour.

Great and entertaining experience - and quite unique. The only gold mine in Australia, where they mined gold on the beach! Knowledgeable and entertaining guide. Also learnt to divine water. The children in the tour group loved it too. An unexpected treat!

Its part of the heritage of the area and worth a visit if you have time. It involves a walking guided tour with a local area guide to provide information and stories about the mines and other history.

The goldfield trust has done a superb job in giving the public access to this historic site.

Our guide Peter was a fount of info in showing us the many shafts and relics of the 1880s gold rush In Bermagui.

There is a centre for viewing the history of the goldfields. You walk through the bushland to see remnants from old goldmines.

Montreal Goldfield is a unique experience being one of only two goldfields in Australia to have Alluvial gold, being gold from the sea!
The history is told by your guide who is an experienced and knowledgable person and who makes a visit to this historical attraction all the more interesting. Run totally by volunteers, one can get a tour every day at 2pm. Learn about the dangers of mining the gold in the 1860's and wonder at the site of the most beautiful tree ferns and trees that have grown on the site over the years.
The old rebuilt stamper machine for crushing the rocks dug from the tunnels is very impressive!
We tried as hard as we could to find a sample of this precious metal but, sadly, we did not find any!
Well worth a visit and most interesting for all ages.

Absolutely awesome. The guide was brilliant. Made it very intersting. Tour takes a bit over 1 hour and is a must do. Great setup with a nice walking track and display centre

First time in the Bermagui area and I became aware of this attraction. I enjoy Australian History, particularly over the 1800s era, and so was intrigued. The site offers a daily one and a half hour Guided Tour from 2pm. Cost $7.50 single and $25 Family. The Tour starts and finishes from a small Information building adjacent to the entrance area/car park. It is conducted by volunteers who obviously have a passion and love for the site and its gold mining history.I thoroughly enjoyed the slow paced informative Tour through a well preserved and maintained old time gold mining area. Our guide was a font of local knowledge regarding not only mine site and operations but also historical information regarding the establishment, supply and characters that made up these type of unique early communities.

What a great experience to be shown around this world heritage listed place. Bob our volunteer guide did a terrific job in showing off the history of the site and area. Overall it was a very enjoyable time. Kids had a great time also. Well worth the $25 family pass.
