Set majestically on the banks of the River Thames, The Mill at Sonning...

Set majestically on the banks of the River Thames, The Mill at Sonning promises a unique experience not to be missed where your visit includes both dinner and a show all under one roof in a beautiful converted water mill.

Start your visit with a drink (or two...) in the Water Wheel Bar or, if you visit us in the summer, take a sunny seat outside on the Mill Stream Terrace. From the bar you will make your way upstairs to our restaurant, with views out over the mill stream, where you will find your tickets and programme waiting on your table. The main course is served in buffet style but our friendly staff will be on hand to take your drinks and dessert orders. After enjoying our mouth-watering menu, prepared daily in our kitchens using only the best locally sourced ingredients, you can make your way into the main event of your visit - the theatre!

The Mill Theatre itself is an intimate venue, seating just over 200 people, air conditioned with spacious and comfy seats that won't leave you longing for legroom or calling for a cushion. During the year we produce a wide variety of plays in the theatre, ranging from comedies to thrillers, as well as hosting regular music and comedy nights that will have you dancing and rolling in the aisles.

Whatever your tastes, in both theatre and food, you will be sure to find something to whet your appetite here at The Mill.

Loved my experience at the mill, the downstairs bar is great with the old wheel still running. The service and waiters were very polite and helpful. The food was great and the play was a laugh! Will definitely come again!

Having grown up in Sonning (many years ago) it surprised me to realise that I'd never seen a play at what was a working flour mill when I was a child. The omission was rectified by a fine performance of Blithe Spirit and a good though not spectacular dinner before the performance recently. The whole evening is very good value... More

The ambiance at the mill is lovely. A beautiful location with the working mill visible from the bar. Pleasant friendly staff and a really fantastic set for a great production of Blythe Spirit. The real let down was the dreadful food. Like school dinners. Soggy roasted veg, a huge hunk of uncooked brockerly, and a steak pie with grisly stewing... More

I was treated to a birthday lunch here by my daughter. There is a lovely outside patio overlooking part of the river. Very relaxing. Food was beautifully prepared and delicious. Lovely old watermill inside. I haven't been to the dinner theatre for ages. The theatre is intimate and the restaurant is just outside this. During the interval you can come... More

We saw Blithe Spirite, not for the first time, and it was a very good production. All the actors were stars and did a great job but I have to say that Finty Williams as Elvira was really good. As always the meal ran like clockwork and the waiting staff were very good, attentive and prompt. This Play with a... More

This was my second visit to this brilliant venue at Sonning. I am also going on October 28th to see Blithe spirit. Your evening begins with a delicious home cooked supper in a dining room where you have your own table per group. The food is always nice it's usually Salmon and some sort of a beef pie and a... Went here one night many years ago with family. Very nice meal and a lively funny play. Was a nice drive from home and a pleasure to see this old building being put to good use

the old mill, built on the island in the middle of the river Thames and connected to the banks by two separate bridges (one very old and atmospheric) was turned years ago into a theatre where you have dinner during the interval. A lovely experience in a beautiful setting!

Included in the ticket price is a two course dinner. The main course is served buffet style and takes a while to get everyone through the single island buffet station. We had the steak pie and salmon au gratin. For mass catering on a small budget it was actually pretty good - Galvin le Bistro Deluxe it is not more... More

The Hollow Door was an excellent production. The food has improved since we last visited the Mill and it is possible to help yourself to a buffet of fish, vegetables and meat. The production was excellent. We shared a dessert and cheese and biscuits which was fun.
