Set majestically on the banks of the River Thames, The Mill at Sonning...

Set majestically on the banks of the River Thames, The Mill at Sonning promises a unique experience not to be missed where your visit includes both dinner and a show all under one roof in a beautiful converted water mill.

Start your visit with a drink (or two...) in the Water Wheel Bar or, if you visit us in the summer, take a sunny seat outside on the Mill Stream Terrace. From the bar you will make your way upstairs to our restaurant, with views out over the mill stream, where you will find your tickets and programme waiting on your table. The main course is served in buffet style but our friendly staff will be on hand to take your drinks and dessert orders. After enjoying our mouth-watering menu, prepared daily in our kitchens using only the best locally sourced ingredients, you can make your way into the main event of your visit - the theatre!

The Mill Theatre itself is an intimate venue, seating just over 200 people, air conditioned with spacious and comfy seats that won't leave you longing for legroom or calling for a cushion. During the year we produce a wide variety of plays in the theatre, ranging from comedies to thrillers, as well as hosting regular music and comedy nights that will have you dancing and rolling in the aisles.

Whatever your tastes, in both theatre and food, you will be sure to find something to whet your appetite here at The Mill.

The mill is lovely. Location is delightful. Pleasant friendly staff and a really fantastic set for a very professional presentation of High Society. The real let down is the awful food, most of which we found inedible. Dried out lumps of turkey stuffed with pure dried sage (trying to eat it made my wife gag), cold soggy roast potatoes, raw... Lucky enough to go to the opening night of this new production of High Society. As usual we enjoyed a pre show dinner with a hint of Xmas thrown in, courtesy of decorations and mince pies. We were entertained by a cast of talented actors/ singers. We were also in hysterics at times with the antics of Uncle Willie. If... More

The Mill have really upped there game, the food was very good, lots of options and lots of veggies. It was lively and warm in the restaurant. Followed by a play that you would not be out of place in the West end

Our third visit to this venue. Excellent 'Motown music' show this evening (13/11/16), with great performers and comfortable seating. However, we have to take issue with a few aspects of the evening: (i) Insufficient bar staff to deal with the influx of customers who all arrive at around the same time due to meal and performance times, (ii) We have... We visited the Watermill at Sonning for the first time to see Blithe Spirit and gradually came to feel that we were in the play, mesmorising! All seats are good as the theatre is small and very intimate. We'll definitely be back. The dinner before the show was excellent and the evening was thoroughly enjoyed.

The new sign outside promised artesian coffee and homemade cakes, which in such a nice location is hard to resist. Unfortunately, the coffee was terrible - maybe it was artesian but it was too burnt to tell. There was cake, a rather tired looking victoria sponge and a couple of cup cakes, but neither looked inviting and so we didn't... More

Loved my experience at the mill, the downstairs bar is great with the old wheel still running. The service and waiters were very polite and helpful. The food was great and the play was a laugh! Will definitely come again!

Having grown up in Sonning (many years ago) it surprised me to realise that I'd never seen a play at what was a working flour mill when I was a child. The omission was rectified by a fine performance of Blithe Spirit and a good though not spectacular dinner before the performance recently. The whole evening is very good value... More

The ambiance at the mill is lovely. A beautiful location with the working mill visible from the bar. Pleasant friendly staff and a really fantastic set for a great production of Blythe Spirit. The real let down was the dreadful food. Like school dinners. Soggy roasted veg, a huge hunk of uncooked brockerly, and a steak pie with grisly stewing... More
