Simple Pleasures.

Open for NGS charity when we visited. Rural location, small peaceful natural garden. Lovely wild flower meadow too. Staff were delightful, refreshments were excellent, particularly their own pressed apple juice. Picnic benches with sun umbrella available and you may eat your own food there.

Moth exhibition is stunning
Oct 2020 • Friends
Visited this little exhibition on a cold Autumnal day, we were virtually the only ones there so had the gallery all to ourselves. Sarah Gillespie’s pieces are stunning, the mezzotint prints are so detailed that they look like photographs and the names of the moths are pretty awesome too. Kestle Barton itself is a lovely little place, very peaceful with some lovely buildings. There were no facilities because the cafe was closed but the lady who was looking after the gallery made us a cup of coffee. I’d definitely go back on a nice sunny day.

Another visit this summer. Such an amazing restoration and the gardens are absolutely beautiful but especially in July. Friendly staff.

Nice garden, but empty gallery
Aug 2018 • Family
Not a lot to see here this summer. The gallery just has a wall covered with writing: no artworks, as the main artist is away. Garden is nice enough, but small and not worth going out of your way for. The activity centre offers some interesting stuff, but otherwise you could probably find more fascinating places to visit.

Peaceful and inspiring
Jun 2018 • Couples
The old farm buildings have been stunningly restored and walking through the beautifully designed small garden ,wild flower meadow and orchard was a joy on a hot sunny morning. We were welcomed by the most friendly and helpful woman and had delicious apple juice made from local apples and paid via an honesty box. Amazingly this wonderful place is completely free to visit. Thankyou verymuch.Afterwards we were able to walk down through a woodland and spent an enjoyable afternoon in and around Helford. Yes...narrow lanes to get here but brilliant signage from both the main road and Helford if walking.A tranquil and inspiring place to visit.

Secluded, peaceful and beautiful!

Found Kestle Barton when it popped up on the National Gardens Website so went for a mooch on a gloriously hot day. Small garden but planted with perennials round two circular lawns, walk through to a wild flower meadow and an orchard full of Old Cornish Apple varieties. There is a small vegetable area with raised beds and a greenhouse. The farm buildings are old and gorgeous, lots of granite. The coffee cake and ice cream is help yourself with an honesty box. I walked across the road an followed the circular walk down to Frenchman's Creek and back up to the lane to the farm. Reminded me of when I was a kid so peaceful, tranquil and unspoiled. Well worth tackling the narrow lanes to visit this place.

A hidden gem - perfect for a peaceful
Apr 2018
We stayed in Avellan, a large, converted barn at Kestle Barton, which was perfect for a peaceful, off-the-beaten-tourist-track family holiday. The ancient farmhouse and its surrounding buildings have been beautifully and luxuriously converted to boast all modern facilities, while still retaining their charm. The setting is simply gorgeous, down narrow, winding Cornish lanes with hedgerows bursting with wildflowers, and from here there is an easy, circular walk to take in the Helford Valley, Fisherman's Creek (made famous by Daphne du Maurier in her novel of the same name) and the pretty, sleepy hamlet of Helford with its excellent pub, the Shipwrights Arms. There is a pedestrian ferry across the Helford river to walks along the opposite headland and explore gardens, much of this owned by the National Trust. Proceeds from the holiday accommodation at Kestle Barton support the upkeep of the art gallery initiative, and there is a lovely informal garden and wildflower meadow which are open to the public and provide a perfect spot to enjoy a coffee and cake or an ice cream. We would definitely love to return here.
