About
Located in Bury, just 30 minutes from Manchester City Centre, is the award-winning East Lancashire Railway. A heritage railway that runs steam and diesel train services through the beautiful Pennine Lancashire scenery. There are plenty of things to see and do and stations are well equipped for group visits with cafes, pubs, gift shops and a dedicated Transport Museum, housing vintage vehicles, transport memorabilia and interactive exhibits. Guided tours and talks are also available. The railway also has some fantastic events scheduled throughout the year from guided Rail Ale Trail tours of some of the excellent local drinking spots to the nostalgia of their award winning 1940's weekend. Looking for something a little different? Why not indulge in a luxury steam train hauled dining experience on board Orient Express style carriages, learn to drive a train or get snap happy with a Photography Course?

Y’know what, Ive had a month to think about it and its still eating away at me and Im definitely not one for writing bad reviews on trip advisor but no matter how much effort was put into decking the platform out, the wonderful brass band and the nice guys dressed as elves, it didn’t alter the fact that father christmas was a miserable miserable man. ‘Hey Kids, heres your present!! Now f’!@k off’ was the impression i got. Following the initial meet and greet, Misery Claus did once again walk past our seat jingling his bells and my kids we’re shouting Santa! Santa! Wanting him to turn round and maybe say have a lovely christmas children but he completely ignored them!! At that moment i thought never again. Sack that miserable c&nt for a nice genuine kind old man. Real let down

I took my 5-year old daughter on the train from Bury to Ramsbottom. Unfortunately the weather was terrible so we didn't stay long and quickly returned to the train station. Seeing our bedraggled state, the station mistress (Chandra) was very kind, she showed us to the heated waiting room, she made me a cuppa and gave us a free mince pie and chocolate coins. She ensured that our trip wasn't a complete washout!

New Years Eve decided to visit the bar trackside on Bury station, barmaid had a really bad attitude, totally unprofessional when we had to take a drink back as it was dreadful! Was only asking if that’s how it should taste and quite prepared to purchase another! In fact two as both we really nasty tasting ! while serving another customer this particular barmaid shouted over with a sneer that’s what you ordered! I notWas complaining about what we ordered just that something seemed off with the drink! One drink cost the price of three!
I’ve been in customer service and usually you ask what the problem is and deal with it, not get on your high horse with bad attitude shouting and shaking your head in front of other customers to make herself righteous! Maybe retraining is in order.

Just been on the Santa train after we missed last year. This is the 5th time we have done this at Christmas.
From the station entry, through to the platforms, the experience is magical for all and a lovely wholesome family trip.
Thank you everyone for making it as special as you do.
Wonderful ❤️

Just brilliant! So much effort had gone into making it so exciting and special not just for kids but adults too with lights and Christmas trees everywhere, stables, brass bands, goodie bags, presents, and staff dressed up as seasonal characters. On the train everyone is so friendly and helpful, and obviously Father Christmas but also a magician, elf, activity packs for the kids. Cannot praise it enough, the best thing I've done with the kids in their first 6 years 😀

I have to agree with other negative comments we went today. I was expecting entertainment on the train from all the elves dancing singing loads or interaction. It was the opposite. One elf showed a trick 5 minute in and we never so him the rest of the journey. Another elf had us chanting reindeers names once. The Santa was ok and we did get a picture but it was a massive rush. We was the same 2 adults and very bored 3 year old. It wasn’t what we expect at all … I expect lots more Christmas fun singing and dancing etc with the elves! Not worth the money xx

Shocking waste of money sat on the train five minutes Santa came give the present and that was it for the whole train ride. The elf stated are you ready for singing and some fun and then never seen again a disgrace children where bored will never pay for this again waste of money. Not like it used to be shocking

Christmas spirit had gone from the santa express! This will be our last trip . As a family we have visited for the last 10 yrs this year there was nothing too commercialised and the air that a profit is priority opposed to the past ethos. The children enjoyed the bus journey more.

Gifts were appalling the recieved a water bottle and the youngest received stones that you hammered Pearl's out however, the pearls were made up they were unusable. I appreciate Covid restrictions limit but not even the workers enjoyed it a smile does not cost anything this is not the santa express I remember. Unfortunately this will be our last trip. I have always been loyal and feel that I contribute to a heritage but after this trip it's time to expire alternative.

Please improve children need something to look forward to and if the staff are flat with enthusiasm this spoils it for the children that have experienced lock down.

Hi suzannekT5772VJ Firstly thank you for supporting us for the past 10 years its greatly appreciated. It was disappointing to read that you wont be joining us in the future but would like to thank you for the feedback. We are sorry that this year didn't live up to your personal expectations. Your feedback is important to us and allows us to reflect in areas where we may not have got it quite right and look at making changes for future events.
