The Abbey Golf Course, Redditch: Tickets, Tours, Address, Phone Number, The Abbey Golf Course Reviews: 4/5

The Abbey Golf Course
Built in the late 1970's the Abbey golf course has now matured into a fine, championship standard parkland course measuring over 6,500 yards. Designed by Donald Steel, one of Britain's leading course architects the course has been extensively upgraded and lengthened in recent years. The course regularly hosts county matches and high profile corporate days. The layout includes matured trees, lakes and on the whole the fairways are wide with the rough not too punishing, the picturesque 7th is a 192 yard drive from the medal tee with the green surrounded on three sides by the river arrow. The 13th is a challenging uphill par 4 drive between two mature oak trees at 250 yards with the green concealed out of sight at the top of the hill.We offer Par 72 18 hole course, driving range, putting green, buggy hire, teaching and coaching support.

From bar area you can easily go to golf court there is a small lake and tables outside there you can have a rest or have a drink , also you can play golf it's massive area for it.
We tryed spa is well , sauna was arround 60c inside and steam room was okay i liked , their have swimming pool and jacuzzi.
With kids its entrance from 16pm.
Their have gym so if you want it to do cardio or lift weights would be no issues go for training session.
Would highly recommend this hotel to my family visit again and my business friends as i also notice their have conference rooms.

Just returned from a 2 night golf break with friends. We cant recommend this place enough. Room was lovely with big comfortable bed. Golf shop was very friendly and accommodating, course was challenging and in great condition. The food was outstanding and the restaurant staff were amazing, Lilly, Georgia and Charlotte D deserve a special mention. Full of wit and banter, always a friendly smile whilst maintaining total professionalism, a credit to the organisation. We very much look forward to returning again.

Golf break and meeting with friends and family after lockdown
Aug 2021 • Friends
Went for a 2 night 3 day golf break. Course was so much more challenging than it looked and had to get think every hole, enjoyed it immensely. Spa a bit dated and needs more loungers but therapists good.
Special mention has to go to Charlotte D who looked after us in the restaurant on both evenings going over and above on both evenings to make sure our party of 8 had a great stay …… and we did.

Could do better, but not unpleasant.

We went as two couples on the two hottest days of this year so far! We all decided on sandwiches from the bar for our pre-golf lunch and they were a good size, all served with a decent portion of chips and salad. Drinks prices weren't too bad, no more than any other place like this: however the bar staff (they may have been new) need some training. One didn't know what 'slimline' was and later in the evening one didn't know what an 'Appletise or similar' was, asking if it was alcoholic or if I meant J2O.
The restaurant is very noisy, even with all the windows and doors open; it got noisier as the evening progressed as more large groups of male golfers came in. I don't know if it was the acoustics of the place or if the groups were particularly noisy, but we were glad to get out of there.
There was a good variety on the menu, but it was disappointing to see that supplements applied to all except one of the starters, and 4 out of 6 main courses - these ranged from £2 to about £5 (unless you wanted the day's special, a chateaubriand at £50 extra). My friend asked for his steak rare and was very pleased when it came out still mooing!! My feathered blade of beef was OK - nothing special; it came with a medium sized portion of mash, three whole chantenay carrots, one very small floret of broccoli and one very small floret of cauliflower. There was nowhere near enough sauce. I was going to ask for more sauce but after the debacle with the wine ordering (see below) I knew it would arrive far too late.
I have never seen an Eton Mess consisting of very solid raspberry ice cream, vanilla ice cream and a few small pieces of meringue - no cream in sight.

Ah - the wine ordering....... I ordered two different bottles of white wine and had to point out on the menu to the waitress which ones they were and had to spell them out. 15 minutes later, as our starters arrived, I asked when our wine would be arriving. With an apology, the waitress (different to the one who took the order) went away. 10 minutes later I summoned another waitress to ask where our wine was and she rather abruptly said "well you didn't order it from me", but off she went. 5 minutes later another waitress came over and apologised that she had 'missed the check' and just in time for our main courses our bottles arrived.
While we were eating our desserts, a waitress came over and asked us to pay for the wines and presented me with a till receipt for 2 bottles of Bud and some other beers; I pointed out that there weren't any beer glasses on our table and off she went, coming back a few minutes later with another receipt for some wine, but not ours and some Guinness!! By this time the noise was unbearable and the heat was stifling so we went outside, expecting to pay when we checked out in the morning.
Our room was pleasant enough for a night's stay; it was clean and tidy although the sloping roof could have caused problems getting out of bed. We had booked a double but this was a twin, but due to finishing golf late we had very little time to get ready for dinner so we let it go. No aircon, but thankfully there was a large fan in the room, because only one window could be opened.
Breakfast the following morning was buffet style - the fried eggs were like bullets and the sausages pretty tasteless, but it sufficed and there was plenty of it.
Check out the next morning did indeed include our wine, as well as the other couple's who were with us!
Despite these minor problems, I can understand the issues with Covid and it may well have been that some staff were new to the job - despite the minor problems they were all very polite and professional.

Good stay, good customer service.

We checked into our double room to find the shower wasn’t clean. We rang reception and we’re immediately moved to a much nicer room with a complimentary bottle of wine. Good customer service.
The evening meals were very good. Same menu both nights but with specials. Enough choice.
Breakfast was ok. The staff are very attentive. The food was typical English breakfast little or no choice if you were a vegetarian or vegan.
The golf course was slow due to several groups and a competition but the starter was really helpful and offered tips on how to manage the course. We enjoyed our round and as we queued on most tee boxes we met our fellow golfers which was nice.
We didn’t use the pool as you needed to book and it was full.
I was concerned about the lack of people using masks and hand gel. When you check in for a meal it would be a good idea if those staff asked people to use the hand gel. I counted 15 people entering the dining room and none used the gel. We went to the bar, no one was wearing a mask, even when they went to the bar, we left. The quieter downstairs bar was much better.
We don’t normally holiday in the uk so it was a different experience for us.
We would go again but not at a week end.

Golf trip
Jul 2020 • Friends
Just spent 2 days on one of our
golf weekend breaks. We were due to stay elsewhere but due to, no not Covid, but the hasterly arranged European Tour Revamp, we were offered this package as an alternative. There was a little trepidation because it was quite a bit cheaper and none of us had heard of the venue before. Well we needn't of worried because it was very enjoyable. Hotel allocated us all are own rooms, we were originally sharing twin rooms. All staff in and around the Hotel were very friendly and accommodating. Only Negative was the Golf Shop, well it was a serving hatch for soft drinks and chocolate really with a guy who wasn't really interested. But back to the golf, course was in good shape and really enjoyable. All in all it turned out to be a very enjoyable couple of days.

We stayed just after the hotel reopened after lockdown. All staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. Room was tidy and spacious.

Lots of extras were missing due to Covid-19 but we just had to ask and the staff provided it.

Food was great. A restricted menu, again due to circumstances but our children could eat from it with no problems which was good.

We had an issue booking time in the pool but again, the staff were fantastic and sorted it out, which made our break as the children had been looking forward to a dip in the pool.

Golf shop, also great. Friendly and helpful.

We will definitely be back. Covid-19 created a different hotel experience but the team at the Abbey rose to the occasion and we had a super time.

Cannot fault anything.
