Lovely Cafe
Mar 2019 • Couples
We only had time for the cafe so didn't see all of the house but based on what we did see it is well worth a visit. As for the cafe, it was lovely. Very nice decor with several character features. Good range of food and snacks at very reasonable prices. The lady serving us was friendly and knowledgeable about the house and Liskeard. We could see the cafe garden and looks like a great place to go when it is a bit warmer. I believe the house is a registered charity and being part of the history of Liskeard we should visit and support it more.

Fascinating museum and amazing cafe
Jun 2018 • Solo
I was drawn in by the smell of fresh ground coffee wafting into the street in Liskeard and so glad I followed my nose.

Fascinating venture round the museum in the house and then downstairs to the cafe where I enjoyed one of the best lattes I have had in a long time in the STUNNING gardens. I say one of the best lattes - i actually stayed for 2 and then had an equally amazing hot chocolate while i lazily sat in the sunshine away from the hussle and bussle of the main road - that you would have no idea was so close - its like an oasis of calm.

Chatting with the very friendly Victor I discovered that all the staff are volunteers! Which makes this even better as the quality of coffee would leave you thinking they were all well paid catering staff but are actually creating such quality for their love of Stuart House. Truly amazing experience and a must when in Liskeard.

I wrote a previous review about crumbs cafe in Liskeard which I have since discovered is open on evenings now too - so I get to enjoy crumbs for dinner and stuart house for lunch. HAPPY MAN!

Quirky or maybe just bizarre
Sep 2017 • Friends
My friend and I decided to visit the photography exhibition that was being held at Stuart house. None of the pieces were titled, or priced, we didn't know the photographer, or what the piece was of. The space was great, but we were followed around by an over-helpful member of staff (who told us she wasn't actually working today!), who proceeded to show us her favourites.
We then went to the cafe for an early lunch of homemade soup, which was very tasty and would have been perfect if the vegetarian had not been given the wrong (ham) bowl.

History and interest
Jul 2017 • Solo
An historic building which once hosted Charles 1st now owned and cared for by a trust. Always something new to see as there are constantly changing exhibitions and events. Good coffee shop with home made cakes.

Visited for Cornish Mines art exhibition
Sep 2017 • Friends
A charming venue in a delightful town. Visited for a photography and art exhibition of the Cornish mine ruins. House and garden lovely. So interesting you can go into the tunnel that used to lead underground to the street. Staff very friendly and full of interesting facts. Very pretty garden too!

Interesting old house
Sep 2017 • Couples
Charming place with plenty to read about original owners. There was an interesting art exhibition and a room dedicated to a 19th century town architect responsible for the design of numerous buildings in Liskeard, many of which are still standing. There is a cafe and gift shop. The garden was closed due to dust from building works next door. There is no entrance fee.

Visit the house where King Charles stayed

I regularly visit Stuart House to see their varied art, craft and historical exhibitions. They also have a fine cafe with a secluded garden. It's always worth a visit.

A lovely cosy tea room
Feb 2017 • Friends
We went to have a look around this beautiful Centre for the first time today and discovered its super tea room which is run by very friendly volunteers who serve excellent beverages and light snacks including soup sandwiches and tea cakes, attached to the tea rooms is the lovely Hidden Garden where you can sit in peace and quiet just enjoying the surroundings this would be a beautiful place to visit when the plants are in flower and the tea rooms are open all the year round it is so worth a visit if you are in the area.
