Interesting and interactive exhibition of the history and people of Barnsley. Free for both the museum and Slazenger exhibition. Lovage on site too. An enjoyable couple of hours. If the weather is right a nice place to sit and admire the building and gardens with water feature.

Runa through the history of Barnsley, our herritage, our football club, famous people. There is always and excellent exhibition taking place, not always relating to Barnsley.
There is loads to do for the kids! My daugher loves it.
And its free! They just ask for a donation.
This really is something for Barnsley to be proud of and I would recommend to any visitor.

Never been in here before but pleased we did. It’s located within the town hall so the building itself is interesting. There’s plenty of exhibits and some interactive screens too. It’s laid out very well. There’s also the Slazenger exhibit along the corridor. There’s a small on-site gift shop. Free admission. What’s there not to like about that!

Very good free museum, shop and cafe celebrating the history of the town. The museum has hands on activities for adults and kids and covers local history, sport, the arts and celebrities. There is also a room which holds temporary exhibitions which so far has included women's role during the miners strike and Barnsley football club. These temporary exhibits are not as good as the main exhibition due mainly to the restriction of the size of the room, on both occasions I have been left wanting a little bit more.
The town has been crying out for more things like this having been left behind in recent years. Definitely worthy of a visit especially if in town with an hour or toe to kill

Not the largest of museums but with plenty of scope for expansion. The museum has some excellent exhibits of Barnsley history from its coal mining and glas making industries and much more. Some interesting memorabilia about Barnsley FC, worh a visit for that alone.
The displays are well set out and easy to follow and to add to the visual effect there re some interesting videos.
Well done to Barnsley Council for the vision to set this up.
Don't miss the small art gallery attached and the top rate cafe.

I was very very impressed about the amount of research that went into the canister company exhibition and the exhibits. It is a shame that such a wonderful company had to disappear. I recommend this exhibition to anyone who wants to come.

If you're interested in pits it's ok but their display and "local people" exhbits are mostly wrong .A lot of the people mentioned are NOT locals

Everybody should come and spend a couple of hours here. Barnsley has a lot of history that might otherwise be overlooked. It's very interesting and there are a lot of Activities for the children to become invOlved in. It is housed in a beautiful building and what's best is that it's free to go in!

Went with some family visitors and was pleasantly surprised. It's small but with plenty of exhibits and interactive stuff for the kids. Made me very proud to be from Barnsley - well done!
