My husband is interested in industrial history so he wanted to visit here, we were on our way back from a visit elsewhere and thought we'd pop in. We were glad we did, we also had our children and dogs with us, Dogs are allowed in. This site is an old and still functioning China clay quarry, the kids were... More

We spent two hours here, the exhibits are as you would expect, old, and mostly well maintained. The nature walk was good, with well maintained pathways. The museum part could do with being a little bigger, and more informative. I think that you would struggle with keeping the interest of little ones without a few more working exhibits. The café... We visited here just for the shop this year but the attraction is well worth a visit - much more there than meets the eye. The staff are helpful and friendly. Cafe is good, lots of local food choices. The shop is very good - quite a lot of stock including books on mining and history, pottery and children's items.

Staying with friends and needed something to do while they were working. Lovely walk to here from where i was staying but a little precarious of country lines. I was not disappointed. Loved walking around the site inside and out

Lots of interesting information about the china clay industry in Cornwall and its importance to the local people and the world at large. Learned a lot. It is a working museum which is unusual. It has indoor exhibits as well as outdoor and is in a lovely wooded setting. Good shop. Cafe looked inviting but didn't have time to try... More

This museum tells the story of china clay from its early origins right up to the present day. The brand new visitor centre houses a nice cafe and a gallery giving you all the information you need to understand what you are looking at outside. When you go outside you pass through a yard with lots of static exhibits and... More

Had no idea how important clay mining was and indeed is. More money from this than all other mining in Cornwall I believe. Apparently they have enough clay to keep going for 100's of years yet. Ships leave fowey harbour daily heading all over the world and many trains delivering clay all over the UK. Pretty much most things we... More

We went as part of a coach party and were split into groups. We were then taken around the site. We had an exceptionally good guide, who was clear in his telling of the way the clay was extracted. One walks to the top of a hill and overlooks a modern clay pit, where extraction is leaving a huge hole... More
