Booked tickets for the Shepherdess Tour which was an excellent show. Amanda spoke from the heart and had the whole audience captured throughout. Beautiful photos on the big screen behind her. Great show
The Theatre itself is well maintained and very clean.
On arrival I was asked to open my bag for a security check outside by a man in a dinner suit with a torch. Now I have absolutely no issue with this and I welcome any security check necessary to keep people safe. What I don’t understand is why you do and and don’t do it properly. The torch was shone on the bag and not at any stage did he drop eye contact with me he just said ok go in. Pointless
Inside I went downstairs to the bar area which was an awful experience. People just rammed into a tiny space along a narrow corridor. Bar staff were so slow. It took 24 minutes to buy 2 bottles of water. Absolutely no consideration for social distancing. People complaining to each other and then getting mad with others being stood too close.
The seats are fairly uncomfortable and no leg room whatsoever.
The 2 ladies checking tickets were too busy grumbling to each other and then sent us the wrong way to our seats.
It’s a good job the show was excellent or the night out would have been ruined.

We loved the performance of Dick Whittington today. The cast were talented and engaging. The lady who played Alice had an amazing voice! We really giggled at all the daft jokes and the sets and costumes were fabulous. My little girl is nearly 5 and due to the pandemic, this is the first show she has ever seen in a theatre. When the show finished, she said three times, ‘Mummy, I didn’t want it to end.’

The theatre is always a visual pleasure too - such striking and grand interior design. One of our local gems.

Great evening here watching live comedy after the long dark lockdown. This is a beautiful deco building, and the volunteer staff are very friendly and helpful. It is worth a visit just to see the wonderful interior.

Had afternoon tea here with my sister. Right from stepping through the doors the staff were so helpful. The ladies on the main door helped us open doors and into the lift
My sister uses a wheelchair and carries oxygen so it was a great help.
The staff in the Plaza Cafe were lovely and nothing was too much trouble. Jim helped us a lot. The Afternoon Tea was very nice all very fresh and a nice variety. Will definitely be back

Well maintained olde worlde theatre so don't expect the comfiest seats or any holders for your drinks!

The start time for a mid week show was 6.30pm and a 7pm start would have made life a bit easier for those attending after work, especially as the show only lasted 65 mins (with no interval). In the event the volume of latecomers delayed the start by around 10 minutes.

On arrival at the venue our printed e-tickets we checked on the pavement and once in the foyer again by another person with a scanner. She was rather frosty and grumbled that the tickets could not easily read as they had been folded and that she wasn't allowed to touch the tickets to straighten them (yet the person outside who checked them was happy to take them off us to check!)

Having got inside we then asked where to get drinks etc and were ushered out again into the foyer where there was a huge queue for the tiny kiosk going back out into the street!

So either get here very early or bring your own drinks/snacks!

Post re-opening of theatres we have attended a few performances with no intervals. Whilst 65 mins should be ok for adults with 50% of those present on this occasion being youngsters, there was a constant flow of people leaving seats to go to the toilets after about 30 mins so it was stand up/sit down almost constantly for the latter part of the show. I hope they re-instate intervals sooner rather than later.

In summary, the place is still impressive to visit but it comes across as being run with too much reliance on volunteers whose frosty attitude with guests is not the best experience.

Also, start times could be changed to help those who have been out at work and for the comfort of the audience an interval should be re-instated to all future productions.

As regards drinks etc, it would be good if they could be sold inside the auditorium like the old fashioned ice cream ladies, if their foyer kiosk cannot cope with larger audience.

The plaza is ok for elderly people. The foods a little overpriced and the service is slow. The menu is limited. No atmosphere maybe a little background music would help.

Went to see a film (Northern Soul) and it was a wonderful experience as it was a reminder of cinemas from the 1970s, with interludes where you could buy refreshments. The building itself is beautiful.

My daughter performs here annually with her dance school, it is an amazing facility and we look forward to it. On the back of this we have booked the Christmas panto held here which doesn’t disappoint. The theatre is very well maintained with a real Art Deco feel. There are 2 bars to choose from at the interval with very helpful and friendly staff. This place is a real gem stone and Stockport is very fortunate to have this at the heart of its community.

Almost perfect evening in this theatre which is full of decorative nostalgia from the 20/30’s. Tickets ordered on the phone and posted out, no issues. Box office helpful with advice on parking, arrival time and bar openings. As things panned out we were lucky enough to park on the road outside the theatre for a charge. The show started at 7.30pm and we were allowed entry at 6.45pm. We waited in the bar / lounge. Drinks were a tad expensive. The staff, who are volunteers, were excellent in every way possible. I was advised that afternoon high tea is to be recommended and such is its popularity booking is required.

Went for the first time last night to see Mike Sweeney, who at 73 years of age together with his band brought the house down with most of the audience dancing round the seats and in the aisles... never expected it to be as good as it was!
The older staff were first class with the utmost curtesy and professionalism, all theatres should take note and use staff like these ladies and gentlemen they are a credit to the place ❤️
The Theatre itself is stunning with a homely feel.
Cannot wait to return.
