Located in the very heart of Oldham, the Coliseum Theatre is venerable building with a history stretching back to 1885.We serve a vibrant cross section of the community with an award winning selection of comedy, drama & traditional panto.

The history of Oldham Coliseum Theatre spans a period of 128 years making it one of the oldest theatres in Britain still operating today. The theatre is also widely considered as the true home of traditional pantomime and produces a new production each year attracting delighted audiences of over 35,000.

The Coliseum Theatre dates back to 1885 when it began life as the Grand American Circus and Hippodrome. Situated in the heart of Oldham and surrounded by almost a dozen other theatres, almost 125 years later, the award winning Coliseum is the only surviving theatre in the town.

The Coliseum stage has seen countless performers over the years from comedy greats Charlie Chaplin and Stan Laurel to fledgling movie stars such as Ralph Fiennes and Minnie Driver. Many of the stars of Manchester staple Coronation Street have also cut their teeth treading the boards at the Coliseum.

Oldham Coliseum Theatre is one of the most established and well attended venues in the North West where it produces eight in-house shows each year. It is also operates as a receiving house for touring productions, visiting companies and special one-night events.

The Coliseum as we know it today has recently undergone a £1.5M facelift and renovation with improved seating, heating and front of house facilities bringing the venue up-to-date with modern theatre-goers' demands.

The auditorium has a capacity of 524 seats, in addition the theatre has a studio space with a more intimate capacity of 50 seats. The inhouse and touring productions seen on the main stage each year offer a balanced programme of drama, comedy, musical, new writing and the annual pantomime.

I used to come here when I was a child with brownies for the annual panto. I'm now 43 and bring my children every year. My daughters birthday is on 29th December & a quick call to the venue beforehand & she gets a 'happy birthday' shout out from the cast. One year she even got to go on stage... More

Thanks so much Stef8312000 for your feedback. Really glad you've enjoyed coming to the theatre here in Oldham. It's more of a quiet time in the theatre over August as we get the theatre ready for the autumn season but September is just round the corner. I hope you're coming to see Brassed Off in September. This features local brass... More

I have visited Oldham Coliseum on many occasions....the staff are very helpful and friendly. The bar is small and atmospheric, the Theatre itself is wonderful and inviting as you step back in time to an era of gaiety and good times ...I highly recommend this venue

They provide a very varied programme of plays etc. during the season and there are facilities to have a drink or something to eat in the theatre. Also there is a large car park in close proximity. The prices are very reasonable especially if you buy a season ticket. It is also a good place to see new talent and... More

We visit every year for the panto, the cheeky adult humour is brilliant, the one liners and references to places around Oldham thrown in makes it more personal. Brilliantly written and performed by such talented actors.

Thanks so much for that feedback on our panto. This year it's Sleeping Beauty and we're very excited, we're getting in the Christmas spirit already. This is probably classed as a local small theatre but don't be deceived. It is a wonderful place. What do you want? First - somewhere to park and minutes away a huge car park. There are a couple of decent restaurants nearby if you want to eat before or after the show. Then the people at the theatre, they are... More
